  1. Nice to know what's going on in Cowley's mind these days It's hilarious but Rowand would come here and leadoff. He'd pretty much be the Coco Crisp everyone wants up there, but better at it.
  2. Are you talking about 'swing looked better' or as you put it 'performance' b/c regarding the latter, when Brian does get an extended look, I dont know if there's discernible improvement. Actually had 89 at-bats from May thru June last year... 18 for 89. Whereas towards the end of the year, his obp actually went up when he was getting more sparse at-bats. game log http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/game...6&year=2008
  3. Macdougal "let him hit someone" as if he's capable of that kind of location
  4. Tigers gave up a guy who throws 94, right? I doubt KW would want to give up something right now that he could later package with Poreda to bring in a real player.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) PUT THIS GAME ON THE DEFENSE, COMPLETELY. JD gets to that shank down the RF line, and Josh completes the double play, it's still 0-0 and we're in it, although with Galarraga our offense might need 18 innings to score. i dont know if i'd use the word 'completely' the Dye thing was annoying but I'm not sure Quentin gets to that either, one of those will be our RF for the forseeable future so we have to live w/ that
  6. This team built for offense cannot keep doing this to me with 0-run performances.
  7. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) It's like no one on this board notices Wise and Owens can't hit, either... until we find a "legit" CF/leadoff hitter BA should be out there, period. Oh, typical. Jose pitches pretty wlel all game and as usual we miss offensive opportunities. That's what we get for scoring 10 the other day, I suppose. The one issue I have is BA supporters say all he needs is consistent at-bats. Who's to say Wise also couldnt use consistent at-bats and make improvement? Some guys figure something out about hitting at 30. He hasnt had the regular at-bats at the major league level that Brian did. Granted, Wise didnt rake in the minors and never deserved it. But if he did something in the clutch last year for a playoff team, why not an extended look. I only say this b/c the options are so dim. Unfortunately now we wont know. But I just dont get how people will complain about lack of consistent at-bats for their own guy, as if he's the only one who could ever improve that way.
  8. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) So does Wise, and he was given a shot. So does Owens, and he has been given chances. It always seems like BA is last to play, and only if absolutely necessary (Wise injury, Owens sucking in AAA). I just want him to be given a chance like everyone else, because he definitely plays the best D out of the bunch. Owens has 380 career at-bats, Anderson has 600. Owens is older. Everyone knows Anderson was the higher ceiling prospect than the track star. Owens wasnt even played in meaningful games with any regularity. Brian was. I'm all for Brian playing more. As far as Wise, people who say Brian earns it each spring have to hand it to Wise who earned it in the Spring. If that doesnt come into play, then we're looking at Wise vs. BA: two guys who have a career or not hitting. I just cant see the conspiracy against BA.
  9. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Now I see Ozzie having an excuse for playing Owens or Pods. Strikeout in a big situation. It seems anything is enough in Ozzie's mind when it comes to not giving BA chances. We're already talking as if it's Owens and Pods who have been playing this whole time. BA and Wise were chosen. Lets not strike pre-emptively here
  10. Stoney and Beckett have something in that they aim for behind the Left shoulder, just different people Great play. Josh looks great this year at the plate.
  11. I dont think most fans care at the present time. The only way of course that will happen is if the players have some spat over it. I doubt it happens, Pods has a lot to prove and wont want to rock the boat. Do we know if he cares about the #? I see he had it with Colorado
  12. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) The Nats don't want to trade Milledge. Obviously for the right price they would, but I have been hearing this is more an attempt at a wake up calll for Lastings to get his act together. They have so many holes that maybe they accept two young players. What would be a 'reasonable overpay' from our end, if that makes sense. A deal where we give up too much, but at the end of the day we're like "hey we got a CF leadoff hitter, this is what it took" Egbert as part of it? Wow, Charlotte pitching is almost all atrocious here in the earlygoing.
  13. If Pods is seen to be real slow in Charlotte though, he'll stay down there. At absolute worst they would prefer Owens as a pinch runner if no one can do anything. Although I guess Lillibridge covers that for them when Getz returns. Maybe Pods could be a 4th OF but if so they better make sure BL can play centerfield
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) Wow, Michael Kay is an even bigger jackass then i thought. http://subwaysquawkers.blogspot.com/2009/0...her-is-not.html Seriously. God forbid anyone in the MLB has actual fun while they're out there. Them coming back at Swisher with a pitch inside the next day is total crap seeing as how they had the huge lead when he was out there. I'm glad he stuck it back to em with a HR to follow.
  15. Dobrow's Power Rankings on CBSsports (which I found about on the Score yesterday, they're great)..... indicates he's below average as a CF
  16. Of those who feel Brian hasnt been given a fair chance, do you feel like he would be able to turn it around this year with a full year? Someone who was posting about this seemed to be hinting that Brian's developmental time has been ruined and now b/c the Sox ruined him, he will never be able to turn it around.
  17. These boards could get really interesting if Beckham tears up the minors the whole first half. The debate will come down to arb clock savings vs. winning now and in addition to maybe winning now, Beckham would get to know AL pitching this year as opposed to on the job next yr.
  18. It's amazing how Ozzie really does read those emails. We keep getting evidence of this. Joe Cowley was saying the other day on the Score that Ozzie sometimes prints out the emails and laughs w/ media people at the proposed lineups he's sent.
  19. Under that circumstance, Fields would be giving up his number to a leadoff guy with a career .337 OBP I know thats not all that goes into it, but just looking at it that way would make it one of the more embarassing number-give-ups of all time.
  20. Pods hit .264/.340 vs. righties last year if it wasnt mentioned already
