  1. Anyone who ever complains about Indiana and home court gets the reply "Michigan states clock".
  2. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) That certainly didn't help IU. They stop the game in the middle of a possession to review Nix hitting Zeller in the balls on purpose. Somehow they determine it's not a foul so IU gets to start the possession cold. I don't get stopping the game without making a call. That could have been reviewed after the play. To be fair...Zeller did keel over after beig hit in the nuts.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) Gio is not amongst those listed as getting steroids... http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/896...aseball-players So Gio got $1000 of stuff that hasn't been banned yet from a steroid clinic. Somehow this doesn't raise my confidence. 5 more names on their list, including whoever the Padre was that led the NL in SB last year.
  4. Spartans are getting every loose ball and tipped rebound this half. They're outworking Indiana.
  5. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) Maybe he's a funny guy? Unlike 2007 there is NO ROOM FOR HIM ON THIS TEAM. And Ozzie is not in charge of putting together the team. By my count, we have 1 infield utility man, Angel Sanchez. They may go with Danks and Wise as the backup of's, but if they want a utility guy who can play middle infield positions, I don't see anyone else.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) The way Paulie was hitting during the wrist injury.... the numbers Johnson would have put up were at least gonna be comparable... Again, only known in hindsight. Paulie played through this bone chip for a year and a half.
  7. Honestly, all the Indiana alum in this group cares about is the Oaken bucket game. We're going to get slaughtered for the rest of the season anyway, but you can't take away that one game.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) For the most part. Essentially, not having minor league depth, to some extent, reduces your ability to let guys like Konerko and Dunn sit and get healthy because you will lose too often due to the terrible quality of the replacements. As such, they will play and perform better than replacement level players, and thus better than projected, even though injured, but they will not be performing at their peak physical condition. The fact that we're outperforming PECOTA so regularly argues to me that this doesn't really make a difference if it's the case...if guys were getting injured and playing through it when they should be resting, that shouldn't translate to extra wins. It might well translate to an extra win or two once, but it's going to sneak up and bite you the next season at the best.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) I think you just proved my point for me. So what's the downside in playing guys if it produces extra wins?
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) In retrospect, I could have dealt with 3 weeks of Dan Johnson while Konerko rested up -- but I don't know if I would have made the decision at the time if Paul said he was good enough to go. The problem was that there was no guarantee 3 weeks would have done it. According to our resident physician and what we could get from the Sox post-season statements, there was a reasonable chance that if they tried to remove Konerko's bone chip, that would be it for him for the season. It turned out to be wrong, but that couldn't have been known before the surgery was attempted. If you had a 50% chance of dealing with Dan Johnson from June - October, wouldn't the decision change?
  11. QUOTE (balfanman @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) Listening to the Score on my way home from work last night they mentioned that Mike Trout reported extremely overweight to camp. Anyone know if this is true? Lilnk
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) It has never been about just Josh Smith. He is just the latest guy on the block. LIke I said way back at the beginning, the Bulls could have used this year to reform their team for the future when Rose will actually be Rose again. Instead they wasted the chance, and will be back shopping in the Nazi Mohamed aisle next year. it sure seemed like it was about Josh Smith for you a page or two ago? I'm not sure that you're wrong on the 2nd half, but if you're saying that the Bulls should gamble $16 million+ a year on Josh Smith being the key piece, you're nuts.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) You mean like the White Sox finishing 8 games over .500 last year despite going 11-17 in September with most of the lineup putting up OPS's in the .700s? Or like Konerko admitting to playing through a wrist injury for much of the year because his replacement would almost certainly put up worse numbers? I honestly wonder how many times Konerko played when he was hurt simply because the White Sox did not have a better fallback options. The solution, obviously, was to shut down Konerko and Youkilis in July and August and finish with an 82 win team?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) There are plenty of other stars who have been, and who are on the block in the NBA. The Bulls will do nothing to attempt to get them. They are too worried about the luxury tax instead of titles. So at what point did this stop being about Josh Smith?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) They lost Asik because they tried low balling him. They are lucky that Taj didn't challenge them at the same game or he would be gone too. And why might they have done that? It doesn't register to you that paying $15 million a year for a guy playing like an $8 million a year player (Boozer) might cause the Bulls to low-ball a player?
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) You can't win an NBA title with one superstar caliber player anymore. Paying a guy superstar dollars doesn't turn him into a superstar player.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) And without creative thinking, we can keep enjoying Marco Bellinili and Nate Robinson. I'd rather pay them $3 million and Taj Gibson $9 million than Josh Smith $12 million (and that's low-balling him).
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) Better than adding the Rip Hamiltons and Kirk Hinrichs of the world... Yes. I completely disagree. Tying up a huge contract alongside Rose is the kind of move that makes it harder to find the room to find value players with lower contracts and makes it much more likely that the Bulls will dump contributors like Deng or Noah due to the multi-year luxury tax. Heck, great example; Bulls lost Asik for a similar reason; Smith would certainly cost them Butler in a year or two. For every $5 million they blow on Hinrich, they've wound up signing a guy like Robinson or Korver who has been a legit contributor as well.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Mostly that the Bulls are going to waste the opportunity to do nothing, again, and probably waste Rose's career without a title win. They refuse to take any chances to make themselves better for the long run. Do you really think that committing long term money to Josh Smith has even a reasonable chance of "making the bulls better for the long run"?
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:41 PM) And how much of it is just pure luck? Pure luck over 1, even 2 seasons makes some sense. We're talking about a trend that has lasted over a decade.
