  1. throw in steele walker for good measure.
  2. say they throw in like 25 million, which is realistic -- maybe 40 man scrub like Engel and then whatever random C+ prospect they want. But if they do that they should have just signed Wheeler!
  3. Yup, lol, it's absurd. Gammons is senile.
  4. No kidding. Those guys would net someone like...Yoan Moncada! Someone you could project 300+ million surplus on before FA. Not a fucking overpaid bum like Price and a guy entering FA.
  5. Of course they are. Maybe any scraps they want to drop on the ground from the adult table the Sox can pick up.
  6. Cashing in on Vaughn and Madrigal and turning them into Price and Benintendi would probably kill off half this place as fans. You'd be turning about 100 million in surplus projected value over the next 3 years into 0-30 million depending on how much cash Boston ships. Yikes.
  7. so a top 10 prospect and a top 30 one for a guy with about 40 million in dead money on his deal relative to production and a 2.5 WAR corner OF already in arb. Gammons, just retire dude you called the wrong number that wasn't a Red Sox FO member that answered it was the Barstool Boston guy.
  8. It dovetails nicely with getting the extra year back, so there's no doubt as soon as that day passes (it's like early may right?) he'll be up.
  9. pretty team friendly deal. that said, he's not very good. that option doesn't have a very good chance of getting picked up.
  10. I feel like this happens a lot: JR: so who is are the _____ to get us over the hump in FA? Hahn: these guys, but specifically this one guy. JR: will we have to overpay what your metrics say we should? Hahn: No, I can make it happen at the price we consider good. *player signs elsewhere* JR: What happened? Hahn: we can make better use of the payroll.
  11. I think it can be said that Hahn and the Org in general (including KW and JR here) have a cockiness about them that is unearned. I feel like they are sniffing each other's farts up there in the C suite floor getting high off their own supply. Would anybody doubt that Hahn (and KW) believe they are "too smart" to overpay for Wheeler? Would anybody doubt that they were blindsided that he didn't take slightly more money to play for them? It feels like Hahn is either gun shy or overly confident in his ability to pull off Oakland like dumpster dives every offseason. Which hey that's fine if JR isn't going to pony up the cash for FA but clubs like the As invest so much more in scouting, development and LA. It's one or the other at min! And the best clubs, like the Yankees, and Houston are spending money everywhere, doing both.
  12. Also since it's the dead of december and there's no real news to discuss if you are a T-Mobile subscriber you will almost certainly get free MLB.tv again this year. All you have to do is activate the coupon when they release it. Don't make the mistake I did two years ago paying too early as they won't refund wait for the T-Mobile coupon usually they release it middle of March. God March in Tempe sounds nice right now. 2.5 months away.
  13. Yoan Moncada is 80% of the reason I watch this shit team. Come on.
  14. Yep. Penny smart pound foolish. As usual. They will commit two unnecessary years (and 30 odd million) to Jose but won't sweeten a deal by 10 million or so when it only costs cash to acquire a 4 WAR SP and not trade assets.
  15. If Boston is trying to dump salary the return should reflect that. If the Sox won't leverage their payroll "flexibility" in FA hopefully they at least leverage it in trades.
  16. live look at rick hahn:
  17. Huh, wonder how much they are paying Getz to make those calls.
  18. Not sure what's more frayed my fandom for the Sox or this bum's fucking UCL.
  19. I was on board with both Madrigal and Vaughn. Thought they were the clear best BPA when they picked and also fit the rebuild timeline as more polished college players. Hated the Burger pick for various reasons but mostly that he was never a 3B in MLB.
  20. same. happy for him, glad he left the booth before he said something that would have ruined all this.
  21. wait what? I highly doubt the Sox drafted Vaughn because they "had a position available". They drafted him because he was the best college bat and BPA.
  22. Without knowing anything about the Rangers' system it's just more that he was #6 here given that the Sox are in a rebuild that sort of depth is poor.
  23. Haniger is coming off a major core injury and was shit before he got hurt. I'm not sure he has much value. That said, he'd have been a massively better acquisition than Mazara for RF.
