  1. I'd take my chances with Mitch as owner over JR.
  2. An 87 year old, in charge of a failing enterprise, that is the JOKE of all pro baseball for a month running, making a joke about a fellow octogenarian's declining facilities. IS THIS REAL LIFE?
  3. That rapist can GTFO. So can Super Joe.
  4. You know when you get into middle age, and you're at a bar, and it looks dingy, slightly stinks of old cigs and stale beer, everybody has a bit of a gut, some gray hair maybe, and you look around and think "can't be me, can it"? That entire press conference reminded me of that. A bunch of mediocrity doing the least while looking around at each other wondering if this is life.
  5. edit: nm, read the OP wrong.
  6. White Sox baseball: fade to black.
  7. that's about where I'm at. Last time I bothered to go to a game was 2019 and I haven't put a game on since June. Why bother? It's a dead end club. I'm not going to magically fall in love with another team, that's just not how it works, but for now I'm not really a Sox fan either.
  8. What did us poor White Sox fans do to deserve this fate? Did they build new Comiskey on an indian mound?
  9. What a joke. Separate your personal feelings from your professional obligations. He also was talking about how "dominant" the 2005 club was, when in hindsight it was an extremely lucky club that used 100 years worth of saved up pixie dust to win the WS. It was so extraordinary because it was one of the few times in the history of the franchise where they managed to not underachieve, in a year with really no expectations as well. Wow, good job! The Sox have conditioned their fans to expect nothing, so simply not sucking is celebrated, I guess, and if you get lucky and go on a WS run with incredible pitching health and once a career performances from half your staff, you get a lifetime pass from losers like Merkin I guess. 2005 was 18 fucking years ago. We've had one division title and what, two playoff appearances? So we're 1/9 fielding a half way decent club, in a terrible division (that had unbalanced schedule the entire time) in the wildcard and now 2nd wildcard era. That's pathetic. There's nothing "bittersweet" about it, it's all bitter. 2005 might as well be 1985 imo.
  10. has Jay Mariotti chimed in yet? This is his superbowl/christmas/bday all in one.
  11. I want a full house cleaning. There's no evidence Getz has any particular skill at what he does. The Sox finished dead last in overall org minor league performance by run differential. The coaches, scouts, and everybody else responsible need to be broomed.
  12. JR has always struck me as colorblind when it comes to failure. KW, Jerry Manuel, Wilder as good examples. When it comes to mediocrity and failure, JR favors no particular race.
  13. I don't care how successful you are, at 87 your mind has slowed considerably and moreover your thought process is extremely rigid. Old dogs really can't learn new tricks. Maybe at 67, but 87? No way. He is what he is. I really do believe he thinks that the guys he has on hand like Getz might be the solution.
  14. What, the Sox over the last decade aren't obscene enough of a view for you?
  15. Seattle sports talk radio is clowning the Sox right now. Clowning them.
  16. I like to hope these are just trial balloons being floated to see the reaction from the fans and baseball people JR knows. But that's just hope. JR's history suggests he very much thinks these are the moves to get the Sox on the "right" path.
  17. Sodfather for GM.
  18. I hear this guy is tanned, rested and ready:
  19. Loyalty is the lowest of the virtues.
  20. I think JR meddles too.
  21. If they give the gig to Getz this is 2 steps forward, 2 steps back. If I was in charge I'd make some phone calls to Theo, Dombrowski and others and ask them what the price to come to Chicago is. If it's too high, I'd pick their brains for who they think under them is ready for a promotion. I'd then give that person carte blanche to rework the entire org, from the guy watering the field to the baseball operations department.
  22. My reaction to this news was similar, and it surprised me a bit. I really don't care if they leave Chicago. I'd be sad for the people in Chicago but as someone that is firmly in middle age and is 2k miles away? That has plenty of other teams to root for that don't actively engage in fan murdering decisions? I don't care.
