  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) I would think there are contingencies in place. (I'd prefer the ballplayer to money, personally, especially given how terrible our bench has already been).
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) Does that mean L Garcia has to stay with the Rangers org until October? And we should probably hope he doesn't destroy a knee during the playoffs.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports that the Rangers will send Leury Garcia to the White Sox in the Alex Rios deal. They're announcing it as a player to be named later now only so Garcia doesn't have to pass through waivers. Garcia has some speed and should have a future as a utility player, but he's only a career .261/.310/.347 hitter in the minors, so the Rangers didn't give up much. Aug 9 - 2:33 PM Per Rotoworld Love the last line Sox did not get much. Of course, the guy from MLB.com took a look at his minor league numbers without noting that he's only 22 and was in AA last year at 21 as well.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) I'd love Ellsbury, as he'd be the perfect fit. However, it seems like that would be a huge long shot. Morales seems like a real good fit as well. Now that the Sox no longer have an OF logjam, yeah I think they're probably a very likely destination for Morales. That makes about as much sense as Rios to the Rangers did.
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) So he is fast and has a good arm. Sounds like he would be a great college quarterback. I was one guy who wanted to get something solid back for Rios, and I'll take Leonys as a decent return. It fills a need, has some talent, and grades well on several tools. He also makes the roster work a lot better if Semien makes the big leagues next year.
  6. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) Sad thing is I think Reinsdorf didn't allow Hahn to put any money in these deals completely hog tied what he could do in trades. The only team out of the list that the Sox traded with who aren't already big spending was the Rays. $2-3 million really doesn't matter to the Red Sox or Rangers right now nearly as much as the guys they have in their system.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:27 PM) In my opinion, the sooner people get comfortable with the fact the Sox won't compete next year, the easier it is to take these recent moves. Despite what Hahn has said, this is a pure rebuild. This was the move that makes it a complete rebuild. This is the first move made that actually hurts the Sox significantly next year.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) Not sure about his arm but supposedly he can play shortstop as well. Supposed to be a slick fielder with great speed. If the long term plan is not to keep Alexei...he might well have a role then next year fitting in alongside Semien.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) Dan Hayes and others still seem to think that the PTBNL will be Garcia. Is there any chance that the PTBNL has anything to do with the pool of players the Cubs are looking at? Could that be why we have to wait? If it is Garcia, it actually does sorta make sense, he's a guy who could fit into the Sox right away, he's on Texas's roster right now so he can't be traded, he does have some tools, he's very young, and hopefully he helps out next year's bench a ton. I could live with that.
  10. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) Trade could still be for Leury Garcia, he's on the 40 man roster. That would blow. He's seemingly a 22 year old with good speed who's been extremely young at every level with a lot of versatility. I could see that as a plausible return.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:51 AM) First base is terrible, correct there Beckham has negative range, but he's never shown well in advanced defensive metrics. There's been nothing good at 2B. Alexei always shows well, but errors are hurting him badly this year. Gillaspie is fair defensively, ever so slightly above average. Rios has actually shown a lack of range but has made up for it with his arm. De Aza has done nothing good in CF this year. Neither has Danks. Wise and Tekotte were decent. Viciedo has shown no range, but nobody should be running on him anymore. De Aza shows good range and a mediocre arm. Overall, fairly accurate. I really don't mind Beckham, but I still do not believe he would make for a good everyday shortstop. I think it's amazing how many defensive woes would be elminated with a true CFer. CF and LF are the two weakest spots, and De Aza would be just fine in LF. Wasn't De Aza better in CF last year at least? And I think that a solid 1b would really upgrade this defense as well.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) Wow, his stats blow. He's a young 22 year old with some speed. Able to play multiple IF positions.
  13. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) If you give up Rios you will pay more to replace him. Make the Rangers take 85% of the salary and the Sox get a Top 5 player and another Top 20 prospect and it is a deal. Look at what Swisher got this past offseason. Not sure why the Rangers would claim him, they knew the asking price nine days ago and it should not go down. That sounds fair and the way you wrote it the White Sox would be chipping in about $2.5 million, so if that's what the Rangers want then yeah a couple players at about that level make sense.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) Tekotte I would presume? Can he even be called up yet? Was sent down on July 30.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) So I emailed my buddy who works in the car industry about the Volt. He basically said not to get it now (or if I do, lease it) because the 2015 will be faster and have a 20-40% increase in range. The value of the current model will drop like a brick. He also warned me that the battery loses a lot of efficiency after 70k miles. I think we'll still check it out, but maybe think about leasing it for a few years instead of buying it. Re: Tesla, he knows someone who works there and apparently they have a goal of releasing the generation 3 model S in 2016 for about $35k. Yeah, that all makes sense, and that's the problem with letting it be known that you're going to release a massively upgraded version of a car in 2 years...it's like buying a new cell phone the month before the next version is released. If the tax incentives for leasing work that could be a good idea and you might be able to get the charging station installed in your home now and have that ready if you upgrade in a couple years.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) Anybody know who is coming up for Wells? I am assuming Leesman would be the 26th man for the doubleheader and optioned after the game tonight. Perhaps stuck in a holding pattern pending results of Rios movement?
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:18 AM) Haha. Errors are stupid, but at least those don't count against WHIP. Looking up the numbers though, I'm overrating the Sox range. They do need rangier and more athletic players. If I had to guess, I'd say the 1b mess, Keppinger, Viciedo, and De Aza are the guys with below average range for their positions. Not sure about Gillaspie yet, haven't seen enough of him. Rios, Ramirez, and Beckham still show solid range but their impact has been hurt this year by the mental mistakes? Is that what the numbers you saw showed?
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:13 AM) Eh, BABIP of .339 compared to his career .304, and the Angels defense has not been that good this year. That will create quite a few more hits than normal. On the Sox, that WHIP would be in the 1.30s or so. Because the Sox's defense has been stellar?
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:39 AM) Just to add one more thing to this: if you trade for a player during the last year of his contract, you no longer have the right to get draft pick compensation for the player. So if Rios gets traded next June, the team who takes him couldn't get a draft pick for him. Rios has an option year for 2015 that would stand a good chance of being picked up if he continues to produce at this level for another season.
  20. I can't wait until next year when everyone has declared Phegley a complete failure and wants him gone on waivers.
  21. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 12:22 AM) Type A,B,C free agents do not exist anymore. We'd have to make a qualifying offer on him to get compensation after his contract runs out. That basically means you're offering a very expensive one year contract to the player, if they decline and sign somewhere else then you get a first or second round pick. If they accept, you're stuck with paying them a bunch of money, this year the qualifying offer amount was about 13.3 million if I recall. It's pretty much like the franchise tag in the NFL except in the NFL nobody ever signs someone who's been franchised and this season many players who received qualifying offers were signed to other teams like Josh Hamilton, Kyle Lohse, etc... Actually, $13 million might not be a terrible offer for a 1 year deal on Rios depending on how he ages over the next 2 seasons.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) So what was the verdict in the last week? Move Beckham to SS or give Semien the first shot there if Alexei's dealt through a waiver wire move? Beckham is not moving.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) Choosing which marginal benefit you like today determines which things receive more development over time. For instance, while SD card slots are cool, they are becoming less and less common because customers apparently have other priorities. Except Microsoft continues to think they're more important than a reliable OS that doesn't freeze.
  24. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) For whatever reason I never took a look at Francellis Montas' numbers from the Peavy trade. Color me very intrigued. The strikeout numbers are great, the walks acceptable and he's in an age appropriate league. Looking good in his debut tonight so far. Was he the one who throws 100?
  25. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) I think the sox didn't do it because the previous GM was in win now mode and wanted proven MLB players not suspects (prospects). Don't forget that spending $50 million on guys who haven't played a big league game is really risky. See: Cespedes this year, for example. .719 OPS.
