QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 10:59 PM) Wasn't he also on one of the Star Trek tv series as well?
-
Obviously that's because more people care about that opening they have in their geology department. Right?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) From the 28th... If the Lakers can save $20 million+ by trading Gasol for him...they're not sending a pick along with Bynum at the very least.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) That makes Dunn or Viciedo look a bit better...the days where you expected an 800+ OPS from 4-5 positions in the line-up are long gone. Don't worry though, that's why we're carrying an extra one (sigh...)

QUOTE (spiderman @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 06:52 AM) I agree, that's why I said it probably isn't going to happen this off-season, they have cashed in their chips to make the moves they have. They can get a piece for De Aza, just don't think it will be some top 100 prospect. That's fine. But he needs to be off the roster and somewhere else before Feb 20. That's the price you pay for acquiring his replacement first.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 03:32 AM) I actually think Davidson has 6 years left, and Garcia has 5 maybe. Actually Garcia didn't come up until after the Super 2 deadline last year and hasn't accumulated a year's service time yet. Both of them have the full 6 years remaining before free agency if they make the big league roster out of spring training - 2020 free agency for both of them in that case.

I'm not worried about this. The good news is we have a strong coaching staff capable of handling these types of personalities.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) The Phoenix-area radio station that passed along the "anonymous" information in the first place is disgusting. Tell your source to put his name on it or you aren't reporting it. The report was enough for us to believe and talk about.

I'm amazed the Big Ten is still in the game. So not used to this.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 05:21 PM) Yeah I know, and there is no NFL team nearby. It's just such an awesome setting for football and you know the weather is gonna be nice. (And yes I am biased from a Big Ten school living in a cold winter town. But it was such an awesome experience being there six years ago, despite the butt kicking) (Lived within biking distance of it for 6.5 years). You're 100% right on all this but those luxury boxes are a huge deal and "we'll give you a Super Bowl" has been a useful tool to extract stadium money from taxpayers nationwide.

Official 2013-2014 NCAA Football Thread

From a Big 10 perspective, that's the kind of opening I'm used to. -
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) Yeah, looks like there's probably NL DH data included. "Average of averages" probably isn't the most effective way to provide this data. The AL and NL splits don't show up all that different. The AL DH's have 20 points higher of OBP but similar slugging numbers, so the AL DH's have a .725 OPS, the NL is at .705.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 04:42 PM) The Rose Bowl should just be the permanent host of the Super Bowl. It doesn't measure up to modern stadiums on luxury boxes.
-
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 04:17 PM) Not yet, but he will if we keep him IMO. If he's a reserve he should be expected to see time there. Probably easier for him to pick up a few AB's as a corner OF than to expect him to pick up SS.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) Maybe it didn't suck, but it wasn't as good as his previous years, and he had 22 errors coming off a season in which he had 12. That's all fine, but he was still a very solid, positive player at shortstop for the entire year. Beckham was barely above average, Alexei was really good. I think there's a huge advantage to having him next to Davidson, at least for next year, given that Davidson isn't supposed to be a strong 3b. Having a SS with really good range next to him will make that part of the transition easier on the rook.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) I think that this board in general undervalues Alexei. I would not want to see him traded unless we get a VERY good return. He hit .275-.285, steals bases, and (excluding 2013) occasionally hits home runs (15 HRPY). Yes, his defense sucked this year, but it's been good in the past and I think it will rebound. His defense didn't "suck" last year. It wasn't his best season but it was still really good at a tough position. People describe Beckham's defense as good and he's never had a single season where he's been as effective on defense as Alexei was last year.

Everyone supply sympathy for Greg.

Colorado hasn't legalized that one yet.

And now an extra 6 million people can get them without going bankrupt.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) I don't think it is bulls***, but I also don't think it shows the entire picture in context. There is something missing because Webb was a turnstile last season The problem continues to be that they virtually never gave him help last year and that led directly to a lot of sacks. You don't put pro bowl tackles one on one against Clay Matthews for almost an entire game and expect positive results.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) Not super encouraging that Leury failed to pit up very good numbers. While his defense and basemning make him a good fit for our crappy MLB bench, his bat needs a lot of work, even for that role. More AAA time required IMO. The Rangers definitely pushed him up rapidly, so more AAA time would make sense if there's a slot for him. But...if Davidson, Semien, and Sanchez are all at AAA...and Mitchell and perhaps Trayce are in the OF...it might be tough to find him a place to get regular at bats.
-
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) So you're ok with having a bench of Gillaspie/Keppinger/OF/C....But not Konerko/Keppinger/OF/C?(one of the benches you were against) Who plays SS? Thats was a problem you had before. I've been told to stop asking and pretend that isn't an issue.
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Don't count out the fact that Hahn is still trying to trade Dunn. This would make Konerko the full time DH and the team can have both Gillespie AND Keppinger on the bench. I'm assuming Davidson is your starting 3b this season. This would be a solid move right now but again it should be done before the start of ST so that guys have some idea of their roles.
