I'd hazard a guess most players tracked with that technology at this level are prospects of some sort. DIII to Juco to D1 and pro. That said, it's obvious he has some flaws in his game, hence the 4th round.
Thank fucking god. I don't think I've ever been as excited to see a quality backup catcher on the roster. Do not think I could take much more Navarro. Just give most of the starts to Smith, at least he can catch the fucking ball.
Hard not to listen to that interview with his college coach and get excited. Interesting tidbit in that he compared his fielding to Ozzie's. Ozzie could pick it but let's hope Nick has a better bat! Seems like his absolute floor is 2 WAR super utility guy. Let's hope for more than that but man, this seems like a great pick at #4. Feels like you could talk yourself into him as 1:1 in this class.
Eh, I'm just not at all worried. You can never have too many good players. I don't really care too much about power at 3B if the 3B is playing +15 runs defensively and is getting on base at a 380 clip. And it's not like he won't have his share of doubles and triples. Ideally he slashes something like 300/380/470 in his prime -- rich man's Dee Gordon.
Easy to solve that solution either with a trade or position switch. If it happens, the Sox are in a really good position -- "excess" quality infielders.
Sox will have plenty of power in theory. Need guys that can defend and get on base at premium positions. That seems like this kid. More I think about it the more I love the pick. They needed a big time middle infield prospect and now they got one.
Once baseball goes to only 8 men in the field to encourage contact circa 2023 it's going to be great having Anderson and Madrigal and Moncada. Distrupt that, Manfred.
He can play and obviously size isn't that important for position players. Yea all things equal give me a guy like Moncada or TA body wise but all things aren't equal. Kid can hit and he can field. It's a skills game for the most part.
