  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) It's funny that it changes during the regular season. 6 IP, 80 pitches is very different than 6 IP, 120 pitches, yet teams only seem to look at IP when protecting their young starters. I don't feel like that's been the case with our guys, they usually seem to focus on that ~100 pitch mark as the time to take guys out. Innings is a little easier to compare across pitchers and it's really useful in telling a pitcher's value (you clearly want the guy who throws more innings successfully), so innings gets used as a stat a lot.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) I think Izzo develops his players. I think Izzo gets his players ready for tournament competition better than any coach I can think of.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) I honestly dont understand your point at all. Are you saying he didnt have a disappointing year considering the expectations? I think IU overall underachieved even with the regular season title. I mean, yeah, at some level, the Butler and Illinois losses shouldn't have happened, but man, that conference this season was absolutely grueling. There's a reason it almost came down to a 4 way tie, the #10 team in the conference could beat the #2 team on any given day.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) More roster cuts after today's game. Mark Gonzales reporting Simon Castro and Santos Rodriguez will be among them. Unsurprising. I have a feeling we'll see both of them on major league rosters before the end of this year.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) But i'm not the first or last person to question Crean's coaching ability. You say that as though it proves anything. I think Phil Jackson became too wedded to his triangle offense format and Thibs rides his starters too hard.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) With the system that they are building and the ability to have a payroll north of $150 million annually, yes they better get to a position in which they are the favorites to win that division every season. Do you think they are going to stop adding players? They will also have high pick at the top of each round next year again. Most people on this board hate the Cubs because they are on the other side of town, or blue, or their parents told them they should a long time ago. That doesn't matter. I am trying to look at this objectively. I think Theo and Jed are smart guys. I am not going to dismiss them just because they are running the Cubs and for some reason that makes them destined to fail. Doesn't make any sense. I think in 2015 they are contending. Where do they get this ability to have this payroll larger than any other team in the division? Yes they have a large fanbase that will sell out the park, but they also don't have the high-priced amenities (luxury boxes, ad space) that other teams enjoy. Furthermore, they're locked into the same TV deal as the White Sox; it gets renegotiated in 2019, they're not going to have Dodgers money coming any time soon. They'll get an extra $25 million from the national TV deal, but so will every team.
  7. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 02:33 PM) B1G fans can turn a blind eye with their Crean hate and say Crean can't coach or develop, but it's a huge reason he's racking up huge recruiting classes right now. Each kid keeps pointing to "how he develops players", Vonleh especially. We get it. Everyone hates Crean outside of IU and MSU fans. Indiana used to have a coach that everyone despised too. As long as Indiana is winning, doing it the "right way", and kids are awesome off and on the court, IU fans are going to be estatic. Crean isn't nearly good enough at throwing chairs.
  8. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) Pure saber rattling. The minute a N.Korea boot steps on S.Korea soil. It's on like donkey kong. Just remember, they don't just have the bomb and the ability to hit Japan, they also have enough artillery pointed at Seoul to level it before anyone replies. "On like Donkey Kong" = several million civilians dead on both sides and the entire region shattered.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) Great pick-up for Seattle. Multi-dimensional QB, multi-dimensional WR, great RB. Seattle is gonna be pretty good on offense next year. Yeah, how you game plan for that, I'm not quite sure.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) Has Stevens ever mentioned Indiana? Is Indiana really one of those top 5 programs? He just took two teams from Butler to the championship game, so it's not like you need to be one of "those" programs to win consistently. I dunno, I think he's Duke bound or he's staying where he is - making a ton of money with half the hassle of a big time program. His dad played football at IU and I believe his mom is on the faculty there.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) In what world is it Crean's place to say anything? Unless Meyer made a specific remark to Crean (which is possible), Crean should have just kept his mouth shut. Indiana won the game, you dont need to go and find a guy to try and publicly embarrass him. Last I checked, Crean wasnt even at Indiana when that happened, he should be thanking Sampson because if it wasnt for that cluster, Crean wouldnt coaching Indiana. Like I said, I can't imagine this happened without something precipitating it, and whatever that was, we'll never know about it.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) So You are ok with his actions yesterday? As far as Meyer being "central" or "at fault", IU hired Kelvin Sampson, whoever hired him ruined the program. I'll grant you shouldn't do that on the cameras, but I think even a Michigan fan would guess that there was something else that precipitated that reaction other than what happened 4 years ago, so we're probably only getting 1/2 the story. But Hell, I also really don't mind anyone on that staff being called out, screamed at, or anything else. That includes the people who hired that blankety-blank and then failed to monitor him. So yeah, it looks bad on TV, but I'm not going to be mad for him getting called out. If nothing else...anyone who wants to hire that guy as their head coach in the next couple years might surreptitiously put in a call to Crean and see what it was about.
  13. Isn't Danks starting the season as starter #5?
  14. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 01:41 AM) I saw that lefty they got from the Reds, Travis Wood I think, and I'm wondering wtf they made that trade for? He's not your future unless you're expecting something especially bleak, so why not try to sign some free agent or something to take that spot and just hold onto your player until the deadline when the relief demand is higher? What's the point there? Why $7M for Concepcion, who from his scouting report seemed like the type who gets 5th round money in the Rule-4 draft? Put that money into the team instead of throwing it away, I mean if that $2M beach house isn't for sale, that doesn't mean you should go spend $1.5M on a townhouse next to a swamp. I think the buttholes over there are just trying to tear s*** down so they can say they built it all themselves. I think it's a legacy thing, and it's why they dumped Tyler Colvin and took on someone else's bust, and why they having been itching to eat almost every penny on Soriano's deal, and why they want Garza gone so bad, etc. Why spend $40 million on Edwin Jackson when the team isn't going to be in a position to compete for the first 2 years of the deal?

    Lisa Simpson, walking into detention:
  16. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) I know, Michigan has no one to blame but themselves. The two layups at the end have to fall, too. Just think about what the one and one rule is. We just fouled you, but you only get one free throw because you weren't shooting and we have enough fouls for you to go to the line, but not enough for you to automatically get two free throws. However, if you make the first you get two after all. WTF? It creates drama at the end of high school and college basketball games so I guess it adds that element and you won't hear many coaches complain about it because just make your free throws, but the logic behind the rule is truly strange. The other thing to remember is that they're playing a 20 minute half, not 2 12-minute quarters. I don't think I'd like just giving a team 8 fouls until the bonus.
  17. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) I thought his stuff was flat, especially his slider, the majority of the year. Particularly from the Boston debacle on. I think that was a symptom of being tired out. That shows up in his fastball velocity too.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) Does Reed look bigger? Saw he was hitting 94 last week which is closer to what scouting reports had him at in the minors than what he showed a lot of times last year. I think you're completely off on what his velocity was. Perhaps you're only remembering the end of the season, he clearly lost some velocity at the end of the season, but take a look at the chart, he was at 93-96 for the first half of the season. If he looks a bit bigger, hopefully that's an effort to make sure his conditioning lasts for the full season.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 06:21 PM) There isn't even anyone I feel comfortable picking to the Final 4. Just assume the Big Ten is better than everyone else. They've been beating the living crap out of each other for the last 3 months. These would be 1-2 loss teams if they were in the same conference as the Zags. Unless IU comes out with the number 1 overall, every one of these teams will be underrated.
  20. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) Hindsight is 20/20 and not that it would've mattered considering Indiana doubled up Michigan in rebounds but why wouldn't Michigan have anyone down there to possibly get an offensive rebound. I would've taken the risk of fouling or not being set defensively. I think McGary had 4 fouls, right? If nothing else, you've got to protect him. Look how close he came to that last tipin.
  21. oh, and I may as well give my occasional commercial related props. Applebees, with Bobby Knight saying "That's not how you throw a chair". Well done.
