  1. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Potential rebounding champions that play outstanding help defense out of the C slot are max contract players. Tyson is a relative bargain. I'll never understand why people mention his contract. If Tyson plays out his contract as well as he has this year, then he's only somewhat overpaid. But there is no way, none, at all, that a player who doesn't score 20 a game should be a max contract player. I KNOW how important defense and rebounding are, but you don't even have to guard Tyson in the half court, and that's a big problem, even with his improved scoring this year due to taking advantage of offensive rebounds.
  2. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) There's virtually no opposition at FSU for it. No controversy. With all the controversy and so many people against it at illinois, might as well just let it go. Sounds like it had to be done. The FSU controversy had to do with the seminole tribes of Oklahoma objecting to the mascot actually. The seminole tribe of Florida had been paid off long, long ago to go along with it, and after FSU paid off the Oklahoma tribe, they shut up too. Unfortunately, there aren't very many living members of anything that resembles the Illini tribe left, so that option isn't available to Illinois.
  3. QUOTE(rangercal @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) I doubt it. He's willing to sign a 10 day contract, that type of money is equal to what he can make on the side just for being who he is. Well thank you for the info, I stand corrected then. Just shocking to me he thinks he can still play.
  4. I've read and heard that Hodge is very similar to the pre injury version of Greg Jones at FSU. Jones was lighter pre injury (225 or so, like Hodge) but ran about a 4.4 (also like Hodge). I can't wait to see him. Oh, and Verdell Jones is all but a Jayhawk already. Get the table ready for him in Lawrence, Jimbo.
  5. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) Nice one. Back in January, Phil Jackson asked Andrew Bynum to study Chandler footage so that he could learn the nuances of rebounding. Phil might have flaked out a tad in recent years, but the dude still knows his basketball. He makes Skiles look like a grade school coach. But then again, who doesn't? He is playing extremely well, and I am happy for him, he's a very nice guy and was very classy towards the Bulls organization after the trade. My thoughts on his hands, lack of anything resembling an offensive game, and contract haven't changed though (although he's FINALLY getting a few more points this year, as he's learned to go back up with the ball on offensive rebounds).
  6. I'm almost as excited about Masset as I am Danks. The thinks I'm hearing about him are eerily similar to those I heard about Jenks, circa early spring 2005. I still really like Danks too, though.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 07:22 AM) Cincy might have been a crappy team, but that wasn't because of the offense. They have some guys on that team who can hit. Now their pitching... ^^^^^^^^^^ They could hit and had 2 good starters last year. The problem was their 3-5 and bullpen were atrocious.
  8. Dontrelle Willis has had a lot of success since he turned his Fernando-esque leg kick into a more normal leg kick, however he's younger and has more velocity than Zito, while releying less on a curveball. But hey, he just signed a deal for 126 million dollars guaranteed, so he can do whatever the hell he wants. Be interested to see how this actually works though.
  9. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 08:57 AM) Don't hold it against the University of Illinois, its fans, or its donors that you were not accepted here. As far as I know, you have no ties to this institution and should not be speaking to this situation in the manner you are. Consider me a moron that is upset that a drunk, frat boy isn't going to dress like an Indian and dance. It's tradition and the last poll of Native Americans asked if they had a problem with Illiniwek that I saw offered no evidence that they overwhelmingly opposed to our drunken frat boy--quite the contrary. Go Huskies. I didn't even apply to go to Illinois, and chose NIU in part because I had 2 family members that live in Chicago diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of my senior year of high school, but thanks for playing the "I'll try to use a personal shot to piss somebody off" game. And if your ACTUALLY upset over this, yes your a moron. If you disagree with the double standard and don't like it like SnB and IlliniKrush, that's more than fair, but any other anger over this is silly.
  10. Tyson Chandler would be a lock to win the rebounding contest if they had one
  11. Wal Mart generates 3 million dollars in revenue every 7 minutes. Each year, more than 50,000 Americans are injured by jewelry. A mole can dig a hole 300 feet deep in 1 night. Time Magazine's "Man of the Year" in 1938 was Adolf Hitler The smallest human penis ever measured was 5/8 of an inch long, and coincidentally, the proud owner of said member is a moderator on these very message boards. (ok, i made the 2nd part of that up. maybe). In Michigan, a married woman isn't allowed to cut her hair without her husbands permission.
  12. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 11:10 AM) A marquette fan beat the crap out of Chicago sports broadcaster chet coppock after the DePaul - marquette game, apparently for no reason...nice... I heard that the other day and laughed for about 10 minutes. The interesting thing is the Bears ESPN 1000 pregame show seems cursed right now, Coppock got his ass kicked, and Mongo hasn't been seen for 2 weeks (according to Mac, Jurko, and Harry yesterday).
  13. The students won't be nearly as pissed off as the crusty old people, which is why the donorship will get hurt (idiots) a lot more than the students will get pissed. And it's not fair about FSU, your correct, it's not consistent, but then again, it's the NCAA.
  14. Well, for the first time ever, I am sad to hear that a young child did not die in a mass siege of death, considering what he did at that mall. Says a lot about humanity these days.
  15. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 16, 2007 -> 03:17 AM) Well who didn't see this one coming, final home basketball game this season as the final performance. Anyway, i still think it's complete bulls*** that a longstanding university tradition (81 years) has to hit the road. I really don't see what it's going to accomplish from the NCAA's perspective (again, FSU can keep their 'hostile' mascot, blah blah blah). At least the name won't change from 'fighting illini' (correct me if i'm wrong). Tons of people won't be donating now, so I hope the university is ready to deal with that. No, they aren't changing the actual nickname (I'd have a problem with that, big time), they are just getting rid of that stupid ass costume and stupid ass dance, that's all. It is also BS that FSU gets to keep their flaming spear thrower, but they payed off the still relevelant Seminole tribe of Florida in order to keep it, whereas the Illini tribe is just about wiped out. Thems the breaks..... Oh and who the hell are these morons that aren't going to donate to the University anymore because a drunk frat boy isn't going to dress like an Indian and dance, Cubs fans? It's an embarassment people that dumb are associated with the school, to be honest (and yes, I know your right this will cost them donors, sad but true).
  16. Haha it's OFFICIAL, baseball is back!! Although this is bizarre, even by the lofty standards the Cubs have set. Is this was Pinella meant by Cubbie Stagger....err Swagger?
  17. Jamar came back to Champaign very briefly Thursday to visit Brian and see how he was doing, then went right back home. Also, Brian is going to be on the bench Sunday, barring a setback, but Jamar won't be. As for the party....I hadn't heard a word about it, so if it was going on, the coaches had no idea. And I also heard the reason the breathelizer test results aren't going to go public are because Jamar isn't 21, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. Either way, even if Jamar WASN'T drunk somehow, he's a complete idiot and is still facing felony charges because he didn't call for help within half an hour of an accident he caused, that injured somebody else to the point where they had to stay at least overnight in the hospital (and obviously more in this case). QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 11:30 PM) Not really depending on the facts. Some say he went into his apartment to call the police and left his blinking lights on on his car to draw attention to the vehicle. Others say just the opposite. Jamar went into his apartment, and either didn't call police at all, or had a long enough delay in calling them that somebody else who noticed the car from another apartment called, and help arrived, before Jamar did a thing. Either way that's a BIG problem.
  18. I don't think the problem is giving an answer that he doesn't like or agree with the gay lifestyle. Saying "I hate gay people", however, is unacceptable. There is a difference between having an opinion and saying they don't belong in the world or America and that you hate them.
  19. A global warming convention earlier this week had to be cancelled due to blizzard like conditions and sub zero wind chills.
  20. My personal choice would be the old guy that wrote the KFC recipe and is on all the signs at the restaurants, the kernal or whatever. Have him do a dance at halftime, that would be great.
  21. The 2 most obvious signs of bad coaching in basketball are inconsistency and mediocrity in late game/in the lead spots. Scott Skiles team matches both those descriptions, yeah. Oh, and the Bulls COULD afford to make the Gordon/Brown/1st round for Gasol trade if we still had J.R. Smith. But we don't, because we had to dump him for a "high character" guy like Adrian Griffin. Thanks, Pax.
  22. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Let me be the first to say how LONG OVERDUE this is. Maybe it makes me a bad Illini fan to say it, but I believe it. I hate to quote a moron like Stuart Scott, but his line "sound and fury signifying nothing" describes what was the long debate about the chief. IT'S A FREAKING STUPID ASS INDIAN COSTUME THAT A DRUNKEN FRAT BOY DOES A FAKE DANCE IN!! And Illinois students and alums are going to STILL get their panties all up in a bunch over this. Well save yourself the time, and I'm glad I never have to hear about this crap again. /rant
  23. I don't think there is one of these, if there is than sorry, but anyways I'll start it off: 100 million Americans per year suffer from diarrhea due to improperly prepared food. In the typical office workplace, a desk has more bacteria than a toilet.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 15, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) I heard Jamar called Pierre Pierce to get his advice Woulda made more sense to call Halle Berry, based on what he did. But the fact that what I considered my least reliable source was pretty spot on about when 911 was called is sobering news (pardon the expression). And just for the record, the direct quote I was told was "If Jamar called 911 at all, it wasn't until after he arrived at the apartments, and somebody else had already called 911 there first after seeing the car in the lot".
