9/22 - White Sox @ Cleveland: Lopez vs Quantrill
Renteria going to earn that fucking paycheck as the "clubhouse whisperer". He better or it's gonna be a deflating end of the year.

I mean if they keep playing like this it's gonna be pretty hard to "flip the switch" come playoff week. At this point I'm just hoping for Giolito and Dallas to shut whoever they face down.

A young team going through growing pains at the worst time. That said, wake the fuck up.

Funnily enough the "fanclub" doesn't seem to be around tonight. And here I am negative ass chitown still glued to every inning. Go figure.

Cease feature on FG
At this rate Cease is going to finish with worse DIPS than Gio did when he was literally the worst qualified starter in MLB. I agree it's not going to be easy and not something that should be undertaken unless necessary but given his issues with generating wiffs and any sort of command (forget control, which I usually define as walk rate: Cease couldn't hit water from a Lake Michigan Beach) it might be something he has to do. I'd love to see him spend the entire offseason in a pitching lab somewhere and work on maybe a 2 seamer and a slider with more tilt and yea only use that 12-6 when it's 0-2. Does he throw a 2 seamer at all? I don't think so, it could be something he can use to help him be effectively wild if he can get good run on it to righties.

Cease feature on FG
Eh, it's more than just confidence. He needs to completely revamp his mechanics this offseason. Whatever is causing him to yank his fastball two feet off the plate and spike his curveball every other pitch has to be figured out. The pitching from the stretch thing I just don't know about. Yes there are many deliveries with unnecessary motion that puts additional stress on a pitcher -- but if he needs a little unnecessary motion to get his release point and command then it's a fair trade off, more than fair.

Will EE ever get going?
His batted ball data is awful. EV way down, popups up -- and that's just when he hits the ball. Rick Hahn is a good GM but his streak of bringing in washed up DH types continues. I liked the signing at the time but I don't have access to the scouting Hahn does. He has to get better at bringing in veteran FA now that the Sox are out of the rebuild. Furthermore, Hahn and the Sox have this baffling tendency to discount opportunity cost and ignore sunk cost. They basically just fucked Zach Collins and Yermin and for what? To REALLY make sure EE is washed up? I mean 9/10 this only ends one way and that's with him sucking the rest of the way and not getting his option picked up. Meanwhile you just wasted any development from Yermin or Collins. Sox could have made the hard decision (but correct) to cut EE two weeks ago and start giving those ABs to other players. But, they didn't and here we are, where they are still hoping for a miracle.

You're never as good as you look at your best and you're never as bad as you look at your worst. That said, the guys not hitting need to turn it around. There's time but I'd love to see Rick get tossed if this shit continues tomorrow. Just something to change the emotional state of the clubhouse.

It's a fucking miracle they took 3 of 4 from the Twins honestly.

this idea that fans complaining about what they are seeing on the field aren't real fans is ludicrous. As if being a fan means 100% just blowing smoke at all times. You're lying to yourself if you're not concerned about how this team will look in the playoffs. They might win the whole damn thing, but certainly not playing like this.

Slumping at the wrong time across the board. Sick of Grandal's pitch calling as well.

Anything can happen in a 3 game series and more often than not the team that comes in hot (not necessarily the better team) will win, so yea need to get hot and hope Gio has a helluva playoff debut. It will be exciting but it might be disappointing finish unless the cold bats get going.

The LEGEND of Luis Robert ESPN feature article
I'll save you guys some reading, this is the crux of it, and anybody that's been watching him suspected this: He's missing hittable pitches. There's no much he can do other than get his swing back in a groove. Maybe some extra drill work or another day off will help. I suspect it's mostly a matter of just getting his timing back. You could see he was trying not to fly open yesterday and he ended up just jamming himself.
