  1. How in the hell do you know what goes on behind closed doors? How do you know they haven't called a meeting? How do you know PK's not throwing chairs in the locker room?
  2. They haven't quit. All this talk about heart and intensity is just bulls***. This isn't football. They just aren't a very good baseball team.
  3. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) I'd take an average defender that more than makes up for it with his bat, has a great aproach at the plate, and wants to be on a contender, and a underachieving kid *who KW tried to aquire this past trade deadline, because Coop has identified something that Mazone hasnt* ala Matt Thornton, than a slick fielding short stop that was tought he has to hit off the island but can't hit for long periods of time. I'm not saying Uribe's the answer, but with our pitching staff, I'd rather have a slick fielding/speedy SS than Tejada. SS is definitely a position that needs to be upgraded, but Tejada just adds to our problems. Our offense isn't the problem. It's the f***in pitching!!! Cooper can't work magic with everyone. Cabrera = Vazquez without the early success in Montreal. IMO, a move like that take 2 steps backward to make 1 forward.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) I'm sure Ozzie had NOTHING to do with Vazquez getting added only days after the two golfed together. Tejada is on another planet compared to Uribe. Defensively? LOL.
  5. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) thats what im saying, deal Jose + Uribe + Cotts + Gload, to Baltimore, now some here are going to say "beautox your crazy", but the truth is Baltimore doesn't have an "ace" or anyone who can remotely dominate, Chris Benson i think not, they need a 1B, and i come from the school of thought that Gload can put up Mark Grace like numbers 300+ avg 15-20 HRs, Uribe for because they're going to need a SS, and Cotts because of his age, past sucsess, salary, and the fact he is left handed, remember we got David Riske for MILB free agentl Javy Lopez, that speaks highly of how much LOOGYS are in demand, and we also go Rob Mackowiak for Damaso Marte. we get Tejada and Daniel Cabera Awesome! We could really use another average defender and underachieving kid with dominant stuff.
  6. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) Putting Marte on the playoff roster instead of McCarthy was moronic. Ozzie's use of Marte last year was horrendous. He regularly used Marte before Cotts, even though Cotts was one of the best lefty relievers in the game last year. Maybe Cotts numbers were better because he was put in better situations.
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) I kinda hope we don't make the playoffs for a couple of reasons. This team doesn't deserve to make it to the playoffs. And if we do make the playoffs, it will give this organization an excuse not to make any major changes. I never thought I'd say it, but I wouldn't mind not having Thome on the team next year, and having more of a speed and contact oriented team. But that's not gonna happen.
  8. QUOTE(Chisox_fan @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) It's riduculous how much praise Bmac gets when he puts 3 spot on the board. I like the guy as much as everyone else but he should be able to hold it. Thank you. But, hey, it's a prospect's board. Every good prospect is better than the major leaguer ahead of him. Bringing in Garica to start the inning...s***ty Bringing in Cotts...s***ty McCarthy's performance...s***ty At least they're consistant.
  9. Thome's horrible. He sucks. I want Frank back. I want Gload in there.
  10. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) Some believe McCarthy would have pitched better than at least one of the starters. So that's one adjustment Ozzie could have made that would have improved this year's pitching. I understand your point that there's nothing Ozzie could do to improve the performances of his starters, but he could have made adjustments to other facets of the team that would have lead to more victories: starting BA in center more often, Mack in LF, and his poor use of the bullpen and Cotts, Riske and Politte. You can't run Jenks and Thorton out there every day. He had to use Cotts, Riske and Politte. There's really no proof that McCarthy would have been any better than anyone else. It isn't like he's Liriano. I'm a big fan of McCarthy, but he's still an unproven commodity, as a starter. It's not exactly like he played his way into the rotation during the first half. It's not like his stuff is so great that it's a no brainer. Ozzie pitched the guys that have been available to him and they've failed.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) My grandma could have managed last year's team to a good record. Last year, he was more concerned with putting the best defense on the field. This year, it's opposite. Last year, he managed according to his gut. This year, he's all about match-ups. He's always been all about match ups. Come on. It's simple. The pitcher's aren't making big pitches in key situations. The only thing that's really Ozzie's fault is playing Mac. Everything else is the fault of the guys on the field. They suck right now.
  12. Ozzie managed the same way last year. This year the pitching, for the most part, sucks. All of the adjustments in the world aren't going to change that.
  13. Jesus christ. This thread's like the twighlight zone. First somebody says that Uribe's not that good defensively. Then, people actually believe Ozzie's going to be fired.
  14. Watch Jeter come in on a ball. I swear to god he's the slowest SS I've ever seen. It's like he's running through mud.
  15. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) Agree 100%. That's the part of the deal that made me want to puke. I could have gotten over losing Lumsden for MacDougal straight up, but throwing in a prospect like Cortes really makes me sick. I wouldn't be suprised to see Lumsden get a shot with the Royals out of spring training next year, or even as a September call-up this year. Cortes should continue developing into a very nice pitcher as well. We have to hope MacDougal is healthy and pitches well, and in my opinion, only then will we be able to call this deal fair. We weren't on the phone. We don't know what it would have taken. It's not like KW thought, "Oh. What the hell. You guys can have this kid with a live arm for free. I feel like being nice today." From what I saw of Lumsden, I was really impressed. With that said, he still doesn't have the stuff that McDougal has. They've both had arm problems. Once is ready now. The other one isn't. This isn't really that hard to understand.
  16. I didn't expect to win this one anyway. From now on, I'm not going to think about the playoff's. I'm going to treat each game individually. That's the way the team needs to treat them too. It's not effort. They're giving everything they have. They just aren't very good right now.
  17. I see a team that's pressing. On offense, they're not executing because they're setting themselves up for failure. Honestly, the extra bunting and that spiff is a joke. It's not like they're playing bad fundamental baseball because they don't know what they're doing. They're a strong, professional team. They're just not catching the breaks. IMO, they need to relax and have some fun and get this funk out of their system. The only 2 guys that look to me like they're aren't pressing are Anderson and Uribe. It's no coincidence that they're both playing very well. Every team goes through these stretches. Since they're not scoring, every bunting/get em over situation is magnified. Every borderline bad pitch is getting crushed. They'll snap out of it. I just hope it's not too late. On the bright side, there have been bright spots within the pitching. They've only put one solid game together during this stretch, but it's a start. One real positive that I saw from Vazquez is that he got beat on this fastball. I'd much rather see a guy get beat when he's trying to challenge the hitter and attack the zone. It's much better than throwing breaking ball after breaking ball because he's scared of the bat.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) One injury doesn't really mean a history of arm trouble, but I don't think you can assume anything when it comes to prospects but at the same time I can't assume MacDougal will stay healthy when he's had a few different arm problems. It may have been one injury, but it was an elbow problem that kept him out for a year. Hmmm that sounds like MacDougal. I really don't get it. MacDougal's has a lot of major league experience. He has better pure stuff. He isn't a rental. He isn't a 23 year old in AA.
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) You can't assume anything when health and MacDougal are in the same sentence. This is the problem. You can't avoid it. And we gave up our TOP minor league pitcher and another raw arm for this? Where the hell are these deals are our end? I want the equivalent of this deal for Freddy Garcia. I want another general manager to overpay for one of our players. Where's the pseudo Williams out there looking to "win now" and "overpay" for Garcia? I can't believe Williams said he has no intent of trading players currently on the roster. Not that I question the truthfulness of the statement; I simply can't believe he hasn't explored sending off deadweight Garcia onto someone. You can't assume anything when health and Lumsden are in the same sentence. Lumsden has a history of injury problems too. So we gave away a pitcher with nasty stuff, who's a couple years away, for a pitcher with nasty stuff who's ready. What's the big deal?
  20. One Wes Anderson film? That list really does suck.
  21. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 11:50 PM) I just went over to fangraphs to check out his trends, and it's pretty crazy what he's doing right now. Prior to this year, his BB%, P/PA and K/BB had all been trending up, which was very encouraging to us Juan fans and stat heads. Now, they are almost all down. However, his ISO, and FB% are WAY up. He's having an AJ like 2005 almost: lots of fly balls with plenty of HR and doubles, few walks, lower BA and subpar OBP. His BABIB is down, as is his line drive percentage. His ISO is over 2, which is very, very good. If he can start taking soem damn walks, he'll be a damn fine hitter. I don't expect it though, and I'm a big Juan supporter/apoligist. You can't make everyone your perfect SABR hitter. If you take a guy like Uribe and tell him to take more pitches, you ruin the good things he does at the plate. That's why the logic is flawed. Some guys are made to take cuts. Juan's one of them. reason#23498723 that statheads just don't get it.
  22. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) I This is only Javy's second time playing with a winning team, for the good part of career he has played on bad teams. When he starts to realize that the Sox will win games for him as long as he keeps it close, he will start being less hard on himself. This is an excellent point. He has been on teams that weren't able to pick him up. I don't sign the checks. I don't give a s*** how much he gets paid. I'd take him over any other 5th starter in the league, if only for his stuff alone.
  23. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) This is what I'm thinking also. It's probably the most realistic and best situation out there. Although, who's gonna lead off for us once Pods is gone? That could be a potentially big problem in a couple years. Also, another scenario is that Fields plays 1B. I like this situation a lot as well. Thome isn't gettin' any younger, and Paulie could move to DH. We'd have to find a burner to play MIF. It's a good problem to have.
  24. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) He is making a suggestion that he believes would make the team better. Yeah, what a s***ty fan. He also has a well known history of making completely obsessive posts about particular players that are not only negative, but downright creepy. @Shoota... One of your points is that Uribe doesn't work counts? Look at Alex f***in Cintron's numbers. I'm sorry, but a couple big games doesn't make Cintron better. I wish we could ask our pitching staff who they want at short. Finally, the offensive production of your SS (8th hole) isn't nearly as important as his defensive production. Sure, Uribe's had some lapses recently, but he's so much better than Cintron (or most in baseball) that it's not even comparable.
  25. You suck at being a Sox fan. So Uribe's your new Crede? Haven't you noticed we're a defensive team first? Have you noticed that our pitching staff has been lagging with some of the recent defensive troubles? For a guy that sucks at baseball, he sure had a pretty good 04 at the plate. He also lead our team in sacrifices last year and was near the top, in all of baseball, at productive outs. Sure, he's struggling right now. You don't abandon the anchor of your IF defense for a few points in .AVE. Cintron's a UT player for a reason. He's not very good defensively. He can't take a walk to save his life. He has speed but can't steal a base. He's not good enough to oust Uribe.
