  1. Ah ok, not sure where i thought i had heard that about rongey Still though, lets get a sox fan in there.
  2. Currently listening to Chris Rongey on radio and watching Dan Roan on TV..... lock thread if i'm wrong on this, but isnt it true that they're both Cub fans? sure CPS is underfunded on the southside but c'mon !
  3. QUOTE (The Bones @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) I don't mind the idea that he can get hot. He obviously can. But he can also go cold for long stretches as well. My problem is him batting leadoff is not what is best for the team. We have multiple better options right now and DeWayne Wise should not be getting the most ABs of anyone on this team. If you want to start him put him in the 9 spot. Uribe's bat could get hot but he was never the leadoff man. Agreed. I think difference being that with Wise there's a chance he can turn singles into doubles with basestealing. Uribe wont do that. Obviously what remains to be seen is if he can get on first enough for that to matter. In the end I think he'll be in the 9-slot but I guess what's infuriating people most here is the sneaking suspicion that Ozzie doesnt even know his own guys OBPs.
  4. QUOTE (ChesterCopperpot @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) We need some Wise lovers on this board. It's a bit boring hearing everyone bash the guy over and over. I plan on filling that void with my unbridled love for Moses. 2/4 2 runs and a SB tonight. I love you DE WAYNE! I'm all for Wise. I like the idea of a bat that can get hot, as he seemed to at times last year. I think that's a more valuable trait than our other options at the position.
  5. Whoopsy. Hmm, well I wonder what other names are out there - CFs who can hit a ton and are nearing a payday. Anyone help?
  6. I think what no one's saying is that Getz has been earmarked to leadoff for this team, but they want to ease him into the majors with a less pressure filled spot than leadoff. At least for a bit. In fact we learned from Wise's ST interview that they pretty much told him as much. I'm not so much disgusted by Wise being up there as I really think the organization has to think long and hard about how underutilized they may be leaving Alexei R. As another poster pointed out, while we have no true 2-hitter (if Getz is up in 1)........... Alexei at least cuts down on K's and can put it in play. As we stand, 8 and 9 might be two of the best bats in the lineup... by the time we find out which of the older core guys are deteriorating... it may be too late. We may have lost some games and fallen behind due to waiting for aging sluggers to come around. Alexei needs to be put in a place where he can make an impact. It's really weird, what we're doing right now is saying "hey we have no proven 1-2 hitters, so we'll let hitters 3-9 do what 1-7 should be doing." Which means you're kicking away atbats each game up top.
  7. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) How long before ARam to CF and Beckham to SS?? What gets really interesting is if ARam is excellent defensively at SS.....and Getz becomes a Theriot type in the lineup. Then you get into an odd place. Would the team actually think about moving Beckham, perhaps for a B.J. Upton type, someone developed who can play CF? I'm thinking it'd have to be someone nearing steeper arb prices. Some team would perhaps throw in pitching as well for Beckham, perhaps out of a need to save $ in the current climate. I'm trying to think of near-star level guys who are due for bigger and bigger raises soon.... isnt Baltimore having trouble with getting Markakis on something long term?
  8. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) I dont like Wise, and call me crazy, but I think he is going to have a good game. What's bad is some Sox fans will root against him. They see all this upside to getting BA in their quicker, so much so that they're willing to risk some wins for it.
  9. While the team's obviously not high on Broadway, they probably still want to gauge the possibility of Beckham to SS and Alexei to CF as a fallback plan if the offense is solid but not excellent come the 2nd half of the year. And obviously that's predicated on Beckham tearing it up and leaving no doubt at AA That's the only explanation I can make for why they didnt do some lateral move to get a halfway decent CF in here. b/c yeah, it's a hole and they shouldve filled it. It could have been done cheaply.
  10. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) Whoa - Lawrence Arms - one of my good friends was semi-roadie for them way back when I think there's a lot of overreaction here to Game 1. People reflect on Wise's career stats, but the whole point is there's a guy here with some speed who actually had a nicer Spring than he's used to having....and he has had a nicer 12 months or so than he's ever used to having. So there's a chance he has figured something out late in his career. Maybe the chance isnt huge, but it's worth exploring over all our other options. People talk up Brian like he's been robbed, but in truth it's a situation where both players had nice springs, but the slot that has to be filled here is a guy with speed. Brian can't take second base like Wise. Ozzie's thinking has to be - if Wise works, this has a chance at being a great offense. If Brian works, we have a #9 hitter, and improved defense. The upside of that first option is too good to not take an early season look at. You can always put Brian there but you have to find out if there's an on-roster leadoff guy first. Yesterday was one game and I think a lot of vocal Sox fans at the park yesterday embarassed themselves. Beyond all that though, booing's totally pointless. Football fans can change a game by being vocal. In baseball, what happened yesterday during each at-bat was either having zero effect, or it made the home team player more self-conscious and thus worse. But yea it's a great idea.
  11. Imagine all the pressure KWJr. has being the boss' son. Not so much from fans down there but from the teammates.
  12. It should be interesting to see if Ozzie uses Alexei up in the lineup against lefties at all this yr.
  13. How do we evaluate AJ's year in the 2-hole last yr? Did he sacrifice stats to help us out, or were his numbers just lower b/c of decreased production
  14. to keep it L-R up top, people are saying Alexei I dunno though, there's not enough bat control to me there. He has shown he can do stuff like the semi-butcherboy deal he last year..... but overall he's better hacking. Thats just the way he's meant to be effective as a major leaguer.
  15. Do we really need to make a thread like this after one game? Most people want Getz in first and Wise or BA in 9th. Slamming the guy nonstop however has the unintended effect of absolving others of their mistakes today, which lets face it were dumber than just striking out against a good pitcher.
  16. Wise is just a lot more comfortable lower in the order. It was that way last year too. A career minor leaguer, while having his first ML success, is still not going to be used to this level of pressure. If anything he's used to having the opposite of it.
  17. Wise might have been attacked if that was caught. e-attacked, here, anyway.
  18. I know Viciedo has been known to have some weight issues at times, but hows he run?
  19. Daley looked really happy just then b/c he thought of some more souls to crush at that very moment
  20. Even if the three strikeouts arent indicative of all Wise is, it at least hopefully tells Ozzie he should be in the 9 slot.
