QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) 2nd and 3rd round. So some losses, but the average 2nd rounder never even makes the bigs so can hardly call it a crippling blow. The "all in" plan was a pretty good one IMO but instead of everything (or most things) breaking right, most things broke wrong. A lot of it is their own doing, first with bringing an obviously over matched defensively Micah north (again, poor internal scouting and development), continuing to let LaRoche play against LHP well into July, not getting more AB for Soto, waiting so long to cut bait on Conor...the list goes on.

Dave Dombrowski hired by the Red Sox
QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) If Caulfield was the GM he would go back in time and acquire all of the players who turned out to be good moves and never traded any White Sox prospect who amounted to anything in the MLB. There would also be Twins and Royals. Caulfield's 2015 White Sox: CF Chris B. Young SS Marcus Semien DH Miguel Cabrera LF Nelson Cruz 1B Kendrys Morales RF Ryan Sweeney 3B Jung Ho-Kang C Josh Phegley 2B Aaron Miles Bench: Lew Ford, Nick Punto, Eduardo Escobar, Paulo Orlando and Miguel Olivo. SP 1 Max Scherzer SP 2 Gio Gonzalez SP 3 Daniel Hudson SP 4 not Jeff Samardzija aka Chris Bassit SP 5 David Holmberg The 20/20 vision on Morales is f***ing nuts. Nobody would look at the 2014 of Morales and think he was worth any sort of pickup and even in his massive "bounce back" year he's still been worth only .9 fWAR. Hell, the Melk man will probably pass him in fWAR by the end of the year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) The White Sox have had 2 "big spending splurges where they sacrificed draft picks" in the past 5 seasons, after 2010 and after 2014. Both of them have basically been failures and the guys they spent money on have seriously underperformed. 2013 was also a big spending season, everything just collapsed during it. At the very least, sitting back and saying "this tactic has now failed for us repeatedly, what can we do different with this organization" should be at the top of the list. The spending has been the absolute least of their problems IMO. This isn't the Red Sox FO throwing hundreds of millions at replacement level players. Even this "all in" push resulted in the loss of (I believe) a 3rd round pick and the only "untradeable" contract is LaRoche and his 20 million or so over the next two years isn't crippling anything. The problem has been their arguably league worst ability to develop above replacement position players in house and properly evaluate talent to bring in both through trades and FA. The scouting and player development are two sides of the same coin and they are both utter horse s***.

Potential Ventura replacements
What would a saber style manager even have done with this club? Platoon Soto and La Roche more? I'm not really seeing the problem with RV as not being saber inclined the problem is that he doesn't have the club ready to play on a daily basis and the club lacks fundamentals in base running, defense and situational hitting.

QUOTE (RegionSox @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 12:24 PM) How would they reevaluate JR's input? He is the owner, he has as much input as he wants. JR seems disenchanted with Manfred and losing his influence in the cabal of ownership. It would be a great time to re-evaluate his stake in the club and his influence. I hope he is ready to sell the club needs new leadership.

I have zero faith in the current setup to produce a winner so any change IMO would need to start with a re-evaluation of the entire FO, including KW, Hahn, JRs input, scouting team, minor league instructors, etc.

Nick Hostetler Promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting
God forbid they'd go out of house to find a replacement...

8/2 vs NY Yankees
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) Granted the pitching failed this series but LaRoche and Avi are f***ing terrible ball players. Avi needs a slumpbuster and another winter ball season and then 500 more PA then they can give up on him. Sucks they can't afford to carry a replacement level Avi but is what it is too many holes elsewhere.

8/2 vs NY Yankees
That Shark trade is probably pissing everyone off. The A's turned Russell into Semien, Phegley and Bassit and the Sox turned Semien, Bassit and Phegley into a 2 WAR rental in a non competing year. Christ on a cookie.

8/1 vs NY Yankees
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Too bad Hahn thought Avi was more talented than Iglesias. Sox could have had Iglesias at SS and either sold high on Alexei or put him back in the OF where he would still be better than Avi. Avi screams "KW"

7/31 White Sox vs Yankees 7:10 PM CT
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) He's trying to salvage what he can. Otherwise his resume so far would look fairly awful. Hahn's resume looks mediocre? He's taken an awful team and made them mediocre in 2 years. That's harder than it looks when the main farm additions are Carlos Sanchez and Carlos Rodon. You know who's resume looks awful... the guy... that would be KW.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Maybe the most disappointing thing of the last 6 weeks or so was Hahn seemingly not trying to unload LaRoche on the Cards or Pirates. It's pretty obvious LaRoche is a terrible fit here. Yes, and everyone knows it. Low ball offers were probably all he got. If you're not getting anything worthwhile back and STILL picking up a large chunk of his salary, then f*** it. My problem is that he continues to play so damn much but whatever we all know my feelings on RV.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 08:29 PM) There's just something about Saladino I like seems you can never tell how a prospect will handle the strikezone at the MLB level until they get up but the kid has a talent for working counts and not getting himself out.

Eaton is turning into an OBP monster again. He's got it up to .340 now and I wouldn't be suprised to see him finish around .360. What an acquisition by Hahn looks like he's gonna finish around 3 WAR again.
