Another mental breakdown, well done Juan....now Hafner will bat with 2 on and 2 outs. Well done Uribe. -

2 quick outs, then a single for Sizemore. Cotts is warming, so Michaels is the last guy Javy faces no matter what with Hafner on deck. -

Ideally, you'd like to get Javy through the 6th keeping it 2-1, then B-Mac for 2, then Jenks.....or that's what I'd be thinking if I were Ozzie at least. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) Javier's brinksmanship coming back up. This is beyond brinkmanship, we need a new term to describe what Javy is doing tonight. Yay, an out on only 4 pitches!! Javy really was economical there. In other news, my hair is turning gray and falling out and I have moved all nearby sharp objects. Now Javy misses with a curveball, Peralta ducks, and the ball hit the umpire on the elbow, lol. Wow....and hey, a 5 pitch out to Peralta, 2 outs!! Here's Blake, who has stepped in twice, and has been hit twice. And Blake is retired on 5 pitches and a whiff!! A 14 pitch inning, Javy freaking mowed 'em down there. Through 5 for Javy: 5 IP, 6 hits, 1 run (earned), 3 hit by pitch, 1 reach on error, 1 walk, 9 left on by Cleveland, 9 k's, 102 pitches. And 2-1 Sox heading to the bottom of the 5th. -

Unreal, strikes out Hafner and Martinez. Indians have scored 1 and left 9 on base in FOUR INNINGS. Javy updated line: 4 IP, 6 hits, 3 hit by pitch, 1 walk, 1 reached on error, 8 strikeouts, 88 pitches, 1 run (earned) This is unbelieveable. -

Javy through 3 innings: 63 pitches, 5 hits, 3 hit by pitches, 6 strikeouts, 1 run (earned) That's an amazing amount of action in 3 innings. Great play by Belliard to keep it from 1st and 2nd 2 outs. Inning over. -

I don't know how the hell Javy has only given up 1 in these 3 innings, but he's done it. He needs to be a bit more economical though, or he'll need 130 pitches just to get through 6. Hopefully he settles down a bit. Pablo hits it well, but Blake has it.....1 out. -

ouch, hits Blake again. 3rd hit batsmen, 2nd time on Blake. Bases loaded 2 outs for Belliard. Damn is Javy having to labor. QUOTE(ShoeLessRob @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:30 PM) I haven't heard anyone say that minnesota would be in it at the end ... that's funny. Hawk just did, lol. -

Everybody can keep saying Cleveland and Minnesota will be there at the end, and it's cute, but it's also wrong. Cleveland can't pitch and Minnesota can't hit, and that s*** isn't changing. And wow, hell of a hammer from Javy to get Peralta. -

QUOTE(ShoeLessRob @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) This is a out of the blue question but does anyone notice the camera men focusing more on women this year then in the past? The talent level at games is at an all time high this year, so you are correct and it makes sense. -

If you think Pods is the worst defensive LF in baesball, then you've never seen the Cubs, Reds, Giants, Nationals, Phillies, Angels, or Red Sox play. Pods isn't good in left, but he's definitely not the worst. -

Yeesh, Uribe and Pods with b**** slap shots, but both right at the fielders. -

Our defense f***ing sucks, but way to pitch over that Javy. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) This was mentioned on another MB, so don't flame me, but who thinks this is a little ploy to try and get some of the mormon crowds out to the game? Well I doubt it since mormonism and christianity are entirely different and most branches of christianity consider morminism a "cult".

That thing with Kaz Matsui and how it worked out shows that as shrewd the Iguchi signing was, it was also VERY VERY lucky with how it worked out.

Poland is probably toast, unless they plan on beating Germany on their soil. Doubtful. -
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 05:34 PM) According to a rival article by Jerry Meyer, Evan Turner might commit to Illinois very soon. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=551566 It's a pay article, this is the preview you get when you go to the link. This is certainly very good news. Great news, a wing like him is exactly what the Illini need, and he's quite a talent.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) I'm not exactly in that boat, but my fandom sure has changed. I feel like I'm insanely more bitter after any loss this year than I ever was in the past. And sometimes I hate the fact that I (and several of us) are not totally pleased with a 36-23 record. In any other year, we would be pretty damn pleased with that kind of record at this point. Our expectations certainly have risen and will stay that way for quite awhile now. I just have to say it was a lot easier being the optimist of years past and believing a World Series trophy is possible, versus expecting a World Series trophy. I need to turn my attachment level down a few notches to my teams, so losses don't get to me too much. Because this team definitely owns a great deal of emotions during the months of April through October. I think the combination of the fact that we won it all last year (which is new for us), us being so damn talented this year and a team that can repeat, and all the new fans and attention have created a perfect storm to make us as a fanbase as bitter as ever. It's not "we haven't won in 88 years" bitter though, it's more like "what the hell, we won it all last year, we should win every day with this team since it's more talented" bitter. And also, the fact we honestly haven't played well this year and are still 36-23 makes things weird. This team has played a lot of bad baseball, but is still 36-23, a record that almost any other year we'd be THRILLED to have right now, which is another odd dynamic.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) I'm going to agree with Bernstein. We aren't going to win with Mack as our everyday CF. We're not going to win with Pods hitting as bad as he is. We're not going to win with Uribe if he can't even put down a bunt. We're not going to win if Greg Walker continues to tell him not to do the leg kick which was very stupid. We're not going to win with Buehrle and Garland being inconsistant. We're not going to win with all the constant brainfarts. Those are all problems, but Mack will not be our everyday CF on August 1st, guaranteed. Buehrle is going to be fine, you and I both know that (and as soon as we have a CF everyday that doesn't suck on defense, that will help). Garland is a 5th starter, and our record in his starts is decent. He's been bad, but isn't the problem. Pods OBP is still at the same level it was last year, even with his current low average, so you know he's going to get that average and OBP back up too. The bunting concerns me......but that can be fixed, as can the brainfarts, which also concern me. This team right now is out of sync, stupid, and dumb. And we're STILL 1.5 games behind the best record in the game. Think about what happens when Kenny makes his move, and we get in sync, and we are more consistent in general? Bernstein will defend his comment by loopholes like "I said the team RIGHT NOW". Well of course we're not looking great RIGHT NOW, we aren't playing well. But a lot of people (ironic for ME to say this) need to calm the hell down. Last year was a fluke in the sense we built that 15 game lead, and went 11-1 in the playoffs. It's almost NEVER that easy, we're just taking a more conventional route filled with lots of bumps and struggles this year.

Wow, Oral Roberts is done. They lose 11-8 on a walk off grand slam homer by Tyler Colvin. What a punch to the gut, have your dominating closer out there and he just gets owned. #1 escapes having 2 straight must win games. I hope Colvin enjoys it, he'll never hit a homer bigger than that unless of course he signs with somebody other than the Cubs once he's eligible for free agency.
-
What a shocker. Oral Roberts scores 3 in the top of the 9th at #1 Clemson after there were 2 outs, it's now 8-7 Oral Roberts in the bottom of the 9th of game 1 of the best of 3 super regional. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) Clemson looked like they were going to Beat Oral Roberts, but in the 9th inning with 2 outs Roberts got a rally going and tied the game and has now taken the lead. Clemson needs a run in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extra's. Been a great game. Haha beat me to it.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) If he did it, screw him, but I ain't about to stop being a fan of the game I love. There are plenty of guys who play this game clean, although I'm sure there is a lot of stuff that should and needs to be cleaned up in clubhouses. Just like it does in the NBA, NFL and most other professional sports (non sports enhancing drug use and drug use alike). Yep I agree, I'm not going to let the cheaters ruin how I feel about baseball at all, but it is a shame it has come to this. Thanks for ignoring the problem all these years, Bud.

Vasquez has great numbers vs. Cleveland, and Lee has been horrible against us I believe (at least those 2 have been true this year). So in theory, this pitching matchup should favor us strongly, whereas Sabathia vs. Buehrle should favor Cleveland strongly. What will happen? Cleveland wins tonight, we win tomorrow I bet. That's just how baseball is . -
He also said you can't win a World Series with Juan Uribe as your starting SS last year, and that we'd miss the playoffs because Cleveland was better. Bernstein is an over emotional Sox fan, even moreso that the biggest die hards around here, so ignore his White Sox panic nonsense. The fact this team is this flawed right now and is still only 1.5 games behind the team with the best record in baseball is a GOOD thing. Give Ozzie, Kenny, and some of these guys time.....things will improve. And if we started a thread for every stupid comment by Dan Bernstein, bandwith would be hard to come by .
