  1. If 80 games of Stephen Drew and a .650 ops is worth $9.5 million, isn't 150 games of alexei and a .675 ops worth $16 million?
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 06:36 PM) A team would rather pay Drew $9.5M than trade for Ramirez and pay him $27M. No, the White Sox simply won't give up an underpriced shortstop because they're trying to compete. How much do you think the Red Sox are going to spend on their SS position the next 2 years? They're going to spend more than thatn $27 million if they want to fill that hole.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) Tenn, Lasalle and Virginia crippled themselves today though I'm sure at least one will be in. Might open the door for MTSU to slip in, I think they're better than all teams mentioned(except maybe Virginia) but I don't think they should be in the field. That being said, I'm definitely rooting for them to get in. an Iowa win not has a legit shot of being enough if they can take out Sparty.
  4. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 05:49 PM) Just for fun, do you think there was a team this offseason who would have taken that contract? I don't think there was. For God's sake, Stephen Drew signed a 1 year, $9.5 million deal with the Red Sox. He put up a .657 OPS last year and hasn't played 100 games in 2 years.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 05:13 PM) well, when pitchers arent busting him inside To be able to do that to outside pitches he has to be able to lay off the inside stuff (particularly high and inside) or be able to turn on it. Being able to lay off it is something he'll just have to learn. Being able to turn on it...that timing mechanism might help with that.
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) We know Ramirez is owed $27M. We don't know what the Sox total payroll will be from '13-15, yet you pulled a number out of thin air and you're accusing me of being deliberately misleading. A $350 million total payroll is an entirely reasonable estimate. That basically assumes the Sox spend waht they spend this year...and of course, every team in MLB gets another $25 million starting next year from the new national TV deal, so it's much more likely to be an underestimate than an overestimate. They also spent $355 million in 2011-2013. Which means, the starting SS is getting about 7.7% of the payroll or less. And I'm supposed to be scared because you repeat big numbers.
  7. Well that's it. All that stands between IU and the conference championship game is the team they can't beat.
  8. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) Cheers fellas, probably a Spring Training thing alright. 27 pitches for Floyd - 27 strikes. Did he actually throw that or did Gameday just report that? Sometimes they don't even report the accurate pitch count in the spring.
  9. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) It seems to me that maybe MLB was having issues with the version from last year so they went back to their old version. It feels like early 2000's with the flash interface. On a side note Scott Feldman is bad. Real bad. IIRC they didn't have the advanced gameday available during spring training alst year either.
  10. The first 8 1/2 minutes of the 2nd half matched the entire first half for scoring.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) Probably need 2 Certainly could, that might depend on how the other conferences fall. They'd be close with 1.
  12. Anyone watching the game here? Are Michigan's legs catching up to them from playing yesterday?
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) I will let you know at around 10:00 PM tonight. If they don't beat MSU, no chance. This. They're too far out right now, they need another big win.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) The Cubs can easily handle a payroll around $150m if they're filling that park, whereas I don't think the Royals have ever even touched $100m. Just remember though, everyone is going up. The Cubs will be able to handle $150 once the extra $25 million National TV deal money kicks in, the Cardinals (Currently ~115 mil) will be able to afford $140 million, the Reds will be able to afford $135 million, the Pirates will be able to afford $90 million, the Astros will be able to afford $15 million. Oh, and I don't know when any of those teams gets a new local TV deal, but the Cubs won't until 2019. The Cubs weren't making money when they were spending $130 million a few years ago, and that was with the stadium a lot more packed than it will be now and less debt. Even if that stadium is full, there is still so much revenue they can't get. They can't name the stadium. They can't sell luxury boxes. They can't load it with ads. The dollar amounts will not win them anything. And on the FA market, they have new nightmares like the Dodgers to contend with.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) If Morel shows he can play an adequate SS, that gives us coverage, plus Keppinger at the position. Do you really think he could "Show" that in spring training? I think that's the kind of position switch he'd have to work for months on at Charlotte to be convincing.
  16. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) Assuming that Keppinger, Gila monster and Morel make the cut, then "who's on third" will become the question of the day before each game. That combo of infielders on the roster really puts the pressure on ARam to start almost every game at Short. Do you really think Sanchez is the odd man out in favor of Morel?
  17. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) I hope that Flowers back issue isn't something that is going to come up during the season. Giminez is really a borderline major league catcher and so are the rest of the possible catchers in our system that might be brought up in case Flowers hits the DL this season. I hope this is wrong, but I am now starting to think that Morel might very well make the 25 man roster. It is possible that Hahn, KW and Ventura do not have enough confidence that Gillaspie can make the routine plays consistently at 3B. Also, the Sox have been saying that Keppinger's arm is not a concern and that he has fully recovered from the leg injury, but we have not seen enough of Keppinger in the field this Spring to conclude that he is righteous defensively at 3B. I don't think "Back stiffness" at this point in the spring, particularly for a catcher, is something totally unexpected. And continue to remember, out of the infielders we have, Morel's the guy with options. They're going to send him down because not sending him down means someone is lost. Besides, the other guys Morel would be competing with, Gillaspie and Sanchez, are outhitting him. Morels' hitting a whopping .226 in games that are recorded.
  18. This team won 85 games last year after losing a 3 win pitcher and having the worst 3b in baseball. For those 2, I add 6 wins. I think the bullpen can be slightly better, and I think we'll get more out of the other starters while we're at it since they're more stretched out, but I'm only giving 1 win on that. I'm in at 92. And last year was the first year I can recall where I underestimated the number of wins.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Also just hit my workout at noon so I can make the 5:30 OSU/Neb. I may have gotten back from the gym at 12:03 EST for some reason.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) Wow. I am guessing you arent one of them. How did that guess come from that reply? Yes, we called it that plenty.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 02:12 PM) Legit question, do people really call Bloomington btown? Yes.
