  1. Yes you can see that in his batted ball data. A 268 BABIP which you might think is unlucky until you see his pull percentage. Dude does not turn on the ball. When he does hit it, it's usually opposite field into the ground or up the middle on the ground. Seems like he's going to need to completely retool his approach and swing. I was a fan of the pick but right now it looks like another massive Sox scouting fail.
  2. He's been unlucky but even when he had a BABIP near 300 last year he still only managed a 97 wRC+. It wasn't too hopeful to think he'd work out as a 1.5 WAR DH in a rebuild year (after he failed to attract Machado, go figure...) but that hope is gone now. Just cut him and let Palka DH.
  3. I know. I thought for sure he'd at least hit for average if not power. But he's hitting 265! And his walk rate sucks too. @Timmy U -- ugh.
  4. I'm worried that Nick Madrigal is a fucking utility guy. How is he not hitting more than he is in A+ as a "polished" 22 year old college guy with a full offseason to work on his body? Frankly he doesn't even look like a utility guy he looks like guy that's going to wash out of baseball at 27 with 30 days service time at the MLB level. Those power numbers are dreadful and he doesn't appear to be a SS.
  5. I was thinking last night that this is first time in recent memory the Sox actually have solid starters (not sure if this is Tilson's true talent level but for now he's been solid) in LF, CF and RF. Getting Engel's fucking bat out of the lineup was a god send. And so was getting rid of Palka's glove in RF. Cordell is probably the 4th OF next year and that's not bad either.
  6. McCann and Narvaez have a 147 and 143 wRC+ respectively and have put up 2.6 combined fWAR. 1.4 for Omar and 1.2 for McCann. That's absolutely incredible.
  7. It's a good word. I've been using "bog standard" a lot too recently. Mostly I'm just jazzed to be talking about a mediocre Sox team with some good young players and not an awful one with 3-4 years of rebuild left. Seems like you can see the makings of a solid club, just need to find some starting.
  8. would make no sense. Nova is a cromulent 5th starter. We need every hand on deck for the rotation. Not even teams with decent depth would cut Nova they'd have him as the swing man or emergency guy.
  9. that's the starting pitching mostly. hard to look good when you got three 5th starters (and borderline for a couple of those guys) in your rotation.
  10. Incredibly fun game. Not sure why they had to use Colome with the tying run still sitting somewhere in the dugout but whatever at least he came in and shut it down without too much effort. Should be available tonight hopefully.
  11. Nice to see the front end of the pen come in and do well.
  12. wow grand slam and triple play only happens roughly once a decade. Send the game ball to the HOF.
  13. It's time to designate Yolmer as a bench guy.
  14. I'm just happy he didn't try Osich as a LOOGY in a 6 run game.
  15. that would have been before the first two batters reached. rickie loves to do nothing or do everything in regard to his pitching changes. it's a strange oscillation.
  16. kept a pitcher in too long. in incredibly predictable fashion. When winning this game in short order would have been a great thing.
  17. They need to make Eloy a 1B, he's not a natural OF he can't track the ball for shit. He has much better quick twitch instincts and is long to give a good target.
  18. I'm going to go on the record and say this is head exploding dumb by Rickie.
