  1. Rawlings to develop a defensive metric called "SDI" to shoot down incoming Russian ICBM's include in the calculus for their awarding of gold gloves.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 09:45 AM) That was written at the end of last season. So that means that it included 2 years of Thibs coaching, correct? Correct. ANd the chart at the top makes it seem like the worst year for Bulls injuries was actually their last season of VDN.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) I would count all injuries just like they did for the MLB study. I don't following the NBA close enough to get a gauge on it. There just seems to be a lot of injuries with the Bulls. I haven't done anything with the NBA since the early 90's and most of my friends have left the league. Here's numbers for the 3 previous seasons. Nothing seems particularly drastically odd about the Bulls, even with guys like Hamilton piling up the injury days.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 08:39 AM) I would like to see how the Bulls compare to the rest of the league in injury days like we saw for the Sox. They may come a time where people start to question the " win each game at all cost" philosophy of Thibs. Basketball is a high energy game and there may be a point of pushing to hard and have the team tire out or become too injured. Do you count Rose or not?
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) Anyone hear anything about Septimo?
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 10:04 PM) Just don't know if we can afford two similar players in DeAza and Mitchell at USCF. Mitchell's probably going to end up being a 15-25 homer guy, but nowhere close to Carl Crawford's 50+ stolen bases. As everyone knows, walks and K rates and putting up at an OBP of at least 330 will be the key. He's definitely an exciting and dynamic player, and my hopes are much higher for him than Walker. You could definitely see a Mitchell, Thompson and Hawkins "dream outfield" if all three of those guys can make contact, because the athletic and defensive tools are plus ones. If ADA stays healthy this season and there are 2 outfielders knocking on the door, it's entirely possible the team may decide he's the one to move. He's the oldest, the others have a long time pre-arb, and he'd be able to bring a guaranteed major league return. If ADA doesn't stay healthy this year, then we may very well want the extra depth and use that as a way to ease one or two of these guys in.
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 8, 2013 -> 08:08 AM) Whenever I hear of Furcal, I recall his back injury, which sounds like it was very similar to Morel's, and that Furcal (like Todd Helton) had it surgically fixed and Brent chose not to, and now he is looking at being sent down or cut. If he had had the surgery, he would have likely been ready to go by now. Someone recommended a surgery for Morel? This is the first I've heard of it.
  8. Gunner Kiel to transfer. Also I think Mark Priors arm hurts.
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) We'd definitely lose quite a bit defensively and I'm not sure how much we'd really gain offensively. Yes, Alexei sucked last year, but his walk rate completely plummeted and he lost most of his power. I just didn't see anything physically to suggest he's going to be that bad of a player going forward. Worst case scenario, I think he'll rebound with the bat to some extent this year. We wouldnt' gain enough offensively to offset what we've lost. That means we need to get something legit back in the deal, major league ready, to make it worth our while.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) It's Indiana. On this board it means anything to do with them will be seen through Orange colored classes instead of with any kind of objectivity. Dude, at the very least it's crimson colored glasses. Orange is Tennessee. Yuck. I'd say we probably have as much of a problem with people complaining about it as we do with it happening. I wouldn't have allowed the nets to be cut down after a loss, but I can't blame this class of seniors for it, given what they came into. But if they come out flat on Saturday, then I'll hang this a lot more on Crean's preparation. You can't come out flat 2 games in a row and hang a banner. Honestly, what bothers me a lot more is that they'll hang a banner either way. Let the kids have their press conference, I can even let the kids have the Assembly nets...but they have to earn something that hangs.
  11. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) Here's another possibility: If Keppinger can handle SS defensively (he has in the past), trade Alexi, keep Carlos at AAA, move Keppinger to SS, and start Gillispie. We wouldn't lose a thing. The offense would actually be much improved. Under the above scenario, you could dump Alexi's contract for nothing. We'd be going from a very solid defensive SS to a below average defensive SS. I could understand why you'd do it, but again, I need a solid major league return as a reason to do it (and a healthy Morel would be huge as well).
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 07:12 PM) Eh, people were laughing at MSU last year, especially UM fans. If they win Saturday they deserve to laugh.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) Hahn deserves a lot of credit for convincing Sale to agree to a below-market extension. Correct. If he stays healthy, Hahn may very well have just created a contending team for the next 7 years. An underpaid ace can do that.
  14. QUOTE (Lillian @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) I just really like Sanchez and would like to see him get a shot. I know that he's very young, but the scouting reports say that he can play. He will get a shot, it just might not be this year. And it shouldn't be this year, at least not with a team wanting to be competitive. He's got a very good chance of taking Beckham's spot next year.
  15. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) It's all Kirk Hinrich's fault. Kinda. That deal really hurts if Rose isn't back.
  16. I was with you until you called Grady Sizemore a "big left handed bat" and acted like he would cost anything. If you make this type of move, it's a season punting move, so talk to me if we roll out of the gate 15-30 or if the Cards give us a major league piece.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) Even if you lose him for an entire year, the contract should still be a bargain. That is how good this deal is. Sale could put up $32 million of value this year. Hell he could do that and not win the Cy Young. Verlander was $30.8 million last year in the fWAR world.
  18. Sale under team control through 2019. Keep him healthy and the most important position on the roster is filled through 2019 if that's right.
  19. QUOTE (Sockin @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) Scratch that, 5 years, 32 million. https://twitter.com/DanHayesCSN/status/309760238226128897 https://twitter.com/DanHayesCSN/status/309760956408410113 Thank you!
  20. CBS Version: I have to run out, someone tell me when it becomes clear if this year is 1 of the 3 years included there. Basically, is he under contract with options through 2017 or 2018?
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) I don't understand a lot of the frustration over Rose not returning yet. I know everyone pointed to Shumpert's return as a sign that Rose is taking too long to recover, but Shumpert's playing about 20 minutes a night so far and doesn't look strong at all (terrible shooting percentage). At this point, I'm beginning to think it's best just to let Rose sit out remainder of the year. If there was a real, legit chance that Rose would be out for the year, it was insanity for the Bulls to put themselves into luxury tax territory while simultaneously losing Asik. They lost players to save salary, then added enough players to try to stay competitive, but the 2nd step put them in tax territory, where they'll face the multi-year penalty if they do it again. If they wanted to stop caring about the tax and stay 100% competitive this year because they were expecting Derrick back, great. Going over the Tax when there's a good chance of 0 Rose, madnenss.
  22. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) 5 years, (up to) $60 million. Sounds like a steal if the kid produces like he did last year. Hopefully he stays healthy and lives up to this deal. I'm betting it's actually 6 years and $60 million if both options are picked up. That'd put the regular deal as 4/$35 with 2 options, each at about $12.5 million. Love it. Edit: Of course, I'm counting this year in the "4 years", you could say it's covering the next "3" years and then 2 options for FA years.
  23. What you said is not what AG Holder said. What you said is "The President will not bomb US Citizens on US Soil". Read it again. He explicitly adds the clause "not engaged in combat". The problem comes about if the only person who can decide whether someone is "engaged in combat" is the President.
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Based on nothing of course. He did have that "Elbow tightness" issue in May last season when they declared they were moving him to the bullpen. That wasn't a good sign.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) Thanks John. They locked you up and you rewarded them with 53.2 IP of 5.70 ERA and 4 months on the DL. Worry about living up to your own contract, instead of how much $$$ your teammates are making. If Danks yelled at his shoulder more, we'd have won the division last year.
