I was living in Sunset Park right by Red Hook in the early aughts. It was, by any definition, an utter s%*# hole. Polluted, rusting, run down, roads in disrepair. By the time I left NYC in 5 years it was completely transformed and it was hard to believe it used to be so run down. Money talks, especially in these type of sites in dense cities that were once industrial and can be levelled and redesigned and upgraded in one fell swoop without worrying too much about existing homeowners and business.

I haven't looked for specifics but something like a top 50 guy and then a top 100 guy and then another top 150 type. So like a A- type, a B- type and then a C+ preferably toolsy OF type. If Vargas is only getting you a back end top 100 and a top 150 type no way. You gotta try and get more value and a headliner. Frankly I don't see a team paying that much, but the Mariners are under a ton of pressure right now.

I feel that, other side of me however sees we need 30+ WAR to even start to think about a division title and if someone wants to give us 150 cents on the dollar for an average regular we should probably consider it.

If the Mariners want to overpay for Vargas let them. He's probably JAG. Decent starter, nothing more. I'm not convinced he can play a MLB 3B and that's a problem.

He can't play a passable SS so he's useless. If Colson comes up and Baldwin you have three guys that can all play it better.

Sosa can't play 3B and he isn't a 1B either. He needs to just stay at 2B for now. We're kinda in a pickle here. I really don't want to give up on Sosa too soon he's got too much upside as a bat to just throw into a trade because of a perceived need to get Colson in the lineup this year. I really don't have a strong opinion on what to do other than don't force anything.

I know a healthy HR jog when I see one and that was a healthy HR jog. The back isn't an issue. Agree 100% it's time to see if he can sink or swim. You look at his last week of production and that's the sort of talent that at one time had him a borderline top 25 guy. Not many left hand hitting SS that have 70 grade raw power.
