  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) Today is Phegley's 166th game with Charlotte. I'm willing to gamble. And overall his OPS there is .768.
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 05:06 PM) Flowers has earned nothing. If he goes somewhere else and turns it around, what have they really lost? A part-time catcher. Not going to lose sleep over it. Get Phegley in the lineup, no excuse not to. And if and when Phegley comes up and struggles because he's barely had experience at the AAA level, then the White Sox have lost both of their potential young catchers. Congrats. And really, do you think that no minor leaguers pay attention when a guy earns a chance and actually gets it? A guy legitimately works his way up, earns the starting job, does everything asked of him, and then gets 2 months? You wouldn't see that an panic if you were at AA? I would. You're the one obsessed with rebuilding and dealing people away. Tyler Flowers is exactly the kind of player the White Sox should want to have on their roster if they're legitimately rebuilding.
  3. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) You can platoon Dunn. Find excuses to pinch hit for him. Put him lower in the order to get him less ABs. This really isn't as hard as you make it out to be. Furthermore, you assume that if you were to get rid of Dunn that there would be no marginal improvement from whomever replaced him. Just because you're paying someone $14 million doesn't mean you have to ride out the entire contract. Ok, who gets Dunn's at bats if he's cut? Jordan Danks? Tyler Flowers? Angel Sanchez? Keppinger?
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) I think he means a guy like Flowers and Jones. Flowers earned a shot to work through struggles for more than 2 months. That's the rule for a guy who works his way up through the minors and has success. He gets until about the trade deadline, IMO. That's what you do when you want to "Rebuild", you take guys who have struggeld and you try to turn them into something. Jones...what does his year last year earn him? And what if the pitching coach says he can get it together and his peripherals are pretty good (which is the case)? The guy on this team who I'd be more than content with benching for a few games as an actual "Get your head in the game" punishment is De Aza. Rios and Ramirez...they could use some rest at least.
  5. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) Can't wait until the FO comes around for holding players accountable for lack of results. What do you do with a guy like Konerko or Dunn? You can't send them to the minors, you can only bench so many of them, and "Cutting them" = paying the rest of their salary, which isn't exactly a major punishment.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) He's most definitely a stiff, that's for sure. I wish I had more opportunities to see him play when he was one of the most consistent players in the game just to understand what he's doing differently up there. Some of those HR he hit in his Cincinnati days were just incredible.
  7. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) Strawman. People here are mainly disappointed that Hawkins, even for how young he is, has struck out in ~60% of his ABs. The twitter complaints are admittedly dumb. Not just disappointed, people are blaming scouts for his failure already.
  8. You guys want high risk, high reward athletes who are the best player available at the time, can rise through the system rapidly, and become stars rapidly with no difficulties. And don't tweet too much about themselves. This does not compute.
  9. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) This, and long-term, Dunn isn't even hurting us. He's a sunk cost who is playing because we don't have anyone worthwhile to throw out there in place of him. Blaming Dunn is like the people who blamed Andy Gonzalez for 2007. He's garbage, but his contract is up pretty soon & it's not like he's taking PT away from someone who deserves to be out there. Finish the job. We have the core, now finish building around it. This insistence on sticking with a group of players that clearly aren't good enough isn't helping. Tear this s*** up already. Andy Gonzalez wasn't dramatically overpaid though.
  10. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) but not the lineup I'd like to see him in. I expect we will finally see Phegley in late July or early August. If he continues hitting like this, that would be a reasonable schedule for him.
  11. QUOTE (Jimbo1965 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) I'm a huge Sox fan but I have never seen a minor league system so devoid of talent. Really? How long have you been a Sox fan? Because this sentence could have been written as far back as 2006.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 01:52 PM) Rios is definitely a guy with questionable effort, or at least has been in the past. Keppinger is hard to read either way. I'm sure it's stuff that goes on behind the scenes that would determine how the staff thinks guys work. Could just be rest for these guys, though. Rios has played in over 60 consecutive games, starting and finishing each. I think he's earned a day off.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) It took Arizona 2 pitches to get more runs off of Samardzija tonight after shutting out the Sox. Shouldn't you be telling us how he's just as talented as Sale?
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) That will scare the fans who remember Dominic Brown's name already. Yeah. I definitely want the Sox to draft someone named Bryce.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 07:40 PM) Ramirez and Rios look dead tired out there. Ventura needs to get them a day off sometime soon. NEVER (add reverberating echo)
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 07:37 PM) Santiago went from starter in winter ball to closer to long reliever to starter to long reliever to starter to set-up guy. Sale went from set-up to closer to starter and then closer for less than a week and back to starter. And that was over 2+ seasons. You left out him being drafted as a starter after a full college season then becoming a setup man in the same year.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) Where's Jordan Danks? Charlotte
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) What player has had his role changed so many times in 1 1/3rd seasons in Sox history? Name him. Chris Sale
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) He has thrown practically no screwballs since he first went to the pen and he said it is because it takes him quite a while to get used to it -- he said on the radio that it was absolutely the move to the bullpen that got him to start throwing his changeup (low 80s) instead. Glad we took his best pitch away. (I never thought his screwball was his best pitch. At least it certainly wasn't last year, that was the pitch that always hung up and was killed).
  20. Does anybody else really want a Grant Balfour Ragin' Gnome?
  21. I wonder if next year we're going to hear stories from Hawk about how coming out of spring training this year he was telling Stone that the team was in trouble (we heard that story last year about 2011).
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 06:03 PM) They say why? Nope, Hawk speculating he didn't seem to look right on his last at bat and says Paulie usually will play through some pain.
