QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Your and You're are two different words kid. Secondly I never said rankings are overrated, they just change. He has had 3 mediocre incoming classes correct? At this time next year if his next class is elite, I will change my perception, until then, he has shown he doesnt have the recruiting prowess it takes to compete year after year in a great conference. Shaun Pruitt looked pretty good last night, that's a Weber recruit. Jamar Smith is top 10 in America shooting 3's, that's a Weber recruit. CJ is redshirting, but you'll see him next year. Frazier does very well for a freshman off the bench. His recruits other than Brock, who has been a bust, have seemed pretty decent so far. But then again, he can't recruit because he only gets 3 stars, but Wisconsin recruits well since they find 3 star "diamonds in the rough". And please, save the spelling lessons and calling me "kid", not sure what point that makes other than your getting pissed and trying to hide it when in reality this is simply a friendly debate.

I'm not even defensive here, I'm simply pointing out the arguments being made are incredibly stupid. I'm not saying Bruce Weber is John Wooden or that Ron Zook is going to lead the Illini to Pasadena by 2009, but it's just simply amazing the blind Illini hate some people have, it really causes folks to leave logic and common sense out of arguments. I don't even bother reading the long winded anti Illini posts, because none make sense.
-
You guys can't have it both ways. So recruiting rankings are overrated, but Illinois can't recruit, but their great 2007 class won't matter for a while. The circular arguments are something, please just admit you hate Illinois and root for your team, because your clueless in this case.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) I love when people decide to post in threads where they have no idea what they are talking about, just to try and raise hell for no particular reason. "The guy simply can't recruit" is soooo 2005 of you. That argument pretty much went out the door when Eric Gordon verballed to the Illini a few months ago. Hes the #1 SG in the country for 2007. I do agree with Palehose however. The amount of guys that 'have to bulk up' that Weber is bringing in is insane. You can include Semrau, Cole and Tisdale all in that group. Agreed on all counts except 1. Semrau is actually about 6'10 235, he isn't really skinny at all. Cole and Tisdale got a LOT of work to do though.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) Gonna huh? They have nobody for next year, and they wont in the future. The guy simply cant recruit. Umm I'll assume your just stupid or kidding?? The 2007 class has 3 top 100 players already, and is a lock to get a 4th, regardless of if it's Rose or not. That's a top 5 class. But lemme guess, that class is a fluke and Weber sucks. Go back to Kansas.

We got better, the Indians got worse......after we were 6 games better LAST year. WTF is Neyer talking about?

He's a VERY VERY talented player, sounds like he may have some attitude issues though. Hopefully he gets it together. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) Illinois is not going to sniff another big ten title after this year for awhile. Bruce Weber cant recruit and has had his success with players that were there before him. He doesnt even have a class on the top 25 incoming while OSU, MSU, and Wisco do. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=477059&sid=910 here is the updated rankings. Umm Carlwell is a top 40 player in America, and...well Semrau people will find out about. And next year, Illinois will have a top 5 class in the nation. But if you want to be hopeful and say Illinois is screwed, good luck!! Next year might not be great, but after that look out.

NIU received a verbal from QB Billy Lowe of Lakeland, Florida. This is a big deal on 2 counts, because he not only helps continue the gradual build of a Florida pipeline NIU is trying to get, but he is also REALLY good. His team has went 30-0 the last 2 years, and won the national championship last year. Plus, NIU REALLY needed another QB. http://flavarsity.rivals.com/viewprospect....y=41837&sport=1

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) I think this game showed that Ohio State and Wiscy are the cream of the crop in trhe Big 10. I think the league is so even, it comes down to something as simple as the schedule. Hence Wisky wins the league IMO. -

Obviously Dee needs to shot or the Illini can't win, but at the same time it was a good sign to see others step up and the team continue to fight and come back in a tough environment against a tough team. I know it sounds silly, but after watching the tape, I think overall progress was made tonight, even in defeat. However there was good tonight. The reason I came home and watched the tape of the Illini game is I was at The Convo Center as NIU dispatched of MAC favorite and defending champs Ohio (who was 10-2, 4-0) 64-59. The Huskies are now 9-5 (4-2) and in GREAT position to win the MAC West as (a) most of the beef of the schedule is passed and (B) the MAC West other than us BLOWS. Be nice too, winning the division would mean the #2 seed in the league tournament and gives us a decent shot at winning the thing. -

Can't decide what's funnier......the fact the Mizzou fans stormed the floor after beating a crappy Kansas team, or that Bail has Kansas this crappy. Early on, I could see some of this, but Kansas right now just sucks. It goes far beyond being young.... -
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) he is 6'1" and is not very slow. He has good speed but not great speed. He runs his routes well and he catches almost anything in sight. 6'1" is a stretch, he's 6 feet tall. He is slow, no matter how much you homerize it (runs a high 4.6 in the 40). He's smart, runs routes well, and has great hands, but there is no way he's worth a 2nd round pick. He's a Ricky Proehl type, not very big or fast, but a smart #3 or #4 receiver who can find a hole in a zone on 3rd down to make a catch.
-
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) yeah in the 2nd round. What is the problem with that? He's not very big and is slow. That's my problem with him, he won't be able to get open in the NFL.

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) See that is the key to beating IU. Don't try and contain Marco. Let him get 30 in the first 30 minutes of the game but defend the hell out of the 3-pt line. By the time there are 10 minutes left, Marco will be out of gas from having to do it all himself and will start to miss shots. So he gets 34 and Illinois still wins.... I think you would take the win, right? I really think the key is to make Killingsworth work hard to get his points, but to work harder on defending the perimiter. Marco can't go 40 minutes and do it all. Agreed 100 percent, and that's the strategy I expect the Illini to use, holding Indiana to about 70 points. However, I think the Illini will only be able to score about 60 themselves.... -
QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) take marquice cole for example, he did not even have 1 star out of high school but the guy has 4.3 speed and was second team all conference this year, just another example of how stars usually arent all their hyped up to be That guy is another example of why recruiting is really an inexact science. I saw him single handedly beat my HS's best football team in history on the state playoffs when he was a senior in HS. Half our team was on a track team that was top 10 in state, and he just made us look slow running the option, while causing havoc on our passing game as well. I could have told you he'd be a real good college player, yet he was a 1 star recruit.

Dee is going to have to have one of those nights shooting, or we will lose by 10 points. Indiana with the home crowd is going to be too much, and going into conference, this was the one game I have penciled in as a pretty sure loss. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) In India, cows are sacred. In the USA we eat ground beef. They must think we are a disgusting society. Muslims won't touch pork. We eat it tons of it every day. Point taken, but what does that have to do with Bill Clinton? I'm not making fun of some guy from Indian for worshiping a cow, I'm finding it gross that a guy from Arkansas ate raccoon. That's freaking gross, no matter how "ignorant" I am for saying it.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) we might not be throwing to them because they aren't good recievers. *ding ding ding* Winner!! This offense likes to use the TE.....if the TE doesnt' suck ass.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) What?! I didnt see that, and you would think that this would have been shown on the replays and noticed by the announcers. Im callin "Da Bearsss" fan on this one. The ball didn't hit the ground, and even if so....they'd have had 2nd and goal inside the 1, so I highly doubt it would have mattered.

http://www.dailysouthtown.com/southtown/ds.../pro/162sd6.htm That's the link to the story your talking about. Very interesting stuff.

That is freaking gross.....although at least he didn't sleep with his cousin.

Not sure if anybody else heard this, but Laurence Holmes (who I really like) was on the Score's postgame with Doug and Ed and said that Mike Brown re injured the calf jumping in the air celebrating after the goal line stand in the 1st half that led to the 20 yard FG by Casey. Wow, if that's true....ugh.

We need to get several good d backs, at both safety and corner. Our secondary has no depth (a fact that will get worse since Azumah will be gone) and with the way Peanut has looked, we may only have 1 starting corner on this team. I love Mike Brown, but he is hurt a lot, and our safties after him and Chris Harris (who SAVED us at one safety spot this year) aren't any good. We just need a lot of help in the secondary. Also, we need some LB depth. I like the starters, and Joe and Ayenbadejo (how far off was i on spelling?) are ok, but we could use another guy there too. Our DL is loaded, even though they weren't too good today (a fact I think that was aided by the bad footing, just like in Pittsburgh). Interesting enough, we need just as many d players as we do o players going into next year IMO.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) So when the f*** do we resign Briggs and sign Randle El??? Soon and hopefully not too long after that. I think adding Randle El with Moose, one of the rookie TE's (Davis, Lewis, Pope), a healthy Bradley and Rex, and Gage and Berrian will put us in decent shape passing the ball.
