  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) Hip Hop usually dissapoints live......for me anyway. They were good at this festival however. bmags is wrong!
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) You have [./quote] in all of them. Remove the period.I really don't think I do. I don't see any periods inside the brackets.
  3. Can someone look at the below post and tell me wtf's wrong with my quoting? my eyesore of a post
  4. I love Louis CK, and I admit I LOLed a few times during episode 1. It has potential for sure, so I will give it a chizzance.
  5. * Favourite Sons - boring typical New york band. but pleasant pop songs. Not so boring...just boring in that they are like band # 5400 with the same f'n s'nd. * I was walking down to Taco Bell while these guys were playing but I liked 'em. Sounded like classic-era Echo. * Erase Errata - horrible. Female punk has been done much better and by better lookin women. THEY HAVE A KNIIIFE * I was in Taco Bell witnessing drama and stuffing myself while these ladies were playing but I have friends who like em. * 90 Day men - not a festival group but had some pretty impressive moments. But it was beautiful and sunny and i didn't feel like their dark s***. * Believe it or not I'd never seen these guys. I'd heard they were more mathy. I liked the instrumental stuff but the vocals I could have edone without. * Devin the Dude - just when you thought he couldn't possibly have another song about weed, he did it. f***in A! Funny moment when he started singing james taylor...and you thought it would bust into something else but nope...until he finally said "my bad that was james taylor"...Probably the least impressive live rapper at the concert next to dead prez (though for diff reasons)... * I thought he was mad funny actually, like an underground Snoop. I liked that he wasn't yellin' at all. * Jose Gonzales - Fantastic. * Agreed. Though I wasn't up close enough. * Chromeo - pretty good and dancey dance. * This is one of those acts that I should be like my other friends and be "over", but for my money they craft good tunes, both songwise and production. I liked Pee Thug's constant hat changing. * High on Fire - metal. Avg. metal. Had classic metal lyrics without getting cheesy and a nice curveball to the day but i just was too tired to pay attention. * I was far away but they sounded rockin' * The stills - i never really listened to them before, and i thought i might like them. But i didn't...but i was kind of far and at intonATION if you aren't in front you don't get good sound... * Yeah from far away they were boring as s__t. * Roky erickson - i thought this would be great...but then...it really wasn't. He sounded old...13th floor elevators ROLL OVER IN GRAVES... * Before my time so I reserved judgement. * The Boredoms * My fiancee was into them in her noise days but never plays em at home. I thuoght they were amazing at firstbut then it all got kinda samey. But I imagine if I'd stayed up front I would have dug it the whole time. * Ghostface * I had low expectations just cause of how NY hip hop acts usually are so I thought it was good. Like you said good energy. If you knew the songs it was real good, but if you didn't, probably just sounded like a lot of yelling and not-loud-enough beats. * Lady Sovereign - pleasantly suprised! I have her album and while its fun once in a while it didn't hold me but live her attitude catches in and her lyrics take a whole new turn. * She rocked it, and the beats sounded great. * The streets - So great. * Wow. I just don't get the appeal of this guy. Clearly talented, but comes off as a smug prick on stage IMO. Definitely a love it or hate it thing. * the constantines :f***ing great...just as good as columbia. * I've been bored by them in the past but I thought they did sound great. at the festival. * Rhymefest - SO great. God i hope his new album sells. * Great show I agree. However his freestyle was really only a couple minutes (I video'd it on my phone ). I think the beats are really solid (Dynomite is a banger in particular), but you're probably right about the choruses. The lttle lady copped his and Lupe's promo posters outside. Yee ha. * Lupe Fiasco -Failure was just fantastic live. He was funny, and seems more relaxed about his album leaking now. * Funny story. When he asked the crowd "How many of y'all have heard the album?" and my girl cheered loudly. Thing was, of course, that was a trick question, and when I told ol girl she was very embarrassed. What she thought was the album that I've been bumping around the crib is actually this , which I have a legit copy of thank you very much. Is "Kick Push" really as big a hit as he was implying? Just curious. Very entertaining set with the skateboarding and the jokes and whatnot (though Rhymefest's quip about "Kanye's not gonna come out on stage") was the funniest. * The sword-bleh. Had a great hot dog during their set. * I thought they sounded good from afar. * Dead prez...sigh. SIGH. they played their new "hey were clubbing" bulls*** songs and when they weren't doing that...they were talking for 15 goddamn minutes...i left early to go wait for bloc party...rubbish. f***in rubbish. They could have been special. * See I stayed and I thought they were great. They talked some but for this old fart not too long, and all the new songs, even though the beats mighta been club friendly were still hard hitting lyrically. They had the white crowd yelling "reparations!" for God's sake. I went nuts for "Hip Hop" of course but all their songs killed it IMO. * Bloc Party * I'm not a huge fan but they seemed like they did their "edgy Coldplay" thing well. We went to Margie's in the middle of their set. For some reason I can't get the quoting on this post to display properly so I apologize for this eyesore of a post. If anyone can tell me wtf I'm doing wrong... Anyone got a Pitchfork pass for sale?
  6. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) Wow. I can't believe you just asked that. Next time check the box score to save yourself from embarassment. You're mean.
  7. It's very hard to predict the perfofrmance of bullpen pitchers from one year to the next. Almost all of them are very inconsistent. vizcaino and marte were crap for most of last year.
  8. Damn new Junior Boys. Sweet. Did the first one ever come out domestic?
  9. Is "Jiambi" a joke I missed or is dude just dyslexic?
  10. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Well yeah, if it were up to me nobody would want to go and nobody would have to play, as I think the ASG is a joke. However, for the guys that haven't been there before like Crede and my avatar over there, I bet they'd love the recognition. Seems like we agree. How boring.
  11. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) We're going to have to break bank to retain him beyond 08' as it is. Just remember when negotiations begin and Boras begins throwing out statements such as "my client is an all-star and gold glove winning third basemen....." It serves only as leverage for him.To deny a guy his possibly only shot at playing in the All-Star game, which he's probably dreamed of since he was a kid will do a lot to sabotage the team's position in these offseason contract talks of which you speak. If Ozzie feels he deserves to go but denies him a spot cause of these concerns, well, that will be just cruel and IMO counterproductive wrt:retaining him on the ballclub.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Who gives a rats ass. If you are counting the number of stories per paper daily, you either need a woman, or need a hobby.
  13. Hey bmags and others that are into underground hip-hop there's a real good mixtape available for free legit DL at http://www.mixinginaction.net. Check it out.
  14. You don't speak for "us", Nuke.
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 11, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) Awesome! My favorite pitcher Kelvim Escobar is pitching tonight!I do not blame Kelvim. I blame the umps for differentially warning and not ejecting players. I really do not belong in your club.
  16. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 10, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Right, which is the ultimate point here: f*** a Cy Young AwardGot-damn right! I would extend that to any and all individual awards. Except the Rolaids Relief award. That's huge.
  17. Why not bike to the gym? A good warmup/cooldown
  18. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ May 1, 2006 -> 07:05 AM) That was some amazingly big balls by Colbert to go do that kind of humor at the White House. So much nervous laughter. It was classic. You guys are starting to scare me with this fixation on testes.
  19. QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) and sti3, yeah i'm gonna go too, i'm really excited for Jose Gonzales, lupe fiasco, the cons, the streets, and bloc party. Wanna hear some panthers and others. The sSTills are alright too i guess.LOL I heard of Jose Gonzalez 4 days ago because i was reading up on The Knife and he covered "Heartbeats" for a hit in Sweden. DLed his album and I think I like it. And I don't get why The Knife isn't bigger. If you need someone to buy you a beer at Intonations I'll hook you up.
  20. Wow Three 6. Cool that they put on a good show. As for Chicago bars/clubs, they're all 21+ except for big concerts at more theatre-like venues, e.g. Metro Riviera etc. Sorry. So excited about the Intonation Festival. Couple great Chicago rappers performing in Lupe Fiasco and Rhymefest, and Kano from the UK should be wicked.
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 06:34 PM) Eat fecal matter California Angels! And we did it with a bunch of scrubs on the field. Take that Ozzie bashers!
  22. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) Do you ever go to Smart Bar on Sunday nights? What kind of stuff is Scott Lucas spinnin' lately? Going out on a school night? What am I, a waiter? Seriously though, no. I only go out on Sunday if I have Monday off or if it's something SUPER special. I don't even know who Scott Lucas is, sorry.
  23. QUOTE(bmags @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 12:14 AM) but cool, i'm still feeling around through electronic stuff but its cool to know someone with more knowledge...keep me informed on good stuff. If you're in Chicago and old enough Smart Bar has a ton of minimal events. Lots of Kompakt artists rolling through. One CD you can probably get used for $5 which I think is an underrated gem is Miss Kittin's Radio Caroline mix.
