  1. QUOTE (ypres @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 12:04 AM) sweet. thanks. All that said, on a good team, I think Greg may be right. Both have a classic utility guy profile if they can't hit much.
  2. QUOTE (ypres @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 12:50 AM) Are Sanchez and Leury for real? Or is this just luck? Both are toolsy guys finally putting it together. Although to be fair their best tool is by far defense, which is much more subtle. The nice thing is when you play a premium defensive position and play it well (Leury is +3 runs in CF, Yolmer +2.5 at 2B, both pass the eye test as well, granted Leury in a small sample in CF) you don' have to hit as much to be a solid starter. If they can slash 270/320/400 they are decent starters. Anything else is bonus. There are signs that the improvements with the bat are real for both, mostly due to making more contact.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:45 PM) Pathetic. Looked like the last place team we are in that game. Bad pitching. Bad defense. Horrific hitting in the clutch when it mattered. And bad managing with the bunt that one inning when we were only down one. luckily, they play again tmr. I know it's hard to take a 3-4 year view, but try. These close losses will be wins if these guys keep developing and they can find a few pitchers. Sox have usually found pitching.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:23 PM) I think he is enjoying having the best of both worlds....he gets Hawk, who knows the game, but he gets Jason as well, who isn't quite as serious all the time. This is probably as happy as he's been in a long time. yup
  5. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:22 PM) It's interesting that you say this because I've found Stone to be far more energized during the Benetti broadcasts. I think working with someone who's more willing to engage in conversations and actually has knowledge of other teams has brought the best out of Stone. yea I agree. I should have noted Stone usually isn't this enthusiastic with Hawk. Familiarity breeds contempt
  6. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:20 PM) nice knock by TA if he could keep this approach every night he could be something special. Maybe I'm just old but this team reminds somewhat of the early 90's sox. We actually have some talented young position players coming up. Pitching remains to be seen.
  7. throw the slider a foot outside see if he swings.
  8. You can here in Stone's voice that he enjoys talking to a guy that actually knows the game a bit. No offense to Jason, who bring a positive attitude and professional demeanor, but there's something to be said for having played imo.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:16 PM) Serious question: How many more bad starts before you DL Holland or DFA him? He seems finished to me. he looked really bad tonight but the Sox aren't in a rush to DFA anybody given that they aren't in a rush to clear 40 man space or start service time clocks.
  10. Hawk is a good mood tonight if he could bring this effort more often I'd like him again.
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:05 PM) Oh, I just thought that was his permanent existence. Is there a time when he doesn't look that way? Occasionally. I was lucky enough to sit free (Amazon account friend of a friend) 6th row right behind home plate when the Sox played the Mariners here. He was in a nice groove, staying back on the ball, recognizing off speed stuff. He got the same curveball in that game and drove it oppo field gap for a double. That breaking ball, that Stone described as a "knee buckler" but that Hawk (and myself) immediately thought was a meat ball (and to be fair Stone's perspective is valid, but Hawk, and in my s*** career, we hit, not pitched) he would have hit 400 feet if he was in a groove. Instead he didn't even swing. Problem is Todd's "grooves" are getting shorter and shorter. Luckily he's still very good at 3B so he should have some trade value.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:04 PM) EXCEPT NOT LIKE THAT, NOT EVER LIKE THAT see above.
  13. Todd Frazier when he's going bad almost looks like a 30 year old beer leaguer.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) I agree....what do we do? Man I have no idea. It's a good problem though. Maybe teach him 3B if his arm can handle it.
  15. My man crush on Yolmer is fully activated. You guys know I've always been a huge fan. He's always had the glove, now the bat is coming around like it usually did when he had enough experience in the minors.
  16. ya know, it's nights like this where Gregg's "why did we punt" seems almost tangible.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 09:28 PM) I think he makes an interesting long reliever. Obviously won't bring back much Holland, Pelf, Migo and Shields are like the four guys you package in the older (and easier) OOTP games where the computer confuses four AAAA guys for one "A" prospect as a solid trade. They fixed that in like OOTP 16 so somehow I think the return in the real world won't be anything either.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) He hasn't drawn a lot of walks this season and OBP is more valuable than SLG. Yea if he starts taking more walks, lookout. I'd love to see him finish like 260/330/550. Pitchers are going to start nibbling if he keeps this up.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) Another cheapie...Holland and Gonzo have been huge disappointments Eh, there's a reason these guys are 4th/5th/6th starters on good teams.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 08:17 PM) He is a stroooonnng man! This is a fun team for a rebuild imo.
