who's paying the medical bills for this dead person?

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 11:58 PM) Which is subsidized by higher rates for everyone else. Same s***, different pony. Some people might be stupid enough to think its progress though. "People not dying because of money" = progress to me, and = a darn shame to a great humanitarian like Duke. If people don't die when they get sick, how will they ever learn not to get sick? -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 01:45 AM) I've lost all respect for Rodman really have. What a f***ing loser. Yeah.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) You can't use both cap space and the MLE in the same off-season. I believe there's another one called the "stretch exception" or something like that, but it's only like $2 million. In other words, you need close to $30 million in cap space for Melo and Mirotic. Rose and Noah alone take up almost half the cap, so...yeah, not happening. Is that a new rule? Because somehow Miami was able to do it the year they assembled the big 3 and also gave the MLE to Miller. Similarly that's how the Bulls assembled their bench after signing Boozer.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) So what about Frank's "physique"? He went from 240 in 1990 to 275 a couple years later. And that's about when Chicago Sportswriters/talkers started calling him fat and saying that's why his numbers were dropping off.

QUOTE (timbo @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 05:53 PM) nine figues are they crazy If they are then so is everyone here.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 05:40 PM) Well, for the record, I was not (and I think it's common sense that being a slave is worse than not being a slave). I was disagreeing with Balta's "because you're white" comment more than anything. Not all whites were equal either. But there's barely a non-white-soul in this country who would pine for the period from 1870-1950.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 01:54 PM) Noah is worth more then that to the Bulls. He's having a very strong season (after recovering from a slow start). In no world would I deal Noah for a late 1st rounder and free cap space, not this year. I believe all Bulls need to do is clear Hinrich, Dunleavy and Gibson for expirings and they would have more then enough to offer Melo a max deal (+ sign Mirotic). Only way I'm moving Noah is if I'm getting other talented players at high prices (e.g., in a Kevin Love deal) or I'm getting a combination of either lottery picks or really good young players on cheap deals (+ expirings). No reason Noah shouldn't be part of the Bulls long term plans if you can't get that. Caproom won't do us s*** this year. Melo is really the only target worth throwing big money at (unless LBJ truly comes out) so it at least makes sense to be positioned to grab 1 player. If you can't find this stuff, then you basically have to keep caproom until the following years class which is much stronger (isn't that Love/Westbook/George + guys like Durant can opt out). That's going to be really narrow and I don't think the Bulls will be able to do it by moving Gibson alone. Rose, Noah, Butler, Snell, and Teague totals $36.725 million. A max deal for Melo is $22458401. That would push the Bulls to $59.2 million before any draft holds this year, and if the Bulls have 2 picks in the 10-20 range each of them will be another $1.5 million in held money. That puts them to $62 million. Dumping Teague for scraps doesn't get you there either. Dumping Teague, using any draft picks from this year on foreign players, not bringing over Mirotic unless he can be had for the MLE, and possibly dumping Snell might get you there.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) I don't buy that he wouldn't come to US to be a star. He could be quietly dominant in Japan. Why come here if not wanting everyone to know you are the best? $.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) So do a lot of people. When it comes to something they agree with/like (climate change for example), you'll find them saying "science, science, science", but when science happens to side with something they don't like (GMOs for example), suddenly it's "science isn't always right...need longer term studies, etc." The long term studies on GMO's have been done and I'd say that they're 99.9% convincing. Maybe there's need for extra regulation just to be careful since the world is a larger population than most trials and rare events might still occur, but at this point the data on their safety and effectiveness is convincing. (someone needed to say that, btw). -
So basically the whole response to that was "yeah, but there was even more hate at the time too!" Obviously therefore, that is the best, most free time in American History and we should applaud anyone who idolizes that time and expresses a wish to go back to that kind of freedom. Because it's totally not nuts.

Obviously more people would have looked had there not been a well-positioned cell phone.

Maybe he'd laugh less if more nude photos of him appeared.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) Exactly. And you'd still have Noah and Butler who are very good defensive players. Also, depending on if you can find a way to keep Taj (while getting Melo), you'd have another very good defender there. Plus the guys getting replaced aren't what you'd call elite defenders (well Deng is but Boozer certainly wasn't). (IMO the way to clear enough space to offer a guy like Melo is to trade Noah, and I'm not sure you can do so without moving him. But Noah ought to be worth a late first round pick and an expiring to someone right now, he'd be a major upgrade at Center for most teams not named the Pacers)

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) It's interesting. Problematic for the bulls that despite knowing they have atrocious outside scoring, have tried to plug that gap with "3pt scoring man". And we keep swapping them out. You are only going to make marginal gains with your outside shooting by adding one 6th man 3pt specialist. They can be easily taken out of the game. But when you are talking about adding a SF with legitimate range and a PF with legitimate range (some assumption with Mirotic) it becomes an interesting lineup. But defense is going to take a huge hit. It seems like Knicks have tried to improve their achilles of no d effort by signing A D effort guy. Basketball team chemistry is complicated. I honestly do not buy at all the idea that "Defense is going to take a huge hit" as long as the Bulls don't change coaches. He'll figure that out. Maybe if you like put Hinrich at Center it wouldn't work...but otherwise.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) Garcia has a lot of ability, but just last June I was getting s*** from this very board proposing Reed for Garcia straight-up. Half this board didn't even like the guy a month before we acquired him. And that was still correct, IMO.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:35 AM) I knew it was coming, the BUT WUT ABT RAYCISM N SOXIAL JUSTISE?!?!?!? Don't give a s*** anymore, just flat out stopped caring once I came to the realization that those things are used a crutch to pretend this country hasn't always been a total mess. Id love to see the O'Shaughnessy dam blown up by the way. The rampant ambition of that era did lead us to make some mistakes. Putting San Francisco in a permanent state of drought alone would be worth it, not to mention restoring the canyon itself. Of course you don't give a S***. You're white.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) I've said over and over that much of this country needs to be protected from our addiction to consumption. Americans by and large are lazy, fat, useless assholes who would nuke Denali from orbit if it would somehow mean they could stuff 5% more useless crap into their shopping carts. My contempt for them is a big reason I don't give a s*** what happens to them. And the glory years? Eh, 1870-1950-ish. At least that's how I imagine it (I wasn't there), the 60's and 70's weren't bad even if the writing was on the wall. How dare you trample individual rights like that. And as always...it's useful to think of how those glory years would be if you were a woman. Or didn't have pale skin. Oh, and that's also the era when Hetch Hetchy was flooded.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 09:02 AM) If you're just pushing this welfare and social justice crap because you know it'll eventually destroy the current power structure and from there we can again be a self governing people responsible for our own situations I take back every single time I've disagreed with you. yes, we need to be responsible for our own situations. It's madness that I can't mine the darn Grand Canyon, madness. Do you know how much oil there is trapped beneath Los Angeles? We need that oil dammit.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) For me, I think the favorites to land him are: Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, and the Angels but if I had to pick a couple dark horses, they would be the Sox and Mariners. Sale Tanaka Quintana Johnson Danks(/Paulino/Rienzo/Surkamp) wouldn't look too shabby next season. I just cannot see how the Yankees could spend the kind of money they already have this offseason and then let this guy get past them unless they don't believe in him.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 10:58 PM) Because I've always seen America as the sum of free individuals. I know its not, I'm not that stupid, but I just like the idea. That and its a very naturally beautiful place. Which is why it must be destroyed.
