  1. "Unnecessarily scary thread bump"
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) If only they had Denzel. He's nothing without Kirk.
  3. I dunno if they're scraping the bottom of the barrel or not, but if they don't have enough to target Peavy, maybe we could talk them out of something at their lower levels in exchange for Axelrod.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 10:25 PM) Nestor Molina still doing what he does best...giving up hits QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) What in the heck has happened to Nestor Molina?!? QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) Injuries AA level hitters happened to him.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 11:07 PM) Junior Lake off to a Puig-like start for the Cubs. I always wondered why he wasn't more highly-regarded as a prospect. I've seen him repeatedly and never walked away that impressed.
  6. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) Looks like Tim Hudson is out for the year (and career?). Have the Braves just entered the Peavy sweepstakes? The Braves don't seem to have the kid of high demand talent we'd want back for Peavy right now from what people have said.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) He accomplished more last year in the majors than Flowers could dream of. So did Shelton that one April (that was his name right?) a 200 at bat stint where you outperform everything you've ever done doesn't tell me much. Flowers has had better minor league seasons than him.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) It wasn't really backloaded per se. It was the second to last year of arb eligibility for him. IIrC it was less than he'd have gotten that year without the contract.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) I'd absolutely love Crain for Middlebrooks I'd hate that. That's just asking for failure.
  10. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) Picking up middlebrooks fits the former gm's MO. Lots of power, lots of strikeouts, good chance he won't pan out? Yeah, it does remind me of Flowers now that you say it.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) I'm not in love with Middlebrooks by any means, but if they're going to sell low on a talent like that, I'm happy to see if he can pan out around here. I'm not sure how much other talent I'm sacrificing to roll that dice, but in theory I'm all for it. I'd have zero problem putting middlebrooks out there sharing time with Gillaspie and seeing who earns the spot, but man, I don't think I'd take him back for anything of value. I'd take him back for something like Danks, but I'd rater even get a solid a-ballet for Crain. You can always find guys like middlebrooks who are remote chances/recovery chances. He'll in a yet we might dump Viciedo for a guy like that.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:46 PM) Legs aren't supposed to do that. Braves in the Peavy chase now? Hmm Didn't people say the Braves weren't really heavy on high ceiling guys right now?
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) I think the argument is if you think Danks was overpaid before the injury, really. I agree with Jake, the real Danks will probably be the one that pitches next year, after normal offseason workouts and whatnot. (Of course the problem with that is they backloaded the contract and only paid him $6 million last year. It's just feel a bit better if he only was owed $12 million next year.)
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 08:56 PM) Why would Sox do that? We heard this one 2 hours after "Ervin Santana on the block", igured why not see what reactions I got
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 08:53 PM) Jake, you ever hear more about what Ventura meant when speaking about Crain? The guys posted video links on twitter. http://trib.in/12MvLvx
  16. “@MDGonzales: Crain said "OK" was the best way to describe his shoulder. Will play catch Thursday. If all goes well, will throw off mound” “@scottmerkin: Crain said he feels ok: Not great but not bad. He didn't throw today. Sked to go off the mound Thursday but not certain”
  17. Mariners manager Eric wedge suffered a mild stroke. http://atmlb.com/170DuaF
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) As usual you put too much stock in some kind of bootleg stat (i.e. BABIP!) and ignore what you're see with your eyes. Like when you spent a month telling us that Keppinger would never start hitting before he started hitting?
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) Ok, what is Danks worth when he is healthy? Even excluding 2008, $13-17 million in the fangraphs world. $22 mil in 08.
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) I wouldn't consider Danks an asset. As usual, someone actually used a stat to say why tey think he's an asset, and that point gets ignored.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) You know, I can't recall seeing a study that compared economic quintile mobility by race, gender, etc. Not exactly the same question but worth adding.
  22. The 2 year old son of a member of Bush-41's security detail has leukemia, and Bush-41 shaved his head in solidarity with the kid.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 05:02 PM) C'mon. Peavy's getting traded. This is all posturing. I'm going to be skeptical until it happens, the Sox holding on to Peavy would almost exactly fit with what happened in 2007 the last time they stunk it up.
