After watching Duke and Gonzaga pretty much win by accident the last 2 nights, I am standing by what I said which is neither of them is going to survive the 1st weekend of the dance. Duke played SEVEN guys tonight, and 3 of the 7 had 6, 0, and 2 points. That lack of depth is going to kill them when they play a team that has somebody that can hold Gay J under 35 and they aren't getting the ACC homer refs who let Shelden do whatever he wants. And that Gonzaga team is Duke West, 2 great players who get all the calls, no defense, no depth. I can't wait when everybody is shocked how early they are out, but don't say I didn't warn you. Oh, and really cool to see Southern Illinois get that big win tonight, that program Bruce built there is nice and I REALLY like Chris Lowery. Plus, that group of players they have is a group of likeable guys too, I love Mullins and honestly thought he was the better of the 2 cracker senior guard prospects last year (Mullins and Frasor). I like Tatum as well, and Randal Falker is just the coolest name you are going to find anywhere. -
Red Sox preparing to make offer to Roger Clemens

I hope he signs with Boston, would just prove what we knew all along, his "I want to go back to Texas to play and be with my kids" s*** was just that, a bunch of s***. What a loser, I can't wait to b**** slap him when we see him pitching for whatever team he ends up with. -
Well I agree obsessing over the Cubs is no longer necessary (although it never was) but some of that s*** is just priceless!!

IMO, officiating in football is bad because the refs are all f***ed up, using instant replay as a crutch rather than trying to just make the right call. Basketball refs are so bad simply because the players are so big, strong, and athletic that the refs just can't keep up. Just my $0.02. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) They could have the best catching tandem in baseball with Molina and Zaun. Your clearly forgetting about AJ the menace and Widgermania when you say that. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) Fantastic move imo. Bengie is the best defensive catcher in the al, is fantastic at handling a pitching staff, and is a terrific clutch hitter. I'm a huge fan of Molina and think this move could payoff big time for the jays. Agreed, amazed he lasted on the market this long. Plus, his speed is a real asset for the Jays, he turns singles into doubles, goes from 1st to 3rd, and scores from 2nd on singles with ease. -

I'll say Villanova and UConn split those 2 games, and at WVU could be tough, but I see UConn winning all the others games. They are still a #1 lock IMO, but damn the Big East is good. -

That park in Toronto is a VERY underrated hitters park, he will put up good numbers there. I thought Toronto way overpaid to get some of their other new players this offseason, but this deal is a very fair one for them. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) Speaking of nova, I'll throw out an interesting topic: Curtis Sumpter. What do you guys think he's going to do and what do you think he should do? Kinda reminds me of the Brian Randle situation last year. He could have played in the BTT and the NCAA Tourney, but chose to redshirt instead. I don't think it turned out to matter as he couldn't have guarded May in the title game, but it very well could have cost us that he took the medical redshirt. If i'm Sumpter, I redshirt and come back healthy next year to try and be a 1st round pick. But Villanova REALLY needs another guy that can play inside, so he would REALLY help them. It's an interesting situation to say the least. -

I agree with UConn and Duke as #1 locks. I also think Texas may get a one. To be honest, I think Villanova has a very good shot at a 1 seed as well. If it comes down to Memphis and Gonzaga for that 4th #1 seed though, IMO Gonzaga gets it. Both play in pretty weak leagues, and although Memphis beat Gonzaga, it was a close game in Memphis and I dunno, I just think the committee really wants to make Gonzaga a 1. Plus, I see Memphis losing a game or two more due to a lack of focus and the fact that CUSA has a couple DECENT teams at least, unlike the WCC. -

The game I CAN'T WAIT to see is a week from today. Next Monday, Villanova hosts UConn, and for my money those are by far the 2 best teams I've seen this year. Villanova's imposing group of guards vs. UConn's imposing group of front line players will be great to watch. -

Gonzaga doesn't deserve a 1, I agree Rowand. But they aren't going to lose in that weak ass league, and with the weak landscape overall this year, I like their chances to get a 1. And also, Gonzaga is really turning into Duke west with their fans and the refs in their league, I used to think they were cute but now it's annoying. And at least Duke plays tough teams in their league. -

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) I totally agree. Plus JJ is a choke master in the NCAA tourney. Plus Shelden Williams can't defend without fouling, which goes back to my refs comment. Plus, Duke's guards are all slow and white. I really could go on all day here, but Duke and Gonzaga are both going to get #1 seeds and neither will go very far. -

I would have had no problem with Illinois not being in the top 25 this week, they don't deserve it. I am so pissed at them, even with the week off I may be too pissed to watch the next game. -
Interesting story on Derek Jeter's defense
whitesoxfan101 replied to Kyyle23's topic in The Diamond Club
I find it interesting, except the fact that he defense DOES look bad to the naked eye. He has a weak arm and bad range, which is a bad combo. His gold gloves are frauds that he wins because he catches everything he DOES get to and he plays in NY, it's such a joke. -

I give the media credit, I have heard the words "horrible officiating" and "fix" A LOT more than I thought I would today. That game was VERY suspecious and I'm glad people are talking about it. -

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) You arent replacing Tirico over Patrick, you are replacing Tirico over Al Michaels, Kornheiser and Theisman replacing Madden. Personally I think the 3 man team is a bit much, too many people tripping over each others sentences. Yeah good point, I was just thinking ESPN and ESPN rather than the games being on Monday. Who is going to do the Sunday games on NBC (right?) Do they know yet? -
Last movie I saw the girl from Alex Mack in was that movie where she couldn't date and her sister was Julia Stiles. I don't remember the name of it though because it was a chick flick and I only saw it because I liked a girl that wanted to see it. Haha, I think that was in like 2002. But yeah, between the girl from Alex Mack and Dina from "Salute your Shorts" in that bikini in the one episode, I first discovered the greatness of the female gender.

The quality of play is the worst I've ever seen in a Super Bowl. The game itself was ok in terms of not being a blowout, but both teams played horrible all game, and Pittsburgh prevailed due to being a bit less horrible and getting a couple calls, as well as making 2 big plays.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) So you are going to be happy with Mike Tirico, Joe Theisman, and Tony Kornheiser? Tirico is a tenfold improvement over Patrick, Theisman is bleh, and Kornheiser can't be worse than McGuire. So to answer your question, I won't be happy with those 3, but it's a start and a MAJOR improvement over the last crew on ESPN. -

Great point by Balta, extending your arm doesn't automatically mean you pushed off like so many think. The arm was extended by Jackson, but he didn't push AT ALL, therefore IMO was a very bad call. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) If I had to point to 1 game in my lifetime that I thought was rigged...it's not this one, it's not even NFL. It's that game 6 between the Lakers and the Kings a few years ago, in like 01 or whatever year it was. Playing in Sacto, Sacramento plays a good game overall, but the Lakers win basically because the Kings had like 3-4 times as many fouls called on them as the Lakers, thus giving the NBA exactly what it would have wanted...the game 7 between the 2 best teams. I will probably go to my grave saying that the NBA told it's refs to make sure there was a game 7, and any time there is a game officiated so badly that people ask if it could have been rigged, I'll point to that game as the most obvious example ever. Yeah I agree there man, I thought it was rigged too. But I forgot about that because IMO the Kings CHOKED game 7 away at home, and they got what they deserved. Also, don't forget, it would be SO EASY for the NFL to rig a game, since every game is close, poorly played overall, and has bad refs anyways. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Roughly $2.2 billion was estimated before the game to have been changing hands today through gambling nationwide. Had the Refs given the Steelers that Hasselbeck fumble...Hell I might have been agreeing that the game was rigged. I just think they did a horrific job and made 2 bad calls at the worst possible time for the Seahawks, and made almost no bad calls that went against the Steelers. These things seem to happen...the Refs were pretty bad in the Pats/Broncos game, pretty bad in the Steelers/Colts game, etc. Sometimes you just get a bad year. At least they got the coin toss right. Good points. Also, the NFL is the one league arrogant enough to fix a game IMO with their holier than thou attitude about their "great league" and it's popularity, fueled by gambling. Plus, the NFL seems to always cater to the popular teams (see: coin toss) and all that money changing hands just is too damn tempting to not try and mess with.
