  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) Something like for De Aza+ and we also get $$ in return. If He's owed $50 million and we're sending De Aza...the $$ in return better be about $50 million.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) No to PK as a hitting coach, Sox already doing enough on the job training with Ventura. If Konerko's interested in being a hitting coach...great, I'd love to give him the job of hitting coach overseeing the entire system. Working with boht the minor leagues and the major leagues as necessary. I definitely want an outside voice on the ML staff though.
  3. If the White Sox add a pitcher it should be a guy on a minor league contract with an invite to spring training and possibly an option for the 2015 season. They should not spend more than that on any pitcher unless they've traded a couple guys beforehand.
  4. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 10:08 PM) Well in my scenario he was moved along with Beckham for Headley who you'd think would turn out the same or more WAR and also plug a hole, but then of course you're paying Headley way more than Santiago. I didn't consider salary enough with regards replacing Santiago. I was talking to my buddy, a Tigers fan, about the Sox. He said he'd looked at Santiago's numbers in-depth and it looked to him like he was a strong candidate for regression. Then again, I heard the same thing said about Quintana before last season. They totally screwed with Santiago this year and that really impacted him esp in the 2nd half, remember that. And if Keppinger isn't the worst player in history again, a Gillaspe/Keppinger has a shot at putting up similar numbers to Headley if he's not te ridiculous 2012 version of himself. At best again maybe there's another 2 WAR or so over that platoon, but giving up a player and over $10 million for that for only 1 year is a terrible move.
  5. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 09:26 PM) Yeah it's not packed with realism. Reading up on Tanaka and comparing his numbers to others who've made the switch I'd be pretty confident he could provide 4-5 WAR per year which would make him a bargain if he went for anything near what I've said. Of course then you have to talk about if those wins matter in terms of are they just improving a bad team or making a decent team a contender. Just looking at the farm system, what you'd pay for a pitcher as good as that already in MLB, Santiago's possible regression etc., I think it'd be, like Abreu, a risk worth taking. But obviously it'd be insane and it won't happen, particularly with all the teams in on him. As regards Beckham, yeah my mistake, haha. You can actually see I edited my post, that was me non-tendering Beckham, forgetting I'd already traded him. This is what the White Sox get for hiring an Irishman as the GM. The other thing to remember is that the white sox already have a strong, cheap starting rotation. If he added 4 War great, but if he's replacing a rookie who could give 2 WAR next year and 3 the next couple afterwards, that's a terrible move unless the white sox can get a great trade for that pitcher. Also, I think Santiago is more likely to improve than regress if he's not bounced back and forth To the pen and he already got some innings built up last year. That's the case if he's traded too, I think we hid a real value in the pen last year.
  6. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) I have a feeling you know something......... Only if paulie is soon to be struck by a meteor.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 06:26 PM) She is the only one capable of that kind of incoherence. Hence why its random appearance looking like a rant of yours in this thread seemed...confusing.
  8. This fact check of claims about the PPACA's awfulness is really quite a treat.
  9. I'm guessing that's a Palin quote from Megyn Kelly's show.
  10. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 06:13 PM) Abreu may not start the season with the big club. That would be either an injury or an enormous failure.
  11. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) I wonder if that's because they are hiring more older workers or if the younger workers are just staying longer. Probably both - it's a consequence of neither group being able to find actual jobs.
  12. I'm going to guess you're posting that because of the green spike - the horror, they undid all the costly emergency measures of moving funds around that the SecTreas does. Remember, every time they hit the debt limit and use the extraordinary measures, it costs a ton of money - $1.3 billion according to the CBO.
  13. I wonder if Konerko would be willing to take an "Organizational hitting coach" job next year. Not the team hitting coach but one overseeing the full system.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) The cost of doing business in the past was considerably less too - no health insurance, workers comp benefits, overtime, annual income increases, etc. Yes, the rich execs got richer, but i'm sure if you looked at the numbers the cost of employing one person today versus 1950 is remarkably different. Well, the fraction of total revenue in this country's economy going to workers has plummeted substantially over the past few decades. The blue line on this graph is worker pay as a fraction of GDP (Uncertain if that includes total benefits) while the red line is corporate earnings as a share of GDP. (Do note the difference in scales)
  15. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) I would guess a small percentage. A small anecdotal story; I have been to McDonald's overseas and the customers appeared to all be locals with the exception of me. The menu was also different than a U.S. McDonald's, with a few things the same. The burger tasted slightly different in Beijing. I can't describe exactly how but it was noticeable that the flavoring was slightly different.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) Clean the gene pool a little. You do realize how awful the history of the concept "cleaning the gene pool" is, right?
  17. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 01:19 AM) What does everything think Cano is going to get? I would kill to see him on the Sox.. highly doubt they would spend the money needed but one can dream! I was just reading Cano supposedly asked 10yrs 300+... yikes no chance I think realistically he comes down in the $175 million range for perhaps 8 years.
  18. QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) Not happening, he will be opening day 1st basemen Yeah, 100%.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) With Hector gone, you've only got Sale-Quintana-Danks. Add Lannan, then give one of them a chance. I decided on my way in I wanted to elaborate on this. Do not underestimate the White Sox's pitching depth in their minors. Seriously. Starting next year at AAA there will be Snodgress and Bassitt. These guys may not be top of the rotation guys, but I've seen both of them in person and both of them have major-league caliber arms. They aren't Chris Sale, don't get me wrong here, but these are 2 guys who could very well contribute to next year's roster despite being somewhat unheralded. And that's ignoring the name whose footsteps we should be hearing, Beck. He's right now on the same track Johnson was on last year...in fact he's ahead of him thanks to the AA playoffs. There is a very good chance that by mid-season next year he's in AAA and we're talking about a callup for him coming soon. If I'm in the GM chair, I wait for the right deal obviously, I want a guy who helps my major league starting lineup right now...but I'd seriously consider moving one of those lefties and going with Sale-Q/Santiago-Danks-Rienzo-Johnson to start the year. Yes, it's a gamble to do so, those rookies/semirookies could very readily implode...but that's also the kind of gamble the White Sox should take. High reward, and frankly, with what we have on the way in the minors, fairly low risk.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 11:01 PM) That's close . Still looking. I'm content with my guess.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 01:52 AM) Headley's price is about as low as it'll ever get. I'd be ecstatic to get a player like him (even his bad season wasn't that bad). Just so it's said...his trade price might be low, but his $ price is going to be up there and the Padres aren't going to be motivated to move him at all.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) Has something been announced? No and Hahn has released a statement saying he won't comment on rumors.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:30 PM) Not sure why time wasn't updated, as it's referencing a report from "Thurs night" The time stamp says 4:51 pm. Even central time that's well before Rosenthals latest stuff.
