  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) Amazing that Avi is in the low 270s now That he's that high or that low? He's been due for a prolongued slump for like 2.5 seasons now but he's always had the season end or a long injury that made sure the numbers wouldn't even out.
  2. Nice catch Polonco. 11 pitch inning, more than 1/2 of them to Abreu.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) http://sportsmockery.com/2015/06/chicago-c...for-chris-sale/ I know it's Sports Mockery, but look at the trade proposals they suggested lmao. The Cubs know the name that would get us interested and it's the name they're not moving.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) Noesi and Boni DFA'd Danks to the pen with E. Johnson taking Danks next start on Monday against the Twinkies Micah recalled. This after Danks s***s the bed tonight against the Pirates. Who takes Rodon's next start if you've DFA'd the long reliever?
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) good it is about time. did anyone come away from this as RV is, or maybe his position might be getting a little tenuous. There's an old saying that a vote of confidence is the worst thing a manager can get...because that means he needs a vote of confidence.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) Thibs "abuse" is really overblown. Even Popovich used Duncan more at the same age. Plus Butler also missed what, a month last year with a totally freak injury?
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) It would work for him just like the article stated. He gets a short term contract, and the ability to sign a full extension later. That's not what I asked, I asked if the Lakers would be willing to let go of their #2 pick with no guarantee of being able to keep the player more than 2 years. The last time they traded for a guy and just expected to sign him it didn't work.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) With the way Thibs abused Butler, trading him might not be the most awful idea. We all know the Bulls aren't winning anything as currently constructed anyway. A sign and trade deal involving the #2 pick could be a starter. The trick would be that the team taking him would have to be willing to accept him on a 2-3 year contract with an opt out that allows him to become unrestricted. Would the Lakers be willing to do that?
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) So you're suggesting unless there's is video tape evidence, all eye witness testimony is not credible and should not be allowed? Fundamentally we clearly disagree. Eye witness testimony is still good, credible evidence, even if it's not always accurate. Stating that the killer was dressed in a clown suit versus being dressed as a bear is something i'm confident people won't f*** up. Saying the killer was 10 feet from the victim versus 3 feet is something that I can admit may be wrong. But people recognize that. Jurors understand that. No one goes in believing that the person claiming they saw something with confidence actually saw what they saw. I literally get this every day in my job. I'll have 5 witnesses to an event and their recollections are all slightly different. The general jist is pretty consistent, it's the tiny details that may differ. I'm not really sure what the argument is anymore. All i'm saying is that generally speaking I would tend to believe that cops have a better ability to see an event unfold and then recall those events in a report because they have been specifically trained to do that. That's their job. Jo Blow on the street seeing an event unfold is usually just going about his/her day, not planning to analyze an entire situation that's unfolding. They are less equipped for that. And I would counter that there's a solid chance that the additional stress of being a police officer offsets any skill or training they receive in such matters, and then submit a proposal to the national science foundation to study such things if I were a social scientist. I would then be told no, this research is unimportant because social science is not a "core science" according to the current Congress.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Depends on what source you go by. I've read some stuff on real gm and KC that indicated Bulls eventually made last ditch max offer (which is still less then what is here). Cowley reported the max offer Bulls made was 4 / 40 and Bulls and Jimmy were 2.5M apart. Not sure what the truth is. I did also find an earlier article from KC mentioning a difference of about 2M, which in hindsight is awful cause this will cost a lot more. No one expected Jimmy Buckets to be this good this fast, but I did expect him to be a better player then he was two years ago and at that point, he was already a guy worthy of a 10M offer (Given that Alex Burks got that much money). The numbers you mention Cowley reporting are in the ranges of the ones I heard and I was generally ok with the Bulls making those offers, but man if Butler can take a short term deal with an opt-out that winds up being a huge mistake.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) Witnessing an event and recalling that memory is not an impossibility. SOME specifics and SOME recollections might be faulty, not EVERYTHING that someone sees. Eye witness testimony can be unreliable and sometimes inaccurate. But not ALL eye witness testimony. But you can't tell which parts will be inaccurate unless you have some other bit of data, such as videotape, to support it, and that goes for all eyewitness testimony.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) There isn't on this team. But no need to salary dump him either. It was a premature signing, in retrospect, but at least he's pitching well. Well no, there's no need for a full "Salary dump", I wouldn't trade him unless I got something useful back in return for him (unless their financials are looking worse for next year than I would guess they are). However, I would absolutely be up for moving him if I could get a positive contributing player back.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) The Bulls offered him extra money in the off-season. The full max. He wasn't interested in it and bet on himself to get more money. I do agree this wouldn't be good for the Bulls, but I can't blame Jimmy and I do think it will result in a still hungry Jimmy. Bulls still would be in the driver seat. All this said, this is clearly Jimmy's team and hopefully Hoiberg can help with that process. It will be interesting how everyone adjusts to Hoiberg. Really? Can you back that up with a reference? Because my memory says that they werne't going to go the full max on him and that's why he didn't get an extension done, he was "betting on himself" to be able to get that max deal.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) and if it wasn't for him, the sox could have had 7 more losses. So what? Seriously what's the difference? Why is it a big deal that we're only 7 games under .500 instead of 10 or 12? If we could get something by moving him and free up the salary, it's not like "big money closers" are never available as free agents and it's not like Robertson isn't replaceable next year or the next time we do an all-in season. By the way, 2 of those save opportunities were blown against Torotno, so we could only have 5 more losses.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) The Bulls will offer him a max Qualifying Offer. That means that he'll probably sign a 3 year $50 million deal with a team. Then the Bulls will match. He'll become unrestricted in the summer of 2018. Bulls will own hide Bird Rights at that time. Butler will be a Bull next year. If he says he's looking at "shorter term" options that could easily mean he'll sign a 1 year deal.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 12:55 PM) Who's going to take the time to do a study on that? Why don't you think that's a logical assumption? Cops are trained on how to deal with emergencies, are they not? They're trained on the best way to analyze situations as they come upon them and/or as they happen, are they not? You don't think it's a logical assumption that that training would make them better equipped in those situations than everyday Joe Schmo? I'm not talking 100% of the time, i'm talking generally. Let's put it this way, if cops aren't better, we have a serious issue with our training practices. They absolutely should be given that criminal convictions are predicated on their reports and recollections and testimony in court. That's a fundamental aspect of our judicial system. If your goal is to train people to fly, your problem is not with your training system when they are unable to fly.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) I'd say it's a slight upgrade from 2-3 years ago simply because of Montas, Anderson and Fulmer...and hopefully the 4th/5th round starters or Hickman. Kangari at 1B/DH. Hawkins has a 25% chance of still being an impact player, but it's nothing like 2 years ago. And Micah Johnson, who, not surprisingly, was exposed defensively. I'm at the point where I disagree. The White Sox having a terrible system for years didn't mean they didn't produce players, it meant that they'd occasionally produce some (I'm sure you can come up with the list of players we drafted in the last 5 years who made the bigs), it meant that they always had people at lower levels who were intriguing but who would struggle when they came up, it meant that they had no one knocking on the door ready to take spots, it meant that when we drafted someone they automatically became our #1 prospect, it meant when I fill out my top 10 list I put the guy they just drafted at #1 and then want to leave slots 2-5 open because no one really belongs there. If you don't get to count Rodon, we're basically right back there.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--bull..._medium=twitter savvy move from him. Hope he stays healthy. This would be absolutely terrible for the bulls FWIW, Butler taking a short term deal and being a fully unrestricted FA where the Bulls can't even match his offersheets (even though they could offer him a year more than other teams IIRC). That would be a terrible result of not offering him extra money last offseason.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) didn't Hahn just hired some sort of office exec this offseason. i remember posting about how 1 person will doing the same thing Bell is doing but with no title. You don't mean Jim Thome do you?
  20. If we want to end this scoreless streak it better be tonight because you don't want that going with who's on the mound tomorrow.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 11:57 AM) Salary dump Robertson? GTFO. Robertson has had 7 total save opportunities in the last month. Melancon who we faced last night has had 13. Yes he makes Robin's job easier but what's the point of having an expensive top flight closer if you have 7 save opportunities in a month?
  22. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) I'm not sure that I want him more involved. I don't quite understand why everyone is so apt to give Hahn a pass while denigrating KW as an incompetent. I agree with that assessment, but who was his right-hand man all those years? Where is the future? The big league squad is horrible, the farm system is better (compared to what it was), but its still not really having a very good year in terms of seeing prospects elevating their games and improving. The entire franchise needs an overhaul. If that included telling Hahn and KW to go grab a begging cup, I wouldn't lose too much sleep. FWIW, now that Rodon has been promoted and we traded away pieces from it last year, I'm pretty sure I disagree with the statement the farm system is better. It seems just about as week as it has been pretty much constantly right now.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Exactly. And if we get something better back (trade/draft pick compensation) that turns out to be better than Semien, that's a win in my book. Would you give up Semien straight up for Samardzija right now? I sure as *** wouldn't if I were the A's. Even if I were 1 game out and in need of pitching.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) What does that mean "he had no future with this organization?" We like expensive guys who underperform and guys who don't get on base. He was neither of those.
