QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) And there is the extreme hyperbole, what took so long? Dude you're in the latest "Fire the manager" thread. Sadly I kinda think I'm serious. The last "All-in" season was supposedly pushed by JR and that turned out terribly. Whether Hahn pushed JR to spending more this offseason or JR pushed Hahn into it...well we're even worse right now than that team was.

GT 5/29: White Sox (21-25) vs. Astros (30-18)

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 29, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) I hope he learned from Sale. Chris mixed in three pitches and showed why he is one of the top pitchers in baseball Rodon really doesn't have the changeup there at all and last time I checked he's barely used anything pitch F/X classifies as a changeup all year (plus that could be pFX messing up classifying his slider). He's basically a two pitch pitcher for now. If we wanted him working on the changeup we would have left him in Charlotte. The Change is something we'll hope he masters in a future offseason. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) You think the Epstein operates without going to the Ricketts family? No way. So you're saying that the Ricketts family is substantially outperforming Reinsdorf's group in their management of that franchise?

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 29, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) Samardzija may have gotten off to a bad start but he's pitched well lately and now his season numbers are starting to look decent. His ERA is under 4.00 and his peripherals look good, he's 25th in WAR for starting pitchers this year. I still think the compensation pick will end up being better than any trade deadline haul we could get for him though. If that's true then we're getting terribly bad offers for him. A single comp pick/the slight increase in associated money really isn't that great of a haul. It can be decent & helpful but its far enough back that there's >50% chance the guy never sees the big leagues. Keenyn Walker was probably a fair comp pick - guy with skills who was raw & never turned out for us.

Ouch. I like the piece in general...but I read that and winced. Ouch.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) Do you honestly think Theo Epstein has no input on the Cubs decision making process? Do we think the Moneyball "trading Carlos Pena so that Art Howe can't play him at 1b" was accurate?

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 29, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) I know why they are there and how they are abused to confiscate money from legitimate people with almost no hope of getting it back. This sounds like you're crossing it up with civil asset forfeiture?

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 29, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) I would re-phrase that to "some of them just aren't having good years." This would be Abreu, LaRoche, Cabrera, Sale, JS., Quentana. These are players with track records and aren't living up to it so far. The aren't very good ones are the ones you listed but if the previously mentioned ones were having "typical years" this team would be well above .500. And If a team that should be "very well above .500" is systematically playing worse, with very few injuries as an excuse, then it becomes a very legitimate question "what is wrong with this team that could cause so many different players to systematically be below where they normally are?" What could effect an entire roster and make an entire roster play worse? There's your choice. Either this roster was never good enough to compete and the person who traded for a major player on a 1 year contract and spent $50 million while leaving huge holes is a fool, or this roster is good enough to compete and the people who manage the roster and helped this roster prepare for the season are utterly failing at their jobs.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 29, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) I would think that should be the bigger story. Former Speaker Blackmailed! As for his withdrawals, it is just disgusting that it is a crime to withdraw your own money. Just to note - the laws requiring these disclosures of movements of large sums of money were actually strengthened in 2001 by the USA Patriot Act as a method of making it harder for terrorists to move/launder money undetected.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) Coaches should coach. GMs should GM. That's how I see it. The Bulls PR department is doing a good job making Thibs the bad guy here, but if he was so horrible and played guys too much, why did he last 5 seasons? Why did he get a very lucrative contract extension which still has 2 years to go? You yourself are using a quote from a writer that stated he never got any info from Thibs as proof Thibs gave him info. Isn't it at least slightly possible the Van Gundy comments weren't coming from Thibs? He was speaking from common knowledge. We all knew the stories. The fact is GarPax hasn't yet shown they are any better at their jobs than the guys they fired. I hope someone with the Bulls realizes that. Some of that is just having a deeper roster this year that wasn't as injury-depleted and refusing to use it. I can't be mad when Hinrich and Nate Robinson have to split time at PG because Rose is out. I can be more annoyed with Hinrich getting 20 minutes when there are other PG and Snell on the bench who have been moved out of the rotation. I can be annoyed when Mirotic starts off the playoffs completely out of the rotation for some reason we still can't explain.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 29, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) Not at all. Garpax still have their jobs. Without knowing exactly how the player decisions went down the last few years, they should probably count as "on notice". They won't because that's how Reinsdorf franchises run, but they should be.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 28, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) It's their jobs to determine which "projects" will reach their potential. One problem though is that another part of their jobs included keeping their coach happy even at the expense of finding the best players. I could tolerate that for a while, but this year that got kinda excessive (hinrich).

QUOTE (kapzk @ May 28, 2015 -> 06:51 PM) Although Soto's error could have saved a few runs, overall a bad start by Beck. For a guy making his ML Debut I'd say the exact opposite.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 28, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) I say we just DFA the next bum who gets picked off. (Somehow it winds up being Rodon/Sale)
-
Beck threw some fairly nice looking offspeed pitches that inning.
-
QUOTE (shipps @ May 28, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) When was the last good Whitesox pitching debut? Seriously. Rodon's first start?
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 28, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) Not seeing much out of Beck today. I don't know why you wouldn't be. Good velocity so far, people have liked the movement on both his offspeed stuff and on his fastball, he's clearly a rookie who's both overpumped and has work to do, but even has 3 K's in these 3.2 innings. I don't expect rookies to dominate any team, but there's plenty to work with here.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 28, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) because he can actually hit. No, he can't.
-
Totally missed his spot on that double.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 28, 2015 -> 05:05 PM) Made a good pitch on Jones, just hit it too softly. That fastball had some real late cut on it moving inside on him.
-
Beck hasn't gotten that slider/curve (not sure what pitch it is) over for a strike yet but he threw it on 3-2.
-
"Give that fan a contract"
-
Beck's had a couple fastballs get away from him high including that leadoff triple. Adrenaline?
