Yeah, Duke as usual isn't all that good, yet wins because of the refs. I have learned not to freak out about this, they'll get exposed in the Sweet 16 or so just like they usually do, when the refs are told to help out. -

Bulls win tonight by 11, over Dallas, who had won 21 of 22. Outstanding game as most everybody pitched in on both ends. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) Oh I wasn't referring to the Bears need for OLB depth, or how vital Briggs is. I just want the Bills to sign him, and they are interested in him, so, hence, nooooooooo I think it's quite apparent that he is valuable to this Bears team. OHHH ok that makes sense. My best friend is a Tampa Bay fan, and he echoes your sentiments. Briggs and Asante Samuel are going to be RICH though, I know that much. As for the Bears....we need some LB depth (and keep Briggs), as well as a couple OL (they are SO old right now) and perhaps another TE and certainly one more WR. Get it done in April, Jerry.

Bulls and Mavs tonight, be interesting to see if we can hang in there like we did against Phoenix early in the month (and should have won for that matter). I believe the Bulls are the only team to hold Phoenix under 100 in their last like 15 to 20 games actually, but yeah, hopefully we look good tonight. -
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Am I right to assume he is of a "tougher" neighborhood then? What is he doing driving a Mercedes? Possibly, but either way it made me suspecious too. I grew up in a middle class neighborhood, and I didn't know anybody who could even afford to touch a Benz, so who knows.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 07:14 AM) LOL, I don't see where he's saying IU didn't lose. All he's doing is putting some numbers behind it. Agreed. Indiana couldn't have possibly played worse in that game, that's not a loss that should bother you guys at all. -
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) I've posted this thought before, but I would LOVE to see Haeger win it. Wakefield has been a godsend to the Red Sox pitching staff. His ability to eat innings and fill in SP and relief can be used in so many ways. I am pulling for Haeger to have a great spring and take that spot, letting the young arms develop in the minors. There are quite a few scouts out there who think Haeger is going to be THE next really good knuckler. God I hope they are right, that would make me feel a lot better about the future of our staff.

Well, this retards (for lack of a better term) the progress of Murton, it makes your outfield the worst in baseball, no questions asked, defensively, and they'll strike out about 400 times combined (which, even for a SABR friendly guy like me, is a bit over the top). What's the line on who gets hurt first: Floyd or Erstad, btw?

The Cubs get a taste of Zambrao's upcoming salary demands

QUOTE(beautox @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) i agree with santo=dorf if Zambrano came over to the AL he would get destroyed ala Beckett. They aren't comparable IMO. Beckett's problem is he has no idea how to use all of his pitches, whereas Zambrano does a great job at it for the most part (ie when he's not having a temper tantrum). He'd be just fine over here. -
The ONLY redeeming quality of the Murph show on WSCR is the Rick Hahn interviews he has...probably 10 or so a year actually. They are outstanding, Rick is really a great asset to our organzation and an up front guy about things. I hope we don't lose him, but he seems like somebody that could be a GM rather than assistant GM sooner rather than later. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) I have let my feelings on this know before, but just give me a leadoff hitter than can find a way to get the f*** on base. It's really very simple. For me, especially with the type of team we have(Power at 3-4-5) 10 SB's, .380 OBP>>> 55 SB's, .335 OBP God Bless you sir.

From the "department of WHAT THE HELL?" department: Hoosier recruit Eli Holman, who hadn't been playing this year as a HS senior due to assaulting a ref last season during a game, was hit in the spine with a bullet during a drive by on his Mercedes. Fortunately, he was treated and released, but what an odd story. www.contracostatimes.com/...532790.htm www.idsnews.com/news/stor...did=sports www.insidebayarea.com/pre...ci_5066480

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) Obviously there are a few different factors that play into things, but I'm surprised and disappointed with didn't see Preston Wilson's name linked with the Sox. Makes a ton more sense than Erstad IMO. I nearly got killed for wanting Wilson to come here at the deadline last year. With the decent impact he made in St. Louis, I still think he could have helped us.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) noooooooooooo People simply don't realize how much a dropoff this team will have if Briggs goes. There is NO linebacking depth on this team, and Briggs is one of the 3 best OLB's (either OLB spot) in the game.

Marquette, Nevada, and USC are the 3 most underrated teams in the land right now IMO. 3 very, very good squads, and if your looking for this years mid major cinderella, Nevada and Butler are lapping the field as the #1 and #2 candidate (in any order), with Air Force a DISTANT 3rd. I'd put Nevada over Butler though, as Butler plays nobody above 6'7, and Nevada does have decent depth in terms of bigs, led by Fazekas obviously. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) Reggie Miller is a beautiful man. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...386/1004/SPORTS I have a friend here at NIU that grew up in Indiana, and she actually met Reggie a few times....he was just in the area I guess during the summer and actually played basketball with them a few times. I never liked him much as a Bulls rival, but I always respected his game and he's obviously a great person. And btw....this sucks. I have nothing against the state of Indiana, the Colts, Tony Dungy, former NIU OT Ryan Diem, former Illini Aaron Moorehead and Kelvin Hayden, I'm a big Dwight Freeney, Bob Sanders, and Joseph Addai fan, and now that he won the big one....Peyton Manning. I really can't build up hate for this game, as the Colts team is one of the classier ones in sports. -
I have Peanut (blue), Briggs (white), and Payton (blue) jerseys. If Jones get launched this offseason (which I think he will), Benson (probably in Orange) is next. I just love the way he runs. I just hope I don't have to get a replacement jersey for Briggs, WE HAVE 22 MILLION IN CAP ROOM, PAY THE MAN!!

Zambrano is the 2nd best pitcher in the game, and it's not that close IMO. He should be paid accordingly, and certainly more than Zito. -
I love the Bears, and this season, outside of nearly blowing a huge division lead, has felt a lot like the Sox did for me. But COME ON, the Sox are my first love, it's baseball...not even close.
-
If he's healthy, he should be our LF, regardless of if Pods gets healthy again, period. At least IMO.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) Because in the X years the NCAA has existed this has always been how it was done. The best players went to the best colleges regardless of playing time as a true freshman (completely unheard of) as they were almost always redshirted. Right now what Zook is doing at Illinios goes against almost all recruiting hsitory. The reasons why you would chose ND over Illinois are numerous, and pretty apparent. (Chances of winning, national exposure, chances of being drafted in first round, etc) All of that is accurate, but I see no way in hell why Hughes would go to ND. Hard to get exposure when you can't get on the field. And this goes beyond Illinois, Hughes had a lot of other BIG TIME programs that wanted him and could offer PT if he had went to them.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) Go back into your hole, you're a pathetic excuse for an Illini fan. My apologizes for not being a schill. The Illini RPI is much better than I thought, but Randle might be out for a while now, so good and bad. And I don't know how SIU wins games, but it's fun to watch them invent ways to win games every time they play. And OT, but to be fair, Bernsie had no idea what he was talking about with Scheyer, and Bruce never had a shot at Scheyer anyways, he's been a Duker boner since birth basically. That and I never was impressed by Scheyer anyways. -
I forgot all about Aldridge. No idea why Hughes went to ND, he would have played as a true frosh at Illinois, and at ND, I think he'll be behind Prince, Aldridge, AND Allen.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) I haven't posted in here much this year, because it has been kind of a cesspool this year, but Bruce Webber on the hot seat? Come on. The guy is going to get fired because of a mediocre half season, filled with injuries? I thought Sox fans were demanding. Also with that signature... I wonder how many people are saying the samething about recruits signing up by the boatload to be on Illinois's 2-9 football team? Hey, I wonder how Zook does it too, so your preaching to the choir. And, of course, it doesn't matter what I think, it matters what the boosters think. And they are pretty pissed, now tonights win will quiet them down somewhat (although, Indiana could not have possibly played worse, so it was a bit of fools gold). And you know what? They should be pissed about recruiting, when we recruited well, the wins were all over, and the recruiting sucks the last few years, and the team is falling off. It's not a coincidence. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 08:19 PM) So then he's upset at Sampson.. but.. for what? According to Peyton Manning, Bill gave him plenty of praise. That's not the point. Illini fans shouldn't bad mouth Belichick if they stand by Weber, a person Belichick should take a s*** on in terms of what they have accomplished in their respective sports. He's upset at Sampson because it's a tired excuse to try and hide his pathetic recruiting. I agree with that, but Belichick is still as big a douche as anybody in sports, and even a Patriots homer should know that. -

Ben Wallace is quickly making a case for worst Bulls move of my lifetime, surpassing taking Trenton Hassell over Gilbert Arenas, who went the next pick. And God I hate Chris Duhon. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) Out of Gordon, Deng, TT, Hinrich, Noc, and Big Ben...the only player in the NBA I'd be willing to part with more than 1 of those pieces for is Kevin Garnett. There is just too much talent going the other way if 2 of those guys go. There are a lot of players I'd give up Hinrich and Big Ben for.
