LUIS ROBERT TRADED
We went from the dumpster in Tucson to the one in Venice Beach.

LUIS ROBERT TRADED
Closest thing I can think of is they picked up Alex Rios' waiver and then took on his salary basically "for free". Amazingly the Sox agreed to pickup the 58.7 million left on his deal just to improve the team -- 16 years ago. JR wasn't always such a stooge but his time is long over as anything but a dinosaur. I don't want to defend Getz' overall record, it's mixed to this point at best -- at best -- but he's not operating with any sort of fair deck relative to even the other bottom 1/4 payrolls.

2026 World Baseball Classic
Brother you gotta come back for the WBC. I've been getting hyped watching last tourney's games and some of the team Taiwan training footage. Bud Selig had a bunch of crap as a commish but helping create the WBC is a big time feather in his cap.

The framing is absurd. You know what else would bring "financial flexibility"? 40 million more allocated to payroll.

Sucks the only one left to stir any crap is Cowley and mostly focuses on stupid rumors rather than hammering home again and again how cheap JR is.

Sure, but this is a JR joint. Can't get fooled again. Just hope he turns over the team ASAP.

It kinda seems like the same people who said he had no value are the most upset he had no value. Puzzling responses here. This move also doesn't indicate much else imo. I guess you can read into that JR is going to go out cheap as always, but what else? Not sure. We just have to wait until ST starts to see how things shake out. Only another month.

Well hard to say the Sox lost what they never really had. That said, we wasted a lot of words here on what ultimately was a nothing burger. Robert is clearly valued as a 1.5 WAR player on a bad one year deal. I don't really blame Getz if JR wasn't willing to pay any freight. At least they got something, even if the upside is a few years of a mildly useful Leury like utility guy.

Manfred legacy...
I mean the solution is pretty fucking simple, if you want a soft cap than introduce the apron system as the NBA did so at a certain point it becomes a de facto hard cap -- which brings me to my next point: I would just get rid of the cap and tax each club's payroll towards revenue sharing. You want to have a 500 million dollar payroll you'll pay a flat __% into the sharing pool and then that money gets distributed however. I'd add a stipulation that a team that was in the top say 20% of league payroll two of the last three seasons is ineligble to recieve revenue sharing payouts, or similar. MLB doesn't need to make what uber generous and loaded owners are doing impossible: they need to make sure it rewards everybody else appropriately.

My dad really loved the 84 team. I was about 5 weeks old that spring training. Time flies.

Robert Thread: Sox talking to Reds, Mets
20 million is ash tray money. Why would you let an asset expire for free rather than invest a little to make a little down the line? If absolutely nothing else Robert in CF makes this team a helluva lot more watchable in 2026 until he's moved. That's not nothing at this point in the team's progress.

Non-White Sox Off-Season Hot Stove
Officially three weeks until pitchers and catchers report. Anybody have any data on how this years FA compares to prior years? Seems every offseason we slide more and more towards extremely late signings. I'm not a "the economics are broken" guy but it can't be healthy for the sport as a whole to have so many late signings. An arbitrary deadline will never happen but this is probably the result of only a half dozen or so of the (usually) same teams swimming in that top FA tier. As the Yankees just did in @WestEddy post these teams have the leverage to wait and not engage in back and forths -- as suitors are limited.

Oh? A swing adjustment? Do tell.

White Sox sign Jarred Kelenic, non-roster invite
He's Nick Madrigal. Cocky and hasn't earned anything. "hard worker" is meaningless. everybody that makes pro ball is a hard worker. At this point in his career he either has the talent to succeed or he does not. "hard work" will mean little if it's ineffective.

Kelenic speaking on culture is like Mussolini speaking on liberal democracy.

2025-26 NFL Season Thread
Loveland was the most athletic TE I've ever seen at UM and we've had some good ones. He has unreal hands and fluidity for a guy that big. Some of the catches he made in big spots for UM were the definition of "game breaker". In the championship game against UW he caught a ball that I think even 90% of NFL TEs don't catch and he made about 40 yards out of it, got UM the momentum back. I believe it would have setup 3rd and long if he didn't catch it, instead it was a huge chunk play. He tried to play through a badly injured shoulder his junior year in a season that was over really before it began with Alex Orji and Davis Warren the QBs. He could have just shut up shop and gotten ready for the draft but he reinjured it instead and it cost him his first NFL training camp and lord knows how many weight room days leading up to the combine. He's a gamer on top of everything else and wants to play even when it might cost him personal stats if he can help the team anyway he can. Willing blocker and has a mean streak too. Other than maybe not being roided up like Brock he has no weaknesses. Create a player type guy.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
That was awkward. Looked like he was having second thoughts. Probably the realization of playing for that crap org.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
Hate to say it but with the lockout pending that plan will be altered. I can't see anybody really doing much next offseason until the new CBA is signed. Fingers crossed somehow they come to an agreement.
