Hector Noesi & the search for 2 righties
Balta1701 replied to The Ultimate Champion's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (The Wiz @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) I don't mind Noesi but I think his best role on any team seriously trying to contender is the swing man out of the pen who can spot start or maybe a 5th starter if he does improve in the offseason. He's already been an above-average 5th starter for us. There's nothing wrong with a cheap 5th starter who takes the ball every 5-6 days and gives you a chance to win some, that's more than most competitive teams have. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) I think teams just waited until the last minute to pull the trigger so there would be less salary involved. The problem with that thinking from the White Sox's side is that they paid Dunn his money anyway. The White Sox could have spent the exact same amount of money and gotten Wilkins another 3 weeks worth of at bats if they'd done this in early August. But yeah I know, sending money along isn't their style. Still doesn't make me less annoyed.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Am I crazy for thinking one of Montes or Danish will be in the rotation by the end of the year? For any other team I'd say yes, but this team does push people insanely fast. -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) Where are the people who said Dunn absolutely had to be DFA's because the Sox could not unload him and get talent in return OR save any money? Now that they have actually done both, I believe there are several plates of steaming hot crow ready to be eaten. I was getting to that point because this should have been done weeks ago and it was hard to believe it didn't.

Ok, This needed to be done 60 seconds faster.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) No way he is safe Frame by frame he looks safe to me.

Hector Noesi & the search for 2 righties

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) I don't think we need to worry about lefties/righties. I think we sign two of the above in the "reclamation project" range, and make a trade for a young starter with a mid-rotation ceiling. Justin Masterson does seem like he makes some sense for this roster if you could get a contract with an option year or two on it. It might take more than we'd want to pay for a reclamation project but you also wouldn't be making a huge, unending commitment to him. You also wouldn't feel bad benching him for Rodon if he gets out pitched if you don't spend too much on him. -
Hector Noesi & the search for 2 righties

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) So in summation: IMO Hector should spend the offseason working on a Mark Buehrle type change or a circle change. If he can refine that then he could use his 4seamer more often, have 3 distinct velocity ranges, and either use the curve as a "show me" 5th pitch or ditch it completely as it will be unnecessary/redundant. *Edit: if he could do this then I think he will become a solid #3 and a core piece. If he can't I would try to trade him and continue to upgrade. As it is he's a great value at his price tag and performance but I would want more out of my rotation in general. I think there's a very good chance we see a much more advanced Noesi next year. He's getting his feet wet with these pitching coaches this year, this offseason would be an excellent time for him to grow a lot. -
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) It was Wilkins. I know I'm gonna get flanked here but what is up with Black? I know he's 27 in AA but he's always hit in the minors, what is his downfall? A good rule IMO is that a guy who is slightly older than a level needs to really destroy a level to prove that he is big-league ready. Dan black's been a decent hitter in the minors but he's been old for every level and put up in the range of 15-18 home runs per year at previous minor league stops, along with mid-.800 OPS numbers. This year, his first at AAA, .760 OPS, 11 home runs on the season, including some time at AA. A 27 year old in AAA who is going to contribute to a big league team should be doing what Wilkins did the last couple months, making it clear he's head and shoulders above the league, and even then it's no guarantee. A mid-700's OPS from a 27 year old 1b at AAA isn't a recipe for a guy who is going to help your big league team.

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) I am sure if Oak offered more, the sox may have eaten more of his salary, (The White Sox still ate his salary for August).
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) not that I know of. I just meant to say that the sox need to know if he is a viable part of the future or a career minor league player The only reason we need to know that this year is if he's out of options, and frankly, him having success in September would be a decent confidence builder but you wouldn't give him LF next year based on that until you can see him finally find a groove at Charlotte. Won't be mad if he comes up, but do object to "we need to know if he's viable" right now. He's not going to be in anyone's way if he does another year at Charlotte.
-
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) It happened on the last day because Oakland wanted to pay as little as possible. The White Sox would have been better off paying the difference a month ago and getting those at bats for Wilkins. Leave basically no difference in what the A's pay.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) Last year was ridiculous for tanking. The White Sox have just traded away 2 regular players.
-
Jonathan Broxton to the Brewers.
-
They can basically have anyone who isn't needed in Charlotte today sit in the big league dugout for a day and it won't matter because they'll be on the roster tomorrow.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) totally agree. the sox need to see, if the Mitchell of the last month is the real potential or not. it is cut throat decision but it has to be made. Is Mitchell out of options?
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) This is how I feel. I was really disappointed with how he started the season. I always felt like he was an underrated hitter. But it was time to go, would have been non-tendered. He was definitely an underrated hitter but the defense and base running miscues were impossible to ignore. If he'd just been decent in those regards, an "average" amount of mental errors, he'd be a very good player.

Shoulda happened a month ago.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 10:54 PM) Yup, let's start with some history, six out of the seven years prior to this season the Sox had a $100M+ payroll. And then let's consider your beloved Forbes numbers, where the Sox lost $3M last year with a $120M payroll. Now add some common sense, like an additional $20M in national TV money and the fact that the Sox offered Tanaka a seven figure deal this past offseason, and it's easy to see a $100M payroll next year is beyond a reasonable assumption. The White Sox also traded away $10 million+ in salary during the season in the form of Thornton and Peavy last year.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 09:54 PM) Im calling it. Sox trade for hamels in offseason. ALL. THE. LEFTIES.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) I don't want his head cut off. You are nuts. I'll kill my post, however, since it is INCORRECTLY being taken wrong. No, you just wanted to present a nice, detailed fantasy of it happening, including profanity and imaginary details, because that's a-ok.

Rick Hahn thought offering them arbitration was a good idea?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 09:41 PM) You are crazy. I don't want anyone to die at the hands of ISIS. I may think Colbert is scum for his jokes about the journalist who was beheaded but I don't want anyone to be murdered. Can you read? That's in one of the things prohibited in this forum. You came up with a creative way to maneuver around it and say "Oh I hope someone doesn't f***ing cut his sawed off". I think you're pathetic and I won't even write that about you.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) Why? I said I hoped he didn't get his head sawed off. I don't want Colbert to die.If you read it the wrong way, kill the post. I don't care. Yeah, because casually outlining how you think it would be fair for a person to die because you don't like his humor? Perfectly dignified. Classy. You should take a bow and feel proud of yourself.
