To Sell or Not to Sell?
You're probably right which is why I'd target Leake. According to that link interest is low. Leake is owed some money and the Sox won't have to give up much of anything to get him. I'd assume that one of Rutherford or Basabe + an A ball lotto ticket would get it done. That might even be too much depending on how much salary the Mariners want to eat. Leake would slot in nicely as the 3rd or 4th starter the next two years. Gio/Kopech/Leake/Cease/Rodon/Lopez/Dunning Sign a FA like Cole and that rotation can kick one of Rodon/Lopez/Dunning to the curb or bullpen and things really are looking up.

To Sell or Not to Sell?
Sox should be looking to trade for Mike Leake or Matt Boyd IMO, even if it means giving up a few guys ranked 10-20 in the system and perhaps Leury.

Engel Recalled
He's started over 250 games in CF and fangraphs has him like +3 runs over that time above average. As I've noted the trope of "Adam Engel elite defense" should be put to bed. He's a slightly above average defensive CF that can't hit his weight most months. He's a 26th man. He sucks. On a club with ANY ORG DEPTH AT ALL he'd have been cast aside long, long ago. It speaks to how incredible fucking dismal our situation was circa 2015 that he was a top 30 guy in the org.

Zipper Merge or Get to the Back of the Line?
This is a major problem in Seattle. The main problem is that drivers here refuse to come up to speed using the zipper and impatient more aggressive (appropriately aggressive on a crowded freeway) drivers will merge behind them. The result is slowing merging for everybody but I can't blame the drivers that bypass the slower cars.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
Sox fans seem to optimistically relay the story to indicate JR is willing to learn from mistakes. I'm not so sure that's the takeaway. The takeaway for me is that JR likes to work with people he personally likes, including Hawk. JR is a great businessman obviously but in business if you only work with people you like you're seriously limiting yourself.

Eloy going on IL
Eloy was clearly calling for it and in position to probably make the catch when Tilson comes barrelling in late and didn't Tilson admit he called it late? Having Robert in CF is going to solve a lot of Eloy's problems in LF. Just pin him to the line, tell him to make every play in front of him when he sees the flash of Robert to his left GTFO of the way.

Bryce Harper and Machado?
I always wanted Machado and still want him.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
Well when you lose about 8 WAR in SP and then another 5-6 in the failed whaling front that's what happens. I mean you hate to see it but you could see it coming after the offseason and all the injuries to the rotation. You're smart enough to know (and I admit to getting sucked in at times) that with this rotation and that RD things were going to go south at some point. They got one more chance to get it right this offseason. Hope in one hand shit in the other we'll see what happens at least the kids are alright when they are healthy.

7/19- Sox at Rays, 6:10, NBCSC
Jose Abreu on July 19: 271/306/492.

one of those three is not like the other. 3 are the 26th man and 1 is a legit stud utility guy.

Luis Robert
does anybody know where he ranks in the BA update? He's probably what, 2nd now behind Wander?

I was worried about Yoan. If only all our players could have a "slump" that lasted about 30 PA.

don't we all.

he's bad coming in. We haven't had a CF that can make plays going back and in since Cameron. Leury stinks on balls in front of him as well. I think it takes a natural talent to have the confidence to charge in knowing it might be a 3B or HR if you miss it and it goes to the wall in dead center.

engel's "elite defense" is one of the more moronic Sox Talk tropes. He has a noodle arm and consistently gets bad jumps. He's fast, cool, maybe he should have tried track.

Jose's OPS is going to fall below 800 this series and it's going to be painful trying to deal him for anything.

- Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
I believe Jeff Passan said on radio out there that in his opinion the majority of players are now micro dosing T. If BALCO was making stuff 15-20 year ago that was pretty much undectable lord only knows what they have got now. Something that allows an athlete to maintain mass in season and feel "fresh" while out of their system in 48 hours? That would pretty much be undetectable without constantly, weekly testing and even a random test would be unlikely to catch it. I'd guess that most of these guys are dosing the night prior to an off day and then do a gym day with plenty lighter weights and higher reps to maintain mass without the soreness and fatigue that comes with training, especially in season.- Engel Recalled
I got a soft stool for him.- Engel Recalled
career wRC+ of 56. You just shake your head at how paper thin the Sox system still is in many ways. He's literally below replacement and we don't even have a better AAAA CF. I'll say this the viewing season is pretty much over for me until TA and Eloy are back and perhaps Robert is brought up. I have ZERO interest in watching Reed, Engel, Yolmer and Cordell go 1-20 on a good night.- Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
Yea it's in my blood. I don't GAF about any other club other than the Sox. If you're raised from age 5 or whatever on Sox baseball you can't just quit it.- Shake-up Needed in Coaching Staff, ASAP
I often say it. At least we aren't Mariners fans. - Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
