OMG I MISS CHRIS YOUNG!!! *rolls eyes* Javy is a beast of a SP, that is all. Jason Bourgeois, who deserves a promotion WAY more than Sweeney does right now, says hi.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) Hes below the mendoza line yet still has a OBP higher than PODS and Owens Tonight's home run actually got him to the mendoza line at 11 for 55 and an even .200, with a .323 on base and hey the slugging and OPS are up to .418 and .741. Plus, not only are his walks impressive, his ratio is too with more walks (10) than strikeouts (9). And now he's starting to show some of his power too, which is a big plus.

Garrett Anderson is 4-5 tonight with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 10 RBI's at the end of just the 6th inning. If they can get at least 2 people on and avoid the double play, he'll bat again (Angels will only bat 8 times since they lead big) and he can go for some more ribbies. Wow, and the Angels lead 18-5, they don't score 18 in a week sometimes.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) Still, even with our setup, which is 3 sets, 4 lines, 2 Tivo's and the Sportspack it's only like $5-$10 more than we were paying for our old basic cable with no DVR (don't remember the exact total), and the quality is better too. Plus they often run deals where you can get something free, whether it's installation, the dish, a Tivo, or whatever... Same situation at my house. The idea that cable saves so much money in any form over DirecTV is a cute myth, but a myth indeed. And plus you can the option of all the sports packages with the dish and get ESPNU, NFL Network, Big Ten Network, etc. Not to mention, the "bad weather messing up the dish" thing is greatly overhyped. Our dish doesn't get interference from bad weather often at all, and when it does, it's only for 5 or 10 minutes during the worst of a bad storm. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) Santana or Escobar are my horses right now. I'm rooting for Johan, though. Johan has no shot IMO. The numbers are quite even between him and a few guys, and they will have bias against just picking Johan again as you've see in MVP and Cy Young races in the past (when Johan HAS won, he didn't have people with comparable numbers to him like he does this year). Plus, he can't make a surge for himself by pitching his team into the playoffs. Bedard IMO is the favorite since he's going to finish with over 250 strikeouts and a high 2.something ERA, but Haren has a pretty good shot too and Escobar is helped by the team he's on being the only of the 4 with a shot at the playoffs where he can boost his case. Plus, keep in mind the numbers 14-4, 13-4 and 14-7 (Escobar is going to win tonight). People look at those way too often as a true stat, and comparing those three to Johan's 13-9 won't help him.

As of right now, Johan Santana's bid for another Cy Young is in jeopardy. We already know the media loves an excuse to vote for a new guy, and they have it. Obviously you have Beckett and Lackey with 15 wins, Fausto Carmona, but to me, we have a 4 horesmen style race if you look at it numerically: Kelvin Escobar: 13-6 (3 CG), 2.68 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, .236 BAA, 158 IP, 124 k, 50 walks, 137 hits Johan Santana: 13-9, 2.88 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, .214 BAA, 175 IP, 191 k, 39 walks, 138 hits Dan Haren: 14-4, 2.66 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, .227 BAA, 179.1 IP, 147 k, 46 walks, 155 hits Erik Bedard: 13-4, 2.97 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, .210 BAA, 176 IP, 218 k, 52 walks, 135 hits That list is gaudy enough for an AL going against DH laden lineups crop, but looking at the numbers of guys like Beckett, Lackey, and Carmona.....they aren't far behind. Most quality AL Cy Young race depthwise I can remember, my vote goes to Erik Bedard if your asking for it as of now, but still a ways to go.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 08:47 AM) AL-NL conversions are overstated. For hitters yes, but for pitchers, ESPECIALLY going from the AL to the NL, they are not at all. Ted Lilly and Aaron Harang say hi.

It really can't be about race when ALL OF HIS OWN BLACK FRIENDS pleaed out first to testify against him. If the ignorant want to call it "snitching" in the black community, that's their problem, but to say it's race at all is just there is no support to it. And remember when the Chargers traded Vick for Tomlinson, Brees, and Tim Dwight on draft day? It was already a bad deal for Atlanta, now it's a disaster. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) f***...this is horrid for Iowa. We are supposed to have good guys and not have this type of problems. To be honest, my post probably came across the wrong way. I just hate when everybody says how great and clean a program Iowa has, when in reality, it's not. It's nothing against Ferentz or Iowa, because their program is no worse than everybody else, but it's no better either. BTW, rumor has it more guys might be in trouble and such info may be coming out soon. We'll see, but photos like the ones in this thread aren't exactly good to see from Iowa's point of view: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=8&F=137...76&t=865239 I'm not sure who James Cleveland is, but I'd assume he's one of the guys the rumors I've heard involve. EDIT: He's a RS Freshman WR from Drew Tate's homeland of Baytown, Texas. Looks like these Iowa WR's stick together, eh? They might have all walk on's at WR September 1st at this rate. -

Those silly little boys from the IC at it again!! http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs...0039/1003/RSS02 Three guys in 1 day, that's impressive for DA U, let alone Iowa. But hey, Ferentz is a great coach with total control of his program. He's nothing like the other big time guys in college football that let the inmates run the asylum. -
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) when Owens is 45 then? Get Victor Conte on the phone.

It's starting to look like the best way for us to have a chance to be good soon like KW wants is get some offense for our starting pitching and payroll flexibility, and if you can trade Garland to achieve part 1 and Contreras to acheive part 2, I'm all for it. The problem is Egbert and Gio are unknowns, but it might be worth the risk when you consider how much money it saves us and how good Gio and Eggy look, also keeping in mind that perhaps we could sign a CF this offseason with that freed up money in this senario, filling yet another hole.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) ... I was joking about the 'roids ... * cough cough Gary Matthews Jr. was defense and no hitting for long time too. So there is hope for Jerry Owens too ... when he is 40. Owens is a way better baserunner than Joey is, but has not nearly the bat control and ability, so I wouldn't count on it.

QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) Actually, Farmer and Singleton mentioned how Jenks's fastball and curveball were up, something that doesn't happen with normal work. He left 2 curveballs up to Gathright, which he almost NEVER does when he's that far ahead in the count (SEE: batters with 0-2 and 1-2 counts against him's numbers) but he did this time and Gathright was just underneath it both times. As a result, he was afraid to throw another hook and Gathright's short quick swing got him on the fastball, which he had adjusted to after seeing a few of those too.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) WOw, that surprises me. 'Roids??? .363 in 124 at bats is actually almost respectable. But he is a career .260 hitter. Well .375 in 128 at bats now, and not roids, he's just figured out how to beat all the drawn in infields he sees because of his speed now, plus he can bunt. And he's a career .270 hitter btw.
-
Jenks had retired 41 in a row, and then got Gathright 0-2, and Jenks had held hitters to 0-30 with 0 walks and 18 k's this year when they reached an 0-2 count in an at bat. What a bad time to end both of those streaks.
-
QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) Perhaps if Jenks didn't have 8 days off, he would have been sharper tonight and kept the streak going. Nope, he had a hitter 0-2 and threw him 2 crappy breaking balls, that's what got him. On another note, hitters had been 0-30 with 18 k's and 0 walks against Bobby when the count went 0-2 this year, so that's another streak that ended tonight.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 10:02 PM) Gathwright only seems to manage to non-suck at hitting against the White Sox. What a poser! Except Gathright is hitting .375 this year, but hey don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

Yeah, underage drinking in general isn't exactly anything to write home about, as long as he wasn't driving. 99 percent of college kids do this, just so happened he got caught. Claussen is a dummie though, you never go WITH the person buying the alcohol for you, duh. -

QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Vick is pretty freaking big, not sure who is going to hold him down...It's not like he's going to a maximum security place where the guys that could take him would be. He's like 6 foot, 200 pounds, which is my size with 15 pounds of extra muscle on him. That's far from huge, especially when you consider some of the big, mean dudes in jail. Combine that with Vick being Vick, and he's going to have a long and painful stay in the slammer. -
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp Can't wait to see John in W-S and Salvador in Kanny next year.

First of all, please let it go and get off his jock, we got a really good starter locked up for a few years in his place. Although not his fault, Young has actually HURT the D-Backs offense this year with his .290 OBP and 100 K to 30 walk ratio in the leadoff spot. I also enjoy the fact that ESPN thinks he should be in that final slot instead of Justin Upton, Jose Valverde, hell even Micah Owings, but that's here nor there.

http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll...ORTS&lead=1 Douglas was one of the best freshman in the land last year, and Iowa's clear cut #1 WR, so that's a huge kick in the balls. And it's sad that Iowa, former home to Steve Alford and in football, the godfathers of the section 8 housing scandal who stood behind the millionaire coaches son living in housing built for the poor, has to be the ones that lay down the law, yet Bruce Weber fights for a CONVICTED felon to be on the Illini (although, to be fair, this is football and Zook DID lay down the law). And as you see the players hometowns, you remember that Detroit sucks. -
That's a new video, and whoever made it doesn't appear to speak english, but God bless him anyways because it's the Shaq/Cheers remix, and it's hiliarious. Oh, and rangercal, that vid of all the rap impressions is sick.
