  1. I still wish we'd just carry Cotts. 1 REALLY good lefty, as well as a couple righties that get LH hitters out at a very high rate, is more than adequate. Hell, the Angels had ZERO LHP out of the pen last year, and they turned out pretty good (until they met us in October).
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) The Sox had a big ticker tape parade, but the Cubs would have a bigger one. Whoopdiefrickendoo Morrisey, when they have their parade, if they have their parade, we will judge for ourselves. Yeah, saying the Cubs parade would be "omgtehgreatestthingevah!" is like saying we'd be in trouble if a nuclear power plant exploded from within, wiping out life all over the planet. Yeah it sounds like quite an event, but there is no way it will ever happen.
  3. I'm offcially a loser.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) I believe it was the perfect set of circumstances which drew the current Cub-group in. Without something more than 100 years of futility to attach yourself to, Cubdom won't continue growing at the level it did in the early, mid 90's. True, and there were a lot of circumstances....but I still don't get how people could embrace a team that plays in a hellhole, hasn't won in almost a century, and couldn't give 2 s***s or a f*** about winning anytime soon.
  5. The more I think about it, the more I'm confused how ANYBODY could be dumb enough to fall into the Cub trap. I honestly can't see how you could fall for that joke of a product unless you were brainwashed.
  6. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:26 AM) Tell that to Carmelo/Mcnamara. yikes that makes me :puke I assume you have Rush playing the role of Carmelo in your senario despite the fact he's not nearly as good. However, who plays Warrick and who plays the white guy that makes 7 or 8 threes?
  7. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) After he leads us to a national championship he can go...Maybe he will take Kareem's advice, and not Jaron's. He better stay 3 or 4 years if he wants any shot to do that....you guys have A TON of young talent, but have a long way to go before being that good.
  8. Can somebody explain to the stupid *waves* what exactly "core of the core" is? I know this is the 2nd year they are doing it.
  9. I've heard Kaplan talk about the White Sox a couple times this offseason...the pain in his voice is unmistakeable. It is GREAT to hear, Kaplan is the TYPICAL clueless drunken "fan of the Ivy" Cubs guy. Also, well said Flash and agreed on all counts. It is going to take time, but last year was the start of the gradual shift towards sanity, which resides 8.2 miles to the south of "The Shrine".
  10. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Good to see the Tribune doesn't have any sort of agenda.
  11. Rush is long gone unless he has a MAJOR slump or gets hurt. There is a reason he was so desperate to get into the draft last year and only went to Kansas as a LAST resort. Oh, and Georgetown beating Pittsburgh at home is far from an upset if it happens IMO, I'd consider the Hoyas the favorite in that matchup.
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Gonzaga has been in the top 10 regularly a couple of times in the past 5 years or so. Yes they lack defense but they're very explosive and have one of the best offenses in the country. I never said anything about George Washington, maybe any other year it'd be like that, but Gonzaga is here to stay. They are in the top 10 because the media and coaches love affair for them that goes back to when they first busted out onto the scene as a "mid major" in the late 90's. Gonzaga's play in the tournament, however, has shown their true colors.
  13. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) 04 Rose Bowl VS Michigan - 23/34, 327 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT 05 Orange Bowl VS Oklahoma - 18/35, 332 yards, 5 TD, 0 INT 06 Rose Bowl VS Texas - 29/40, 365 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT Those are his lines in every bowl game he played in college. I honestly don't see a horribly bad game in there to begin with...but it's also a little point of interest to see that he, you know, kind of had success in big games before too. Is it his fault the USC defense was not capable of shutting down the Texas offense whatsoever? In the end, 38 points should be more than enough points to win a game if your defense has a so-so day...Vince Young flatout manhandled them and took advantage of one of the lone USC weaknesses. The fact that he had won 2 national championships before - albeit one shared national championship - tells me more than I need to know about his big game abilities. The fact remains that Leinart not only has produced much more than Dorsey did in college, but he's also more polished and much more talented overall. If Leinart is anything worse than average, I'll be surprised as hell. The "fact" that Leinart produced more? They both had a 34 game winning streak, 1 BCS title, a ton of talent, and poor arm strength. Dorsey played pretty well in his bowl games too. As of now, there is no difference between the 2 except one of them throws with his left hand. Come back in 5 years, and maybe this won't be the case.
  14. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) All the media guys have really got on the bandwagon of GW of late. A lot of them are talking about them as a team to go a few rounds in the tourney. Yeah, but there are 3 dozen teams that could a few rounds in the tourney this year because of the mediocrity.
  15. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) Wow KU could win that bracket... If your a top 12 seed in any bracket this year, you have a chance. That's how bad the NCAA is this year.
  16. Lunardi always gets almost every team right in his bracketology, but is clueless as to the seeds. He's a guy to pay attention to if your team is on the bubble, but one to ignore in terms of what he predicts your teams seed will be.
  17. Let me clarify. Based on the current state of the NCAA, I can see putting Gonzaga at #5 and GW at #10, and they are both nice teams. But ANY other year, neither of these teams sniff the top 10. GW in their one true test this year was BLOWN AWAY by NC State, and Gonzaga, although good, isn't a top 10 team either (they play NO defense). EDIT: As I look, I give GW some props, as they won a close one at home vs. Maryland and another at Temple, 2 nice wins. But I just can't buy them as a top 10 team, maybe it's just the fact it's freaking GW.
  18. The fact that Gonzaga is #5 and George Washington is #10 in the land in both polls tells me (1) how down the NCAA is and (2) how dumb the voters are.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 08:58 AM) The entire sports world must stop for two weeks out of respect for the Super Bowl. The public can only care about one thing at a time. We want 24/7 Super Bowl coverage. Let's hear about what some obscure lineman eats for breakfast. Damn, NBA playing games. The NBA even orchestrated the Artest trade/no trade/trade to steal the limelight. I think most people can pay attention to more than one story. I can't believe there has been any Super Bowl story that you are missing because a HoF QB is contemplating retirement. I agree but I'm grasping for straws here to rip at (1) Brett Favre and (2) ESPN, so work with me. Also, the entire sports world shouldn't stop for 2 weeks for the Super Bowl, but the entire NFL world should. And in unrelated news, the week off in between the Championship Games and the Super Bowl is the lamest thing ever.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 08:47 AM) The Tweeter center, that explains everything. I cant even count how many times that place (and its twin in St Louis) have robbed me of a good listening experience because of their piss poor set-up and acoustics. First (and only) time I've been there, amen man that place sucks. And AMEN on Mobb Deep Los, I just hope he doesn't ruin himself in G-Unit. His older stuff is great, and more recently "Got it Twisted" is excellent.
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) Borchard will win it as long as he finishes spring training in one piece. He out of options, so he's going to be on the roster, or gone. 9 times out of 10 that means you make the roster. (right Timo?) Ozzie and Kenny won't hesitate to call on Owens mid-season, or even earlier, if Borch is teh suck 100 percent correct, however I am VERY concerned that Ozzie will stick with Borch too long (ie Timo Perez) and leave Owens in the minors.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) REALLY? That surprises me, my buddy saw them at Coachella and said they blew the roof off, the second half of their set was all beat boxing and free styling. He said they had the crowd in their hand and it was just off the hook the whole show. Sometimes I think show location has alot to do with show performance. I love their cds, Im gonna have to check out their show now. I still really like their CD's and listen to them, but due to their underwhelming live performance, no longer have them as "suggested hip hop". I saw them at Tweeter down in Tinley Park though, which is a spacious facility to say the least. I bet if I saw them again in a more intimate setting like a club or something, it would be a different story.
  23. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) I'm just waiting for Oprah to secede from the Union and take 98% of America's women with her. So true man. Most every girl I have ever known loves Oprah, it's really an amazing strangehold she has on the female population.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) and if you want to taste a little hip hop, you can try out some Jurassic 5, GURU(Jazzmatazz Volume 1), Some early OutKast(ATLiens) Amen on GURU and early Outkast (especially ATLiens). I can't say Jurassic 5 though, I was a big fans of theirs...but then saw them live in concert last summer, and it left a lot to be desired.
  25. Example 22,589,763 why I don't watch ESPN. They make a non story like somebody "leaning towards retiring" their "breaking news". Now a non story will be the headline for 2 or 3 days of super bowl week. Also, screw Brett Favre, this was clearly done by him now to take the headlines and get the Packers attention.
