  1. Ben has already turned down great deals two straight years. With those two refusals, they went out this year and covered their bases by getting Salmons and Miller. Taking on Miller meant eating up all the flexibility for next year. The only possibility perhaps is saving some money by Jerome James' contract being insurance paid. And maybe a Hinrich trade can reduce year one payroll. Or someone else could go in a trade. But it probably cant be reduced enough to avoid the luxury tax, which JR does not like paying. Maybe he'd agree to pay it for one year though if Ben signs at a discount. Not too many teams will have money to spend.
  2. Nicely done Jose. Nothing hit hard.
  3. I'm as harsh a critic of Brian as can be, and yet if he wants to keep taking walks and slapping singles... while bringing that CF defense, great. I dont need more extra base power on the team. Lillibridge I just want as utility for right now. What I do fear though is that BA's getting an abnormal amount of first pitch balls for some reason, and when the league adjusts his OBP will revert. Very much hope that fear does not come to be.
  4. Kaplan at least knows some stuff. North starts going on and on about things he doesnt know.
  5. The day Swisher did his solo-back-bump after a homer, it was kinda weird because that moment usually is immediately followed by everyone joking around, but it just remained awkward
  6. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) As a Mexican-American,I do know spanish but I have cousins who know very little or no spanish at all,it's not that uncommon. Loaiza being from Tijuana one would think he'd be even more understanding of that fact than someone who had a strictly Spanish speaking upbringing.
  7. Whatever the heck happened to Floyd in his start before this one...it apparently came time for that to happen to a few TB guys. Sounds good - will be interested to see how good Baltimore has become. They figure to have an interesting team this yr.
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) I think his parents are from Mexico. Loiza was all bent out of shape about it I beleive. funny cause i got really bent out of shape about....esteban loaiza
  9. i remember reading that teammates at all levels have gotten on Quentin for being named Carlos but knowing no spanish
  10. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) How did he get up there???? Also, I do not think he speaks English. either does half the team, semi-green
  11. jeff cox now talking with bartolo colon threat over

  14. back to back HRs CQ, Thome
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Where was this in the 2008 ALDS? I might get ripped for this but I think it goes to show what's happening when all your top flight pitchers can go all out. Not to say Garza and Kazmir are holding back but I think when everything's ratcheted up a notch in the playoffs, you see true talent shine.
  16. 08 all over again. We'll put 8 on you or zero. It's fun. maybe Beckham changes the offensive culture here when he comes up. Imagine this kind of output with him up in the order
  17. Also Garza went to the dugout and started yelling all over the place
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Can someone elaborate on what happened and what is currently going on? BA hit a nubber to Garza, it ricocheted off the glove so he had to scramble to make a throw to first. Threw it away, run scored. Then Getz solidly singled in two more.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) That was definitely a FO at 2nd and maybe even a double play...BA fortunate that Garza misplayed it and then compounded it with the wild throw. Still, we'll take it. And with Anderson running, it helped cause the wild throw. there were already 2 outs
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) He does that all the time though, I half-expected him to start going "STRETCH!" Boers and Bernstein occasionally play this clip of Hawk going: "STRETCH -HE- NO!!!"
  21. Wilson making us miss Uribe? thats JU level right there with the bat
  22. my Twins-fan friend refers to Garza as 'their nuke laloosh' formerly that is
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Ugh Hawk, Konerko did not hit that ball that hard, got me excited for no reason. But a sac fly is good too. i think it's one of those things where Hawk just knew instantly that it was a run at the very least
  24. nice to see the situational
  25. JD! have a day in front of the folks
