  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) It's 2-1 right? Ed Farmer said 2 run Homer 3-1 of course. Yes it's 2-1. That was a solo HR.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:39 PM) I am aware. I think that has more to do with everyone else playing well under their career norms that Tyler Flowers and Geo Soto being good at baseball. Either would be a fine back-up. Problem is, there are very few good catchers in baseball right now, but I'd certainly like one of the top 10 catching prospects in the game and give him a chance next year than rely on either one of those two for more than back-up duty in 2016. Unlike you, I think we're fine in the OF for now, and we have several internal options at 2B and SS. 3B and C would be my priorities, and SS next. If you can get a top of the league player at C as the key piece in a deal I wouldn't complain at all, all I'd ask in response is why that's preferable to getting a top of the league talent in one of the corner OF spots. If you could replace Avi with a top of the league corner OF it's a bigger upgrade than replacing Flowers with one and both Flowers and Avi have the problem of moving forward in their arb years the next couple seasons.
  3. Boom, that ball was killed by Moustakas. 12 pitch at bat then drove it 415 feet. 2-1 bad guys.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Since they're playing the Royals, I can't get MLB.tv working, so I can't see what's going on. How's Saladino looked? Good play on the ball I recall being hit to him, well done bunt hit earlier when he noted that Moustakas was playing back.
  5. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) Feel like they just snuck on a re-run of a game from earlier this year and didn't tell anybody. Alexei wouldn't have gotten the out he bobbled earlier this season.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) Well if he can't fill at least one of 3B or C (plus some additional prospects), he simply won't be traded. Just to note again, Catcher is actually the position where the Sox have their 2nd highest fWAR. Tyler Flowers has more fWAR than any of our position player regulars other than Abreu. Maybe you think someone will improve next year at one of those positions, fine, but I certainly wouldn't say "we must find a catcher" or "finding a new catcher is more important than 3b, SS, OF, or 2b".
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) and i agree, but puig is not the player and or position that needs help. lets say this, puig comes to the sox, the sox have more holes in the rotation, and the sox have 5 players for 4 position. 3 -of 1-dh Our corner outfielders are terrible. We have a -2.0 fWAR from our corner outfielders this year, RF and LF combined. That is solidly the worst in baseball, the Phillies are next at -1.2. Only 4 teams in baseball are negative. Hell, we are easily the worst OF in baseball when you combine our CF spot also being the worst. Maybe you think one of those guys will do better next year, maybe they all will, but until that happens it's fair to say the White Sox have the worst outfield in baseball. Hands down, not even close.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) Or maybe the umps/review should do what they're paid to do It seems pretty clear to me that a big part of the problem for us on plays like that is that we're making them too close. If they're close calls and the umps can't tell "when his leg hits the base versus when the tag hits him" the replay isn't going to either and the umps aren't giving the tie on tight plays at 2nd.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Both of those CS were blown calls. Maybe the lesson we should take is that "running when it is going to be close enough as to leave it in the hands of the umps/review" is a bad move that is costing us a fair number of runs?
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) Ventura back to the Abreu batting second silliness I see. Better than Saladino there.
  11. Quick poll: Will Avi be thrown out somewhere on the basepaths?
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) Obviously Puig would be a net + in RF over Avi right now. But you don't trade your 2nd best trading chip, and a guy who is locked up long-term well below market value for him. By the way, you still think Melky is a 1 WAR player moving forward? His month-long hot streak has taken him from -1.0 to -0.7 fWAR.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) The Sox wouldn't do Q for Puig straight up. If the Sox trade Q, it will be to get an above average ML ready 3B or C, + some other high upside prospects. The Sox definitely would not just through Avi in the in addition. Let's fix the holes we have, not fix something that isn't broken (I am not an Avi hater, and want to give him at least another 1.5 seasons, the dude is young). Puig in RF = the White Sox have a much better chance at competing in 2016. Garcia in RF = not sure why you'd think the White Sox can be competitive with him out there. You can give Avi more time in RF, fine, but build a roster with the expectation that you're not going to be that much better than this year. If the White Sox want to compete in 2016 and have Avi in RF, they need to be much stronger everywhere else on the diamond, and that's a lot of talent they don't have.
  14. Oh hay Saladino is not in the 2 hole. Good.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) Shark, Montas and maybe a lower level prospect (pick one from say 6 to 15 in the system) for Puig makes sense value-wise. Generally think you're underselling Puig by a significant amount there. I agree with you on the Quintana value part, but I don't think you've given them very much in that offer.
  16. Serious question. Where would he play (unless we moved an OF).
  17. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) Colorado would probably be more agreeable to a Danks/CarGo swap than we think. They'd love to save $20 million. I can't figure out whether they would actually move him just for salary relief. It seems like something they'd probably have done several times over the last few years if they were willing and it seems like there would have been several teams that would give them that salary relief on a gamble. It just seems like they're not motivated to do so.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) The only way i look at Gonzalez is with some salary relief. Trading Danks would achieve part of that. The basically match for 2016. 2017 would be something else as CarGo is $20 million, while Danks deal is over. That's probably why he added "melky".
  19. Crazy predictions? The White Sox lose 5 of their next 7 games and then make no major deadline moves.
  20. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Love how you completely missed or ignored the "not you personally' part of what I wrote so you can appear to be personally offended. In general, you'd be impressed at how much scientists do try to green their lifestyles, but the idea that you can pull off the kind of work that is done at a conference using a teleconference is just silly and that really should be dumped. You can do some things that way, but 1000+ person teleconferences aren't exactly very efficient.
  21. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) You could say the same thing about Carlos Sanchez. Unfortunately some guys just can't hit at the MLB level. Since June 19 he's hitting about .240. Have you been happy with his production over the last month?
