GAME THREAD 5/23 - WHAT'S YOUR VECTOR, HECTOR?
QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) Save us Rodon That kid they got in the Peavy kid looks legit, although he's 2 years away at best.

GAME THREAD 5/23 - WHAT'S YOUR VECTOR, HECTOR?
QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2014 -> 07:22 PM) I wonder where his ERA and W/L record rank among the worst in baseball history over 200 innings Messing around on play finder on BRef found like 20 guys in history that had given up 35 or more HR in between 200 and 220 innings. He's historically bad. Almost all the other guys were guys that had a bad year but otherwise were solid MLB pitchers.

GAME THREAD 5/23 - WHAT'S YOUR VECTOR, HECTOR?
God I'm f***ing SICK of seeing Noesi and Carroll in the rotation. f*** this s***. Bring Johnson backup I don't care if he's getting lit up in AAA, let him learn on the job at least he's young. Start stretching Webb out and try and make him a starter, try something else.

Chris Sale to start Thu May 22 vs Yankees
At this point the fact that sales elbow hasn't blown up with that motion perhaps is evidence that he has top percentile ligament strength and that if he does have problems it won't be the elbow, maybe shoulder. I hope that's the case.

GAME THREAD 5/22 - COME SALE AWAY
QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ May 22, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) Do you think Robin is secretly hoping the Yankees get a two out single next inning? Otherwise, he's in a position very soon where he gets criticized no matter what he does Robin has only one job and that's to make his boss happy. Leaving Sale in past 100 pitches is going to result in a trip to the principle's office. As it should.

GAME THREAD 5/22 - COME SALE AWAY
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 22, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) Of course not are you kidding me? Are we trying to get no hitters or protect our most important asset in a throwaway year. If Robin leaves him past 110 because "no hitter bro" he should be fired before he walks in his office after the game.

GAME THREAD 5/22 - COME SALE AWAY

I love Chris Sale.

GAME THREAD 5/22 - COME SALE AWAY
QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2014 -> 07:52 PM) Extremely long swing tonight His bat is so slow I don't know what happened his rookie year that allowed him to hit so well. I also like that "a hot streak" for Gordon is a 700 OPS. Hopefully dude continues to produce enough to get someone to bite on a trade for him.

Gillaspie/Davidson Future
QUOTE (Jake @ May 22, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) FWIW, Davidson over past 10 games: 12/38, 1 BB, 11 K, 2 HR, 2 2B, 5 RBI, .860 OPS. That isn't far off what I'd expect from him if he succeeds in MLB. He'll hit for a little lower average but walk a few more times if his past serves as a guide. I think a good version of him will strike out in about 25% of his at bats and walk in 8-10%. His average and his inability to hit more than 25-30 HR over a 160 game season would keep his OPS south of .900. It wouldn't shock me if his power stroke developed a little more as he certainly has the talent for it, but that is really difficult to project. As I posted a minute ago 3B is a wasteland right now in MLB. Davidson only "needs" like a 240/320/440 line to be a 2-3 WAR player at 3B, assuming "good enough" defense.

Gillaspie/Davidson Future
QUOTE (flavum @ May 22, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) Gillaspie has played 28 out of 48 games, and hasn't homered yet from a power position. They got time to figure this out. 3B isn't really a power position anymore. In 2013 MLB 3B had a wRC+ of 97and an ISO of only .142. In 2014 those numbers are down even further wRC+ of only 93 this year with an ISO of .141 As a 3B that can maybe hit 300/350/400 against RHP, Conor is very, very valuable, even without much power. Players like him don't grow on trees and thinking that he's "blocking" Davidson is insane. If anything, Davidson needs to prove he can even be the other side of that platoon with Conor. If Davidson is some stud then re-evaluate.

5/21- CWS @ KCR
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) 60 MPH eephus pitch. Eaton's hitting 887 against fastballs and under 700 now against anything else. Gotta make some adjustments. He needs to stay healthy gotta be hard to find a rhythm when you're injured every two weeks. I really have little doubt he'll be a consistant 280/350/380 leadoff guy and CF -- IF he can stay healthy, and that's a big if. His MiLB stats are too good not to translate as is his speed out of the box from the left side.

seems like Q has had some awful BABIP luck this year.

Dunn's Future
QUOTE (raBBit @ May 21, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) Caulfield-ed!!! Eh, nobody is holding a gun to Hahn's hand saying he has to spend the money (theoretically) saved from dumping another 6 million or so in salary on a mediocre starting pitcher. I hate to use this word because it's so generic and can mean anything -- but it gives the Sox flexibility. Say someone with a big salary becomes available via a trade, the Sox will have another 6 or so million on the table in order to make it work. As for the attendance stuff, if this fanbase is so fickle and stupid to turn out in even lower numbers because the Sox dumped Adam Dunn in a rebuilding year then I don't know what to say other then I hope they show up when they start winning.

Dunn's Future
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) Considering the crap you give someone when they said AJ would make have made a big difference last year by pointing out his WAR, it is interesting you write there's no way the Sox are anywhere near where they are right now without Dunn in the lineup when he is sporting a 0.3 WAR. The DH penalty for WAR is extreme, probably a little too high. That said, it's pretty easy to find guys that can hit but can't field at all, and that don't make over $10 million a year. Dunn is hitting, hurray, it's only about 3 years too late. The Sox will trade him for an A ball pitcher or two and maybe some salary back and they'll call it a day. That's fine. If he wasn't hitting at all nobody would take him.

viciedo turning into a good hitter is kinda fun, we deserve something ffs.

Jose Abreu general discussion
QUOTE (Jake @ May 18, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) Rock, can you explain the thought process behind "planned" DL trip? It would make perfect sense if they anticipated it but were keeping him out there in hopes that it might resolve itself. Simply pre-planning it would have to have some kind of personnel-related reasoning...ie, wanting to wait for Eaton's return or something There was no "pre planned" DL trip. The Sox had no handle on the injury at all. Now Jose needs an MRI. In Rock's world I'm sure they planned the MRI as well, like 2 weeks ago. It's ludicrous.

5/18 White Sox @ Astros 1:10 CT CSN
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 18, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) I don't remember the baseball analyst who made the remark that Danks, as many pitchers returning from TJ type surgery, are afraid to let it air out when throwing that fastball. He though Danks had one of the best changeups in the game but until he stated to get at least a 10 MPH difference between the change and the fastball he was going to have trouble It would be awesome if Danks had TJ surgery as that's the elbow. Danks had a full capsule tear -- shoulder injury. You know the other guy that had that? Johan Santana. Danks is done in MLB he'll probably retire when his contract is over. There is no way the Sox could have seen the shoulder problem so I don't blame them for the contract. Hey Dick Allen, how's your boy Danks doing with that 88 mph heater today? Remember that cubs gsme when their AAAA lineup couldn't hit the exact same stuff? Turns out it was smoke and mirrors. Go figure. Gotta love Webb getting to be the fall guy too, god forbid we would over work our non pre-arb relievers. And Jose needs an MRI, yea it was clearly a planned DH trip. "It's not the type of thing that gets worse playing on it" said Jose and the Sox. Yea, that wasn't true.

Abreu to DL/Eaton Reinstated
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 18, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) I think Rock is probably right that they suspected he'd need some time off to deal with this. I also think that, if they knew that, then putting him back out there every day and watching him get worse and struggle more was lunacy. Here is the inescapable conclusion from those assumptions, and it leads to only one thing -- someone getting fired. 1) They knew he'd need a DL trip 2) They knew he has an injury that only gets better with rest If those two things are both true, and they continued to play him, then guess what -- someone should get fired. I choose to believe the much simpler explanation that doesn't involve smoke and mirrors, just good old regular incompetence -- Jose talked his way into the lineup -- something that should never happen.

Jose Abreu general discussion
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 18, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) They've known for quite some time he would have to take a DL stint for the ankle. You don't have to buy anything but it's the truth. Not everyone pays attention to the truth. Continue to LOL, how old are you 12? You sound like a 9/11 truther bro, no offense. I won't post anymore because it's obvious you aren't listening to reason. PRIMA FACIE what evidence do you see for your grand DL plan? On the surface, I see nothing, in fact what I see is bungled management by Robin in letting a player beg his way into the lineup and then aggravated the ankle. As I said, tendionus is from over-use. You think playing in every damn game helped? You are seriously off the deep end here they were planning a DL trip for a guy that continued to play every day with an injury that only gets better with rest? Well if that is true then everyone involved should be fired on the spot for incompetence. If what you are saying is true then why the f*** was he not on DL for the interleague series'? Your theory makes zero sense man, so now they get to lose Jose against much tougher competition so he could play ineffectively against worse teams? Come on, think.

Abreu to DL/Eaton Reinstated
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 18, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) That had nothing to do with it. I mentioned an upcoming DL stint for him a week ago. See my post in the Abreu thread, you have to believe in a pretty awesome acting job and conspiracy by everyone involved to believe that. Jose was seen my multiple media members visibly distraught post game. That doesn't sound like a guy that was told he'd be going on the DL far in advance. People need to put down the Schneider cool aid, it's affecting common sense badly.

Jose Abreu general discussion
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 18, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) So they've been planning a DL trip for weeks but kept on playing him? Not buying that. It's absurd on the face and I can't believe anyone is seriously gullible enough to believe that. How strong is the Herm Scheinder cool aid around here? As observers, this is what we have as the timeline: Spring Training -- Abreu battles ankle soreness in same ankle, club and player downplay it as "usual soreness" May 8th, Cubs -- Abreu "tweaks ankle" after the game Robin says he'll DH until it's better. ~May 12 -- Ankle isn't getting any better from the eye test (obviously hobbling badly down the line) Robin tells media the upcoming off game will "be a great time to get him two days off in a row" Present -- Robin does not give Jose any off days, ankle continues to deteriorate to the eye -- now he's hobbling badly after every swing. Gets so bad he's pulled for Konerko in a close game. Abreu goes on DL after game and is visibly upset post game as media has him sitting for around 15 minutes looking distraught at his locker post game. You tell me Rock, this is just some vast incredibly well thought out plan of action because it seems to me like a clusterf***.

Jose Abreu general discussion
Pretty obvious Ventura handled this the wrong way. Guess what causes Tendinitus? Over use. Abreu had played in every game coming into this series and he should have had two off days in a row, instead he's now on the 15 day dl. You guys can continue to defend Robin and talk about all the great work Chicago has done keeping guys healthy but guess what -- have you watched the last two seasons? It's not exactly like we are keeping guys healthy anymore.
