QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) So, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that this new terror threat has been designed/manufactured to deflect attention away from the NSA mess while also providing some "ya see, it's for national security!" ammunition. "NSA Mess"? That's a funny way of putting it.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) I agree. I think Paulie goes into the off-season, gets medical advice, and then thinks about what impacted his swing. He won't make an excuse but if he thinks it was his back and it has cleared up, then I Think he still plays. Whether with the Sox or not, I don't know. I think he could be interested in playing and mentoring a younger team, but that is assuming the Sox add a vet or two to fill some holes they can't fill internally so they can at least give it the ole college try. And with this rotation, I don't know why the White Sox wouldn't at least try that. Wilkins will get his shot and I wouldn't look at the retreads they have signed down in AAA to be an indication they hate Wilkins. Wilkins was down in AA and part of the objective is to field some competitive minor league teams. Those are organizational moves. I really hope Paulie doesn't get into the position of convincing himself his back is fine and then having it go out in May of next year and wind up with another sad season, this time in another team's uniform. Take the 3 days of constant standing ovations at the end of the season, tip your hat and call it a career big guy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) Without knowing anything it sounds like a shoulder problem. My only guess was that they had him deliberately trying to cut back on the fastball velocity for control or movement reasons. Otherwise I'd have figured that "guy lost 10 mph for no obvious reason" would be a pretty good reason to a.) not call a guy up to the big leagues and b.) put said guy on the DL.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) Bennett was all but ignored last year, but also he was pretty unreliable when he was actually on the field which isn't like him. Marshall if anything is going to have many less targets than last year. A lot was made of Cutler excessively targeting him last year but that was just the way the offense rolled, Cutler didn't trust Hester with good reason, Davis was a joke, Bennett didn't get used, and Forte's pass-catching was ignored. When one guy has that much volume in an offense it's bad (see Forte 2010-2011 and the "pay the man" crowd not understanding how this is a drawback when justifying giving him a Brinks truck full of 100s). I'd guess that Marshall will have a similar or even larger number of targets....but that's because I expect the Bears to have a whole lot more plays on offense next year. I'd expect the %age of targets going to Marshall to decrease.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) His salary is too much to be a healthy #3, let alone one who plays 9 games a year, so unless he plays all 16 this season I would be surprised if he's on the team next year, given how many guys are on the last year of their deals. If he can stay healthy enough (and yes, we'll see) I think he'll be the guy who benefits more than anyone from a Trestman system. Marshall isn't going to get all that many more chances, but the hands/possession guy in the slot, that's the guy who should be freed up to do a lot of damage in a west coast system.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) The injuries are the entire reason this conversation is happening. I like how when someone points out he's played double-digit games every year of his career, you pretend that's equal to calling him a "Stud" (your words) while when someone exaggerates how often he gets injured you agree with it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) For what, Andy Wilkins? If he is willing to take a huge paycut, there is nothing in the system that really stops Konerko from coming back. Given the choice, yeah, I'd rather play Andy Wilkins at 1b next year rather than Paul Konerko. Either way its setting up the team to not compete, at least Wilkins is a shot in the dark chance of hitting something.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) Well, Josh Phegley is a 25 year old getting his first crack. It makes sense that when he goes for a .565 OPS over 75 at bats with nary a walk and an OBP lower than his average (.200 vs .203) that folks might question whether he can be the solution. He had a very nice start to the season at an advanced age in AAA, we'll see if that carries over. There's no reason not to run him out there because the other option is Tyler f***ing Flowers. That doesn't mean the guy will be any good - and his track record save a very small sample size suggests Phegley will blow. Garcia is actually a "top prospect". He'll be given a leash. I defy you to find someone down on him if/when he struggles out of the gate. Good God, it took us 4 years to finally give up on Gordon Beckham. Hell, Garcia has exactly as long of a track record of solid performance in AAA as Phegley does, this season. Yeah he's younger but he also has a long list of people already saying that his approach probably won't work and he swings at too many pitches out of the zone. We've actually had good discussion on that, probably because you haven't seen his approach for a month in order to declare that "Avisail Garcia sucks!" yet.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) Dayan Vicideo sucks. An illustrative, detailed, well thought out post.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Your response makes no sense. I care that you seem to think that anyone down on White Sox prospects is an impatient, bad fan, when that's simply not the case. Just drop it - it's easy to sit there and keep typing "yay everyone go White Sox these prospects aren't all bad!" and hope that 1 out of 300 can come up and put up an OPS north of .700. Unfortunately, the fact is that the White Sox have by far the worst system - and there's nothing coming anytime soon save Avisail who was acquired last week. It's also incredibly easy to sit there and say "Yes everyone on the White Sox is terrible" while ignoring the absolute fact that it takes a ton of time to develop people and guys struggling is the norm. Josh Phegley was tearing the cover off the ball for months in AAA, to the point where even you were saying he should have been up a month beforehand because he was clearly ready. We're already seeing the "gosh I hate his approach what's wrong with this guy" posts. it took about a month and was the easiest thing to predict ever. If Garcia comes up and hits .220 for a month I fully expect to see him declared a failure as well, and people will say that Hahn never should have traded for a guy with that terrible, aggressive approach. You complain about the supposed lack of talent in the org...but being completely unwilling to spend the time to develop that talent is a huge part of the reason it appears lacking to you. You declare that no one will contribute and then you declare that you're justified because no one comes up and becomes Mike Trout. That's literally the standard you're going with; a guy isn't doing what Mike Trout did, he must be terrible and useless and the system is terrible.

So...what we really need to get the Republicans on board with dismantling the organized crime system that masquerades as the modern financial industry is to convince them that the people on Wall Street are all Democrats? Hmm....

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) I love this attitude you portray around the site like fans have struck down young players on the Sox with legitimate upside. Just cut it out - there's very little worth caring about White Sox wise these days. Then why do you care so much as to defend that attitude?

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:37 AM) He reached as high as 92 in his first outing, sitting at 89-90. Next outing 87-89, and by the time he left it was 86-88. Very strange. He often was pitching with a great deal of rest, too He was mid-90's as a starter when I saw him a year ago and hit something in the range of 97-98 with a fastball for his last strikeout of the game so he kept velocity for the full time. That'd be a huge dropoff just from "tired arm".

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) Just so you know: Mike Trout turns 22 on Wednesday, he owns a career .315/.395/.546/.941 line in 1277 PA to go along with 53 career HR and 76 SB in 85 attempts (89%), oh and he leads the league in walks. Any white sox prospect who has not done this by age 21 is a failure.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 11:03 PM) Seems like Castro is going through a dead arm period or something. As long as his velocity comes back, it's got to be him. Wasn't he throwing in the high-80's when he was last called up? He's down like 6-7 mph from a year ago, maybe more.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:06 AM) Honestly, he's terrible now. He can't hit fastballs anymore and can't field. Konerko has no value. It was a fun ride, but he needs to hang them up. Nobody has hurt this team more than him this year. It's sad, but it's true. If Jason Giambi can hang on as a bench player, Konerko could hang on as a bench player if he wants to. I have no idea why he'd want to.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 08:50 PM) Quite foolish of them unless they offered him an extension to go along with his appeal. It would explain why they made zero deadline moves and could leave them more desperate now.

Jammed left thumb for Viciedo, X-rays negative, day to day. -
Stone quite clearly just said that the Rangers were expecting Cruz to appeal his suspension and were caught very off guard when he accepted it.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) Ok master of the universe. I don't want to teach anyone a lesson, and I don't want to Dan Bernstein this into a discussion about concussions and meatheads. Earl Bennett was drafted in 2008, red shirted his rookie year, and has been unable to stay on the field for one season. Once he comes back from the concussion, something else will knock him out. He's a turd who must be flushed along with your holier than thou posting style. :-P First of all, his stats in 2009 list him as playing 16 games, so you're missing a caveat. In the remaining seasons on his list, I see 14, 11, and 12 games. We're not talking about a guy playing only 2 games a year here. If you're flushing guys who have played double-digit games in every year of their career becuase they're too injury-prone, I think a lot of teams will be happy to rummage through your waste.
