  1. Passan now clarifying -- he has nothing, actually: https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/685505690752819200
  2. Dan McIntyre ‏@dmcintyre1991 4m4 minutes ago Rosenthal on MLB network says Sox still likely to get big OF and Desmond and Alexei still possibilities at SS. This offseason is slow
  3. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) really hurts the Sox by driving the market higher. It helps the Sox by removing an OF buyer.
  4. Passan broke the Montas news, remember: Tim McKernan ‏@tmckernan 19m19 minutes ago From @JeffPassan: I hear Upton is going to sign for 1 year. If that's the case, there's absolutely no downside to doing a 1 year deal.
  5. i was once in a realgm Amare Stoudemire trade thread that went 400 pages or so and ended with no Bulls trade happening at all.
  6. Maybe this is a stupid question but if Cespedes and Upton couldnt get jobs til almost mid-January...wouldnt the Royals just sign one of those two guys instead? Keep the champ window open longer, perhaps?
  7. Why trade for a LaRoche when you can just sign Chris Carter for that. No wonder we had zero takers leaguewide
  8. Fantastic to see this: https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/684847253022982144
  9. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 8s8 seconds ago Theres' been contact between O's & Justin Upton's camp. Matchup makes sense, especially if he goes Nelson Cruz route and takes 1-year deal.
  10. Merkin's article seems very grounded in fact, by the way. We are pushing other teams to spend, and then we'll swoop when something is in our parameters. That seems like a perfect way of putting it.
  11. Great stuff in here http://m.mlb.com/news/article/161178212/wh...th-gordon-in-kc
  12. Alexei might give you Desmond's 2016 numbers at a fraction of the cost. Fowler provides OBP and at least is something ok from the left side. Those are needs for us.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) But all they did was make the team better without giving up much. They do not need to be in win now mode if they determine the contract isn't worth it. That is how they get stuck in average to below average teams. sign the players ONLY if they contract and value make sense. Don't go way over their determined value just because it's a need this year. They made their decision with Gordon that a 4th year was too much. They have a value on Cepedes and they need to stick to it. If he signs good, if not move on to the next option that will make the team better but not sacrifice the future. To me Trayce was a starting outfielder on a long team-friendly commitment, so I think of the Frazier move (a guy here for two years only) as very win-now. But that's me. Montas i can understand if people are meh on.
  14. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) Watch Hahn surprise everyone and trade for CarGo. Good call. lefty bat too. It's not crazy. Something is holding up everything and it might actually be (in part) us. With this chasing Gordon thing (also a lefty bat)
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) Why? It isn't a win now year. If anything, the sox get Danks and LaRoche off the books next year so they will have more salary room. This could be the building year for following year. It could be a win now year but it doesn't need to be if the price becomes outrageous. I do agree with this. '17 could have Fulmer too. But we are win-now in the sense that we ...aren't ....win-later. If that were the case we'd still have all those young guys we just traded away. The Sale/Abreu window necessitates that.
  16. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) The win now players are Cespedes and Upton. Not Dexter Fowler. Who's been playing some Avi Garcia defense the past few years. Those are the win-now players but to get them we cant have anyone get into the bidding. If Gordon took 4 years from KC and we werent offering more than 3, that means we arent the only bidder. If a big spender is bidding, we arent getting Cespedes or Upton, point blank. We will give it our attempt i'm sure, so that would be nice if we get a surprise. Fowler or Parra make sense because we still have holes elsewhere, and the Sox usually are right around here salary wise, arent they? We dont differ tons year to year. Fowler would give us much needed OBP-- would be a lefty bat too, and his career numbers from that side are fine (though not his preferred side). We need more of that too-- not just RH star slugger power
  17. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) Giving up a draft pick for Dexter Fowler would be monumentally stupid IMO. But it's a win-now year. The draft pick could cause his average annual salary to go down too (and it's not our best pick either)
  18. This guy below isnt a source but he is along my way of thinking. I feel like they are pushing the Royals to spend...now they'll push someone else to spend........and then when the big names are off the board, they'll have a three year deal with a Dex Fowler or Gerardo Parra or something, which will leave enough money to bring back Alexei and be holeless. I may be crazy but I think that's the plan. To have a nice deal on a RF and maybe an Ian Desmond instead of Alexei--- it might actually be more total value than just Cespedes, who has only had one outstanding year ever James Fegan ‏@JRFegan 4m4 minutes ago The crowded OF market could allow the Sox to get someone good on three years or less, just not Cespedes nor Upton.
  19. Cant help think how signing Yoenis means we'd still have a bad LH bat problem....and we'd be still suffering from a scary OBP problem.
  20. Domino time Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 51s52 seconds ago The outfield market now will start moving, agents believe, starting with Yoenis Cespedes and Justin Upton.
  21. This person has followers. Legit at all? https://twitter.com/royalsclubhouse/status/...564379208003585
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 5, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) For f*ck's sake, players. Sh*t or get off the pot. I am expecting some movement today. Hope it happens for me.
  23. Honestly if the real people cant use twitter properly, i'll take instead some grammatically correct fake accounts
