Jeff Nelson = Done
Not surprising at all....and after hearing his comments today on Grimsley, I'm glad he won't be playing in our uniform anymore.

2006 White Sox Draft Selections
I saw Kapteyn pitch as well (a close friend of mine's cousin goes to Illiana). As SF1 said, very good control and a fastball that probably is in the 88-90 range now if scouting and common sense are correct based on him growing into his body as he gets older.

Derrick Rose (link to video inside)
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) It's the same reason that Georgia Tech stopped recruiting Sherron Collins last year. Correct. Although I could see UNC having class and dropping off of Rose since he's going to the highest bidder, however Georgia Tech isn't somebody I'd consider to be a classy school that wouldn't pay Collins. But in that case, guess they took the high road.

ST Poll: Which position player is most deserving of being an All-Star?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) IMO, he's not even an All-Star this season, depending of course on how many closers will be taken. Papelbon (by far, he's been unreal) and Ryan (who Bobby has more saves than) are the only AL closers ahead of him on the depth chart right now IMO, so I think he'll go.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Like last night, Absolut, Dye, and Jenks come up HUGE!! Unlike last night, our starting pitcher and Thome are solid. Like last night, it's a huge 4-3 win over the Tigers. Tigers=0-5 against us. Let's make it 0-6 and a 0.5 game lead for the good guys in the Central tomorrow night.

Message to Jim Thome
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) Yes, a mod with a vendetta saying cheers to a personal attack, how mature. I hope your internet banter and cleverness makes you feel good about yourself. Oh, and as I said Thome is still a great player and our 2nd most valuable player at the moment, however I want to see him get a runner home from 3rd with 1 out. However apparently that is too much to ask.

Game Thread: 6/7/06. Sox-Tigers, Contreras-Verlander, 7:05 start
Fastball with some movement....almost a cutter-type pitch fouled off by Maggs, 0-1. Straight gas on that one, but low and away for a 1-1 count. RACK 'EM UP, ABSOLUT TO PK, 6-3, SOX WIN THE GAME 4-3!!!!

Game Thread: 6/7/06. Sox-Tigers, Contreras-Verlander, 7:05 start
NASTY slider on the 1st pitch to Infante, and now a base hit to right. Here is Maggs, showdown time.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) I realize he got the outs, but did he look good doing it? I wish I got home just a bit earlier so I could have watched. Was he locating his off-speed stuff or was it just the FB? He was throwing strikes with all his pitches, but catching too much plate. As for Zumaya....you don't want to rush him into closing guys, remember LaTroy Hawkins (in his prime, he had similar stuff).

Game Thread: 6/7/06. Sox-Tigers, Contreras-Verlander, 7:05 start
Konerko pokes a groundout to 2nd on a good pitch by Zumaya. Jermaine up now....and he swings through a 98 gasser, 1-1 count. Fastball up, 2-1. Jermaine looking to take both 100 MPH guys from Detroit deep tonight. Swings at a good pitch and nada, 2-2 count. Gasses JD upstairs, and he gone. We're heading to the 9th up 4-3. COME ON JENKS!!

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) I'm still scratching my head over that play by Gomez. How is that not a hit and and error? Same type of deal as the Uribe play vs. the Cubs. You couldn't give Uribe an error since you can't assume the double play, and Crede was being waved from 3rd all the way here. Although Crede is a dead goose with a clean throw, you can't assume a clean throw to get him at home, and Cintron stayed at 1st, so no error is charged.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Yep, and his ERA is down to 3.60 now, albeit he's only pitched about 5 innings. It's very Vizcaino like though, and if he can keep it there, he could definitely have a role in this pen. Well said, and agreed on all counts. And I think he can be a Vizcaino type circa 2005 in the pen.

Thome whiffs, but hey Walker might be the toughest lefty specialist in the game these days. Here comes the righty Zumaya to face Konerko and Dye. This should be interesting.

Game Thread: 6/7/06. Sox-Tigers, Contreras-Verlander, 7:05 start
Montero may have caught too much plate, but at least he threw strikes and made them hit the damn ball, and behind from the count for that matter. Not many have done that out of our pen this year. 3-4-5 up...the deadly trio. Time for some insurance.

Cotts into the game to face Granderson, who has already exited the facilities this evening. 1st pitch is....low I guess?? Ball 1. Cotts throws the cheese upstairs to even the count. Now a fastball that is.....outside I guess?? Ball 2, and this zone sucks. 2-1 is JUST high?? 3-1 count, this zone makes me think the ump has a Tigers tee on under his uniform. 3-1 is taken for a strike, full count and Wilson gets a head start from 1st. 3-2 pitch....GOT HIM!!! ON THE GAS!!! INNING OVER!!

Game Thread: 6/7/06. Sox-Tigers, Contreras-Verlander, 7:05 start
1 out, as Gooch grabs what sounded like a broken bat shot by Shelton on 0-2. 2nd pitch to Gomez is hit to center, Rob has it on the edge of the track, 2 outs for the #9 hitter Vance Wilson. Montero staying in to face the righty Wilson, who is 0 for 3. Breaking ball strike, 0-1. Breaking ball again and just tapped it foul, 0-2. At least Montero is throwing strikes, nice to see outta this damned bullpen. 0-2 to Wilson, and a base hit to center, ugh bad pitch. Here is Granderson, and Cotts is coming in.

It's 7-8-9 for the Tigers. Let's get this over with in order please.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) Was crede dead if the lf doesn't bobble ball? Depends on the throw by Gomez. If it's average or above average, he's a goner. Pods k's on the sweeper. Gooch up with a man on 2nd and 2 outs. EDIT: We go to the 8th up 4-3, and it'll be Thome/Konerko/Dye in the bottom half trying to add insurance for Jose (hopefully).

Well Mack gets the bunt down. Man to 2nd, 1 out. 2 chances to get an RBI single to go back ahead. Here is last nights hero, can he do it again?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) Keep the faith guys. Last night should have taught you that. Oh we're going to win the game, but that doesn't excuse that disaster at 3rd by Crede on the Maggs ball.

Well Joe with the leadoff single....not bad. And Verlander surpasses 100 pitches, and is done for the night. 103 pitches for him in 6+, 119 for Jose in 7 full. Jose gives up 3, Verlander 3 (possibly 4 ). Not a bad night for the pitchers, up to the pens now as Walker comes in for the Tigers.
