  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) I just caught the last second of the call...but either Rios or Dunn is 0/7 with RISP. I guess 0/8 now with the error? Correct. Rios is 0/8 with RISP with 3 RBI's.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) The point is, DeAza came into that at-bat as our best hitter with RISP. When you bunt and pass the buck to the next hitter, it doesn't send a good message to the rest of the line-up...even if it does happen to work, it puts pressure on Keppinger when he's been struggling out of the gate. That wasn't a sacrifice attempt, that was a bunt for a hit. If Ramirez had tried to bunt for a hit last night, I coulda lived with it.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) Might as well have had Flowers bunt there, lol. What the heck is DeAza doing? NO MORE BUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's the only one hitting decently (3/7) with RISP, along with Paulie. The team is at .145 as a whole. That bunt was an inch away from being a hit. I can live with that one. That was a rough AB for De Aza, nearly perfect bunt, raked a ball foul, then fooled completely on that last pitch.
  4. Sale looked so good for 2 batters, then suddenly...tie game.
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) We got a couple quick runs so that has to be a good sign right? yes
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) I assume it was close to going out? Caught at the wall. Looked like he killed it. Perhaps there was someone in the crowd saying "too high, too high"?
  7. Fully ruptured Achilles for Kobe confirmed, surgery slated for today, recovery time estimated at 6-9 months according to Lakers trainer.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) Would you have done that? I wouldn't have. No, I'd have told him to swing away. He already had a real good looking single up the middle on the day. A single scores that run. But if the manager is going to insist on the sacrifice, I'd rather have seen Sanchez try.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) Ramirez doesn't hit the ball to the right side all that well either. If he's that bad at everything for that situation, then pinch hit Angel Sanchez for crying out loud.
  10. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) The players haven't been executing at all. That's the only reason this thread exists. Asking Alexei Ramirez to sacrifice bunt is putting him in a position to fail and then complaining about it when he fails.
  11. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) For those of you tuned into IU's scholarship situation, G Remy Abell will transfer. No major surprise. Abell started the year strong, was very average (I think I'm being generous) during Big Ten play and then finished with a couple of decent games toward the end. Averaged 12.5 min/game. Definitely disappointed me this year, seemed like he was growing in effectiveness last year, and then didn't seem like he belonged on the court this year.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Ozzie used to have Alexei sacrifice bunt too, every time I predicted the worst and was usually right. I think the logic is "He doesn't hit 40 home runs, so obviously he's a good bunter". He's just not. You just can't have him do it. He has about the same chance of a solid single as he does of bunting into a double play in that situation.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) 1= Ventura had the pen go deep in the last three games, and didn't want to go to the pen early 2= The Sox hadn't been getting hits off of Masterson, and didn't want to have to string 3 or 4 straight hits together to score a run. 3= Crain is your top right handed reliever. Who else do you trust in a tie game? 4= Decisions like that are usually relievers choice for who they are comfortable pitching against. #2 was bad. Alexei just isn't good at bunting for a sacrifice. This is the guy who sacrificed into a triple play. When you ask alexei to sacrifice, there's a 50/50 chance he's going to pop it up. It's just not a good move, and it's just one of those things a manager needs to know about h is players.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) Our schedule is our schedule. How do we get the 89th win in late September? Start hitting better, field better, pitch better, stop bunting.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) God will tell him when he is healthy. Does he have a brother? Or Deer Antler Spray?
  16. Rich Hill is still in baseball?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????!
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) Just assuming that inning will catch up to us. At least Q dealt with the middle of their order, that's something.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) Good line by Hawk: "We can't execute and we can't score." How many years is it in a row now, no matter who is the manager, we can't bunt?? Sox might as well not even try to bunt. No reason to try. Correct! If guys aren't good at the bunt, don't ask them to!
  19. And there's my reminder of why I hate the bunt.
  20. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) I'm still totally lost, as to why you'd want Alexei to bunt, and leave the RBI work up to Gimenez...why?? Because no one will ask the manager later why he bunted but he'd get asked about it if he didn't bunt.
  21. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) Clearly, someone needs some bunt work in the cage. Or the manager needs to reconize he's been here for 6 years and he just isn't good at the sacrifice.
