QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) And ignore the entire history of the filibuster? I guess Stewart should have said it instead, then it would have gotten posted... Hilarious!

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:31 PM) That was pretty tame and it is merely a stance on abortion. Abortion is still a pretty hot buttom issue in America. Gay rights and gay marriage far less so. You still have those that oppose gay rights, but it seems to me that the majority of America - greater than 60% - support gay rights, and those that oppose gay rights are lambasted by the general media pretty well. I suppose you'd be shocked to learn that 65% of Americans believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases, 70% oppose overturning roe v. wade, and gay marriage support topped 51% for the first time this year. I suppose it's positive that people are starting to just think gay marriage is normal and not even a hot-button issue.

Yearly Baseball Prospectus PECOTA Season forecast

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) But now how much of this is the training and coaching staff and how much is it the team actually targeting durable players? Or how much of this is coaching staffs letting players play through injuries when they should be resting? EDIT: Point being, you can pinpoint the biggest reason why the Sox have beaten projections (staying healthy), but you can't pintpoint the reason as to why (because it could be anything). If it was the coaching staff playing players who were unproductive because of injury, or the coaching staff not giving players the time they need to heal, the end result wouldn't be more wins. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) Yeah, I think you missed the point. This is a group of people trying to figure baseball out -- it makes perfect sense to investigate the flaws and exceptions of your model in order to improve. Using this info, Cameron just made a compelling argument that the quality of a medical staff can add several wins per season to a team by preventing replacement level players from getting playing time. It's super interesting and makes a ton of sense and we never would have known if someone hadn't done all this work and spent time and energy analyzing it. But the longer you try to look at information like a war between nerds and normal people, you're going to miss out on great insights like this. It also puts a potential value on an aspect of the coaching staff that could be compared with the value of a free agent acquisition. If the Sox coaching staff is adding ~2 wins a year through health, then that's the equivalent of $5 million spent on the FA market. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) Obama basically used that exact Homer Simpson political blue print to win 2 elections. And Bush used it to launch 2 wars. Does anyone have anything to say other than non-funny one-liner attempts?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) Because Tebow has long been considered to be a good-hearted Christian who does nothing but work hard to make it as a QB both in college and the NFL. Supporting a hateful fear-mongerer while proving to be a s***ty backup QB for the team with the worst QB corps in the league, suddenly the light is not so bright and cheerful for Tebow. Like when he cut that super bowl ad for Focus on the Family?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 07:38 AM) He makes a ton of cash on it every year. It was the same reason McCourt was in the business. Plus when he sells, he will make a ton of money again. Hell, he got the taxpayers of Florida to hand him nearly a billion dollars. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 08:57 PM) Also, Tebow is a dick. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/2172688...ws-greatest-sin Anyone want to give me a reason to believe the response will be anything other than an outpouring of pride?

Link. Either a desperate hail mary or something they found was actually effective when they tried it out.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 16, 2013 -> 04:05 PM) I am looking into attending one of the White Sox games at Miller Park prior to the season starting. I cannot find tickets anywhere. Possible that Brewers single game tickets aren't on sale yet I guess. Brewers single game tickets go on sale Feb. 23.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 16, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) I have a couple things....I have heard rumors on the score this week that Beckham looks a lot bigger and has put on over 15 pounds. He has been a guy in the past who loses a ton of weight during the season. Has anyone seen a story about this anywhere? Also, with Dewayne Wise probably a lock to make the roster, what happens with Blake Tekotte? Does he just go into the Charlotte OF? I like him as a big time stole base threat off the bench. Is Jordan Danks out of options? Link

Oladipo rolled his ankle at the end of the first half here. Just making it back out onto the court after an extended 1/2time. Could be important by the time Michigan State rolls around. -

QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Feb 16, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) First, I want to apologize if I offend anyone on this thread with my opinion about Ventura, a great individual and a beloved member of the White Sox as well as our current Manager. However, the news of Ventura declining an offer to extend by the White Sox and then some of his comments caused me to return to some of the concerns I had when Kenny signed him. At that time it seemed like Ventura was a reluctant warrior, a wealthy guy who was content living in California, laying in the sunshine and drifting with the tide. I considered the possibility that maybe Kenny just tried too hard to get Robin to agree to Manage. I was also concerned about hiring someone for a job that he never aspired to. In my last post I stated: Ventura, by his own words is not going to be here for too long no matter what. I am concerned that if we have a losing season in 2013 that Ventura may be a lame duck the following season with no intention of staying here. Again, I apologize for seeming negative about our chances this season but it is possible that we end up lower than some of us expect in the standings. At that point there might be a larger chorus of Sox fans questioning management and Robin himself. So what would Robin do at that point with the remaining year on bis Contract? Would he ask the Sox for the extension he just refused or would he play out the last season of his Contract as a lame duck? I'm asking. And I believe that this scenario must have been considered by Sox management when they offered Robin the extension. In short, they wanted to avoid the possibility that things would get to that point after just two years. Every one of your points here strikes me as somewhat reasonable, and possibly worth considering. Here's the part where you demolished your own argument: Not only did it not shine any dignity on you given your choice of language, but despite being asked for examples, you couldn't provide any, it's just how you feel about them.
