  1. My only problem is that Chief Illiniwek is considered "hostile", but that Indian guy that throws a flaming spear into the 50 yard line at FSU isn't. As usual with the NCAA, it's all about the $$$
  2. I must say I'm very excited about Rich McBride. He seems to be showing the threat of an offensive game inside the arc, and Wisky respected it tonight. As a result, McBride had some VERY good looks tonight, and his shooting numbers reflect it. This is obviously great news, IMO Rich is a VERY good defender and a consistent offensive game out of him makes Rich a VERY good player. I just freaking wish Brian and James would stop with the dumb fouls, they are so damned good when on the floor. Oh, and Jamar Smith is SICK with the shot, guy is a lethal weapon.
  3. UNI has no business being ranked. Took total smoke and mirrors for them to even win the home game against SIU, and they are now screwed with tonight's defeat.
  4. If Indiana had DJ White, I'd pick them against UConn....but with him gone, I think UConn attacks Marco, getting him into foul trouble, and picks up a win.
  5. Wisconsin is WAY shorthanded, but to fall behind 11 up there and play as well as we did to win by 15 says A LOT about this team. The way Jamar, Brian, and Rich played was VERY encouraging....if they can consistently play even close to that level, the Illini are as good as just about anybody out there. And James....your going to leave the only 1,000/1,000 player in school history, but your still a dumbass who drives me insane.
  6. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) Yeah. I'd say that'd probably be the best thing if Mike Davis ever got fired. He doesn't know how to tie his shoes, according to these people. Check out these questions. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...TS0610/51010002 I hope Davis and Amaker keep their jobs.....neither of them can coach a lick, but both have overcome that at times this year due to the incredible talent on their rosters. If either of those teams had a real coach, they'd both be major final 4 threats.
  7. Rivals says Britt re opened his recruiting, but hasn't decided yet. Looks like this one is going down to who gets the papers faxed to them tomorrow.
  8. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) Just a few years is so far away.... Let's go Badgers, its time for a nice board meltdown. Oh God, I don't even go over there for 3 days after losses, people are so stupid. Message board overreactions are so silly, good for a laugh if it's any team but your own. I'm assuming he meant an all around player. But yeah, if Jamar doesn't scare you as a shooter, he will after you left him open and 5 or 6 three pointers have fallen.
  9. Terribly violent game + rampant steroid use, drug use, and drinking=bad.
  10. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) i don't know. rutgers is very, very strong academically. equal to or better than ui (and considering i hold a ui degree that is not easy to say). of course, a lot of times it isn't so much the overall academic situation at a school as it is the amount of "at-risk" kids a program can take in a given year. this is part of the reason cumberland ended up at illinois over osu. osu was at its limit of at-risk kids, so cumberland committed to ui, which is a better academic school. Rutgers has a known recent history of snagging at risk academic kids (particularly from Florida) and getting them qualified. Just a thought, even though Britt is a local NJ kid for them.
  11. However, I must say that I assume that if Britt switches to Rutgers, it is due to the fact he would qualify there, but not at U of I.
  12. I don't buy it yet. Nothing on rivals, and they almost always find out stuff like this first.

Alright I'll throw a name out there: Ludacris. Maybe I'm being lame, but he's one of the few current rappers that I REALLY like that hasn't been around since the mid or late 90's (his first album was in 2000).
  14. Rivals blows away scout in terms of football coverage. Both are pretty good at basketball, but I'd give scout a slight edge.
  15. Even if this fails, the university has IMO done a good job switching the focus of university athletics from the chief to the color orange in general.
  16. Well Illinois is consensus #6 in the land, and Wisky is unranked with a recent home loss to ND State. I can see why it's a pick 'em, but with that said I wouldn't bet either way on tonight's game.
  17. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) Only the last 3 or so years have they been dissapointments, and one of them was when they were playing the #1 seed Arizona. Gonzaga made a Elite 8 run in 1999 and a Sweet 16 run in 2001 to build their reputation, but since then: 2002: L to #11 Wyoming in 1st round 2003: L to #1 Arizona in 2nd round (not too bad I guess) 2004: L to #10 seed Nevada (as a #2 themself) in 2nd round 2005: L to #6 seed Texas Tech (as a #3 themself) in 2nd round I guess that's not TOO bad, but I'm very underwhelmed, in particular by 2002, 2004, and 2005. They had the 2 BIG tourney runs as the "underdog" that nobody too all that seriously. Since then, when people are looking out for them, not so good.
  18. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:17 PM) be careful with the broad-based generalizations. illinois has a long and successful history with the cpl. just because two coaches have been pissy lately it's inaccurate to lump them all together. The CPL has been pissed at us ever since we didn't hire Jimmy Collins to replace Henson. Self did a good job of getting around it, but that bitterness still exists, and it's a problem.
  19. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) I heard that Weber really angered the coach of the Illinois Warriors, the AAU team. This really hurt him with Scheyer and JuJu wright. Weber better keep a connection with CPL, because he really does not have a pipeline. Ehh Scheyer was going to Duke no matter what, even if we had Self still. JuJu went to Kansas because him and his mother LOVE Self going back to when he started contacting him during his last year at Illinois. Collins is really the first guy we lost because of an angry coach, and I hope this isn't a continuing trend. It's just so hard to get those CPL guys to like you, they are all money hungry frauds and you really have to be a good salesmen and talker, and I'm guessing they don't like the brutal honesty Bruce uses. Either way though, there are good players all over and Bruce is starting to show he can get them.
  20. Next year for the Illini will be one of those 20-10, #6 seed in the NCAA tournament kind of seasons. It will be fun to watch and see who steps up as the stud though, and I will enjoy it, although the new standards around Champaign will have people jumping off buildings. Also, Brian Carlwell is going to be a monster, about 6'11 265 with great hands. He just needs to continue to work on the post moves, the thought of him, Pruitt, and Jackson beating people's asses inside is nice.
  21. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) I totallly forgot Mr. Chicago, Sherron Collins..He is going to be so so good. Relaford just transferred high schools, should fit in nicely at KU haha Those CPL guys are never a sure thing, but Collins is pretty damn close. However I predict Collins struggles as a freshman, he has through the roof raw talent and no discipline, and Self HATES guys like that. As he gets into the flow though, he will be quite a player. Sucks that the CPL coaches hate Bruce, although it's definitely not his fault, so I can't really blame him.
  22. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) I am just as excited about Cole Alrdich, and probably Travis Relaford. Aldrich is scary good, Josh McRoberts like raw ability, although white guys always make me nervous as a basketball fan. Relaford is a lock to KU though, and he's a lights out guaranteed stud.

  24. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) Jamar Smith and Chester Frazier do not scare me in a backcourt and Pruit and whoever else they have down low is not at all scary. Dont put all your eggs in the eric gordon basket. Every play goes thru Dee Brown, and withouth him on the floor, this team is just good. Watching the games is always a good idea, although as a KU fan, I understand why you wouldn't. Frazier runs the point much better than Dee Brown does (yes I know that will get me flamed among Illini nation, but it's true). Chester can't shoot at all, and hopefully he works on that, but he runs the show at point VERY well, and Dee's best play this year has been when he slides off the ball and Chet runs the point. Jamar Smith is still 53 percent from beyond the arc, and improving defensively (although he needs to diversify his offensive game). Shaun Pruitt's biggest problem is we don't give him the damn ball NEARLY enough, but that's a different argument. I have no concern about the future, it may take a few years to get Final Four good again, but we will compete for the Big Ten every year as long as Bruce is around. And if you have ever seen Eric Gordon, you understand why I'm so excited about him.
  25. I'm surprised it took this long for a Kansas vs. Illni flame to break out. I think it's pretty well proven that Weber can coach in games very well, and that Self can recruit very well. After that, things get a bit interesting...however I think Weber with guys like Carlwell and Gordon has shown the recruiting aspect of him is improving, and Self is beginning to show some signs of life by letting his team actually run. Interesting to say the least.
