Jacobs back in the lineup after missing last nights game for personal reasons.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) That's the take on him so far. Maybe good d and he has speed. Bat isn't there I know, it's ridiculous. The White Sox should be able to trade expensive OF's for 22 year olds who play good defense, have blazing speed, and are already .400 hitters. Otherwise it's an obvious failure, I mean teams are just dying to give away Mike Trouts these days.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) Yes, but there's more to the strike than just punishing Assad. You can't stop small chemical rockets. It's to help ensure that the next one Assad launches isn't of greater size. Once there's a willingness to use such weapons, one must worry about how large he's willing to go. It's a threat to the US' and our allies' securities when you have a nut who has shown the willingness to use chemical weapons, who is capable of delivering the next one on a much larger scale. It's about prevention in this case. And if he's already winning the war and the U.S. is unwilling to commit enough to change that fact, and the chemical weapons deployments have made a difference in the war, and the Russians and Iranians have pledged to replace anything the U.S. destroys, it pretty much does the opposite.

Futuresox will be tweeting from the Barons game

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) Santiago losing his velocity as season goes on. The announcers already acting shocked at how many fastballs the Sox are swinging and missing. Get him his innings now so that his arm can take it next year.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) In this situation, yes there will be minimal collateral damage. This isn't like recent military objectives where humans were the targets, living in civilian areas. Assad can hide his small weaponry, that's not the target. The objective isn't to take away his chemical weaponry. It's to hinder his ability to use it in the future, and he can't hide the larger equipment needed to fire such weaponry (i.e. planes, air fields, launch equipment, etc.). Those are the targets, and hitting those will result in minimal collateral damage, absolutely. Air fields can be repaired in hours. Airplanes can't be replaced but this attack wasn't launched from airplanes. It was supposedly launched in an urban area by small rockets.

Should I email Fox and thank them for this mess not being on my TV instead of my usual complaint email?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) I still find it comical that with how bad the Sox have been this year, they still almost have a better record than the Cubs I find it comical that the White Sox .400 winning percentage is better than the Cubs winning percentage last year...and that the Cubs have been this bad since basically 2010.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) Nestor Molina had a great relief appearance. He went 3IP, 0H, 5K. Paper said he came in and got a double play IIRC also.

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) Seems backwards! LEADOFF HITTERS MUST BE FAST

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 08:34 PM) also... we've had two bushes, why not two clintons? To be fair...that's not exactly a selling point...

And the 9th consecutive fly ball leaves the park

First 8 outs all flyouts by the Orioles.

Robin says Leury will probably play 2b tomorrow and Semien should be in lineup as well.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 05:31 PM) That's fine but he's a terrible fit on this team going forward, IMO. He has 21 errors this season more than a few of which are routine plays. In almost 600 plate appearances he leads the planet in fewest pitches seen. And by the end of the year his fielding numbers will wind up looking similar to those he's had almost every year of his career. Yes he doesn't take pitches, but "my shortstop isn't patient enough" is a really small complaint for a guy who is an above average fielder and who is actually getting better at running the bases.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) You can keep asking high but there was almost zero interest in him this past trade deadline. There will be takers this offseason but for very little back. Alexei is everything wrong with this team in 2014 with his lack of focus in the field and his atrocious approach at the plate. He due to make almost $20M the next two years. And in the fangraphs world he was worth $8 million last season and $12 million this season with a month left. And that's at a premium position where people are paying $20 million for a lot worse.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) He also check swung, but too far and he gone, at a pitch at a game I was at a couple of weeks ago that bounced 4 feet in front of home plate. It barely cleared the grass. Watching him swing at that and , like you stated take so many right down the middle, has zero to do with his shoulder. He is not a good hitter. There may be a time he gets hot and hits you some homers, but I don't see Flowers having sustained success with the bat. IMO, he is perfectly fine as a back up. Pick his spots and he could be a little more dangerous. Isn't it possible that having an injured shoulder could screw with your approach? If your shoulder hurts when you're starting your swing, you're going to start your swing earlier and have a tougher time recognizing pitches and holding back on things.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) No thanks. Lawrie is still young but all he's proven is that he can get injured and not be very good so far. Q on the other hand has already proven to be a number 2-3 starter in this league. I get the idea of trying to trade one of the sp's for a young 3b but Q for Lawrie would be a poor trade on our end. Would you do Santiago for him?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) I'd bet Alexei is as good as gone. I think there's a good chance they won't move him because they'll keep the asking price high, particularly given the year he's putting together this year. I don't think Hahn and co are going to go into next year with Semien at SS unless an offer good enough to force them to do so comes along. Again, just my guess though.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) Right, generally speaking, it's pointless to will him into being anything but a high K/low BB guy, but you gotta hit a tons of bombs to make 24/5 work with a .300ish BABIP. And it's not because walks are good or K's are bad, but because they are by products of an approach. It's not that we want him to walk, it's that we want him to take bad pitches and swing at good ones. One thing worth adding to this conversation is that between Garcia's speed and inside out swing, there is precedent for him being able to sustain a BABIP substantially over .300. The guy who comes to my mind first with an inside out swing as a righty is Jeter, yeah it's not a perfect comparison but run with it for a moment. Jeter has over his career (12000 PA's) put up a .354 BABIP. Yeah it's not over .400 so it still has to come down, but Jeter is legendary for wearing pitchers out going the other way and we've seen some of that from Garcia so far. Add every caveat you want, needs to cut down on the K's, swing at better pitches, show more power, etc., but its definitely worth remembering that guys with speed who spray the ball all over the field are tough to defend and they get a lot of balls that just drop.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 10:51 PM) Rick & co are not gonna punt the 2014 season. This is based on a couple whispers about potential targets if they can't land Abreu. Here is what I'd like to see: Rotation: Sale, Danks, Josh Johnson (FA), Santiago, Erik Johnson Bullpen: Reed, Jones, Lindstrom, Webb, Petricka, Leesman, Marinez LF: De Aza 2B: Beckham RF: Hunter Pence (FA) 3/$39 C: Brian McCann (FA) 4/$60 1B: Viciedo DH: Dunn CF: A. Garcia 3B: Brett Lawrie (Quintana trade) SS: Semien UT: Gillaspie IF: Keppinger OF: Danks C: Phegley I don't know about Pence, but I think McCann is going to get a lot more than 4/$60.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) Who's the backup at shortstop? Beckham? Keppinger? Leury?

Sigh. I can't even remember a series of articles where quotes have been misread his consistently for so many days.

I looked up from my phone and was seriously impressed by how bad that woman's lip syncing was.
