QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 09:18 PM) I think we will see the sox begin to lose at an even heavier pace once we move through a large portion of our major league roster, we might have an outside shot at #1 The way these guys are playing, getting rid of some of them might actually help....
-
Maybe we should have called up another pitcher.

So despite hiring an offensive head coach and redoing their entire o-line, the Bears have only managed a TD and a FG against the vaunted Browns? At this point it's all on Cutler. Man he's fallen so far from Denver...

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) No, but it would be interesting if they pulled Johnson from his start tonight, and put Axelrod in the pen tonight. edit: the Charlotte game just started, so it's probably too late for that. They also wouldn't get the extra roster spot for tomorrow so someone would have to be sent down and wait 10 days before coming back.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) We are going to go into corpseball now, aren't we? This game will be 5-5 in the 14th inning.

Sac fly for Rios, 1-0 Sox.

Leadoff 2b for De Aza.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 05:09 PM) he spent 20 minutes walking around a neighborhood in the rain appearing lost. A neighborhood that isn't that big. And also "trying to get away from the unidentified man in a truck who was following him".
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) You call the cops on every single individual you don't recognize in your neighborhood who's walking on the sidewalk at 8PM? You think that the simple act of being outside and not being known by you warrants being harassed by the police? He also grabs his gun and chases them. That's the only way people will learn.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) Think the Yanks would give up on Betances? He was once nearly untouchable but his stock has fallen quite a bit. I know pitching isn't the need here but I'd love to pick him up. Sox are better at developing pitching than the Yanks. See Jose Quintana. He's working out of the bullpen now but I can see him turning it around and becoming a starter. If not he can join Jones and Webb as our future RH relievers. I have no idea whether they'd give him up...but they wouldn't give up anything of value for Keppinger.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) I assume pure salary dump? I say play Morel and Gillespie as much as possible. Might as well see if you have something, especially since I always thought Morel had some potential to be a solid 3B men (obviously before all of the injuries). This type of move, with the Yankees taking on that contract, makes a ton of sense for both teams. It's not so much money it would hamper the Yanks, they get a lot of flexibility to cover positions in an older infield, the Sox clear salary. He even knows the AL East pitching.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) If you feel your life is in imminent danger, then go for it. Like Zimmerman, a jury of your peers will decide. And once again, thank you for proving my point of why random people carrying guns on the street is a terrible idea.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) You can't say Zimmerman was pointing his gun at Martin when you have no evidence to support that. If you're making the claim that Zimmerman had his gun out and created a fear in Martin of imminent death (giving a basis for him to use his own gun if he had one, which is what Balta originally claimed), it's your burden to prove it. I don't have to prove that he DIDN'T have the gun out. And yes, it absolutely is Zimmerman's burden to prove his actions were in self defense. This is false. He had a legitimate fear because an unknown man followed him for 20 minutes then came after him on foot. That's not a reason to take a shot by any reasonable standard, but in the world where "I'm glad that we get more and more examples of people having guns. Maybe people will stop f***ing with each other if they know there's a serious consequence waiting for them", you probably ought to assume the guy coming after you is armed and just take the shot.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) BOO!!!! All trade threads should be in PHT!! IMO!!!! Normally I like the Trade Winds, but since trades are all we have going right now, I'm with this.

Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) Don't tease me. Ozzie baby! Where is he now? What's he doing? As far as Robin, if I wanted to, I could make a case he has truly failed a city this season. We're about to blow up a whole team when in reality, did Robin actually have something to work with this season? The failed defense came out of nowhere. Robin should be ashamed that his players are playing like mental midgets. True, the front office failed him in letting AJ go. That was a disaster for a manager. And true it's not his fault we have no corner infielders with power. It's also not his fault Dunn continues to wreck the lineup with his presence. But he still has Rios and the young Tank who didn't develop. He has DeAza who arguably was a good prospect and he has a fantastic pitching staff, with a great closer and setup guy in Crain. ON PAPER, didn't Robin have something to work with? Wouldn't a Joe Madden have this team right there?? Just asking. 80% of this I agree with. Robin had something to work with, I agree. Dunn is not "wrecking the lineup" with his presence. AJ Pierzynski would not be helping the number of errors at short stop. Otherwise, yes, I think Robin has absolutely failed at his job this season. This team is much more talented than how it is playing. If Konerko is finished, fine, they're not as good of a team as they were last year, but there's zero reason for them to be this much worse. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) He could have run after him and still maintained 20-25 feet of distance. That's not escalating anything, that's just keeping your eye on someone you think is suspicious. I totally agree this should have all been avoided and that it's a sad story. But that doesn't equate to a guy going to jail for a long time over a mistake of trying to play cop a little too much. But it is a great reason for why random people shouldn't be carrying guns down the street.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) It would be your burden counselor. Otherwise we can make s*** up all day. Hence why the only reasonable option is to keep nuts like Zimmerman and you from walking around the streets with guns.
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) Well then we can think that Martin had every intention on smashing Zimmerman's skull into the ground in attempt to kill him. Since he's not here to dispute that then who is to say it wasnt the case? It can go both ways. If I realized I was in a fight with a guy who did have a gun, bashing his skull into the ground until he's at least unconscious seems like a reasonable move to me.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) Why would anybody want Flowers? Santiago is a decent prospect, nothing special. Crain is good, but old. Why would the Padres ship us all those guys for one stiff, one decent lefty and a good but aging setup man? Santiago is a heckuva lot better than a "decent, non-special prospect". Flowers would be a decent backup C and actually would be a decent fit for Petco since when he does get ahold of a ball he hits it a long way. He also still has some promise to improve with time. Not a lot of value, but teams do need cheap backup catchers.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) By all accounts, it sounds as if the prosecution is putting on a pretty terrible case. They had a terrible case to begin with.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) Again, please show me evidence that the gun was known prior to its use. If Zimmerman is really running after Martin with a gun in the air, then I'd agree with you. If you think this statement is fair game...then show me some evidence that it wasn't?
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) But we do have someone he was talking to and Martin never mentioned that. Pretty sure if I think my life is in imminent danger and i'm talking to someone on the phone i'm not going to say "man, this cracker is following me." I'm going to say "oh s***! this guy has a gun and is chasing me! I gotta call the cops!" The only time they physically approached each other was during the seconds of the confrontation. Prior to that Zimmerman was in his vehicle. Unless he was waving the gun out of the window, the first time Martin could have seen that he was armed was during the confrontation, and by all accounts there were only a few seconds in there. There was never time to say "oh s*** this guy has a gun and is chasing me", by the time the gun could have been seen they were already right next to each other. He may well have seen that the guy was armed or realized during the confrontation, but only 2 people knew that...one who won't tell you and one who is dead.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Is there evidence that Martin was aware of the gun? The only witness to that is dead.
