QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 12:01 AM) Thanks everyone for your responses. Having read them, I'm definitely going to bring this to REI's attention. I don't think I'll mention the guy's name, but I at least want them to know it's something that needs to be addressed. Other thing to keep in mind is you might not be the only one who has had that problem at that store...the only way that management might realize they have a problem with a specific store is if a couple different people make their issue known.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:04 AM) Yeah. Tell your home invader that you're a real man because you make deep thoughts. See how that works. It's thoughts like that which make liberals seem like pompous elitists living in a fantasyland. It's willingness to ignore everything else that happens with guns and focus solely on the one, incredibly rare situation of successful home invasion defense that makes us not trust the judgment of gun owners.

QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) I carry a gun because my life and my family's lives are the most important things to me. If that was the case, then you wouldn't have a gun anywhere near your family. You carry a gun because emotionally you feel stronger. To the point where you're willing to ignore the piles of dead bodies, the study after study that says youre putting every one of your family's lives in jeopardy, and so on. But again, we get the emotional reaction. The "I know I'm safer and you're dumbasses, look how manly I am, everyone should be scared of me!" response. Maybe you're in a place where you have to shoo away coyotes, fine, have one locked up and used as a last resort. Great. But you said the word "Carry".

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 10:37 PM) I think that should have been called but what a terrible play call with the game on the line. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 10:39 PM) Both players were making contact. Good no-call. By the rulebook definition, it was probably a penalty because the defender continued contact for 7 yards instead of 5. But man, I know refs shouldn't call the game differently depending on the circumstances, but if we added up all the plays over the year where contact continued for 7 yards instead of 5, the season would be non-stop illegal contact penalties.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 10:56 PM) I totally thought the Ravens were done for after they lost Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs earlier in the year. Deer. Antler. Spray.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) I thought Heat is struggling vs. teams playing with 'big' guys up front or something like that? Whatever they're doing right now...might not matter one iota when they try to "Flip the switch" come April.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Nicely timed MLB MLB @MLB We thought we'd take this brief pause to remind you pitchers and catchers report in 8 days. -

Given what happened in the stadium right before they showed this...it would have been great if they'd had an ad with the full Mandarin speech keyed up.

QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 08:38 PM) Crap, wasn't watching. Lights are out? Knocked out the TV audio too.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 08:34 PM) This game is F'N OVA! Apparently the electric company agrees.

Not very admirable for the 49ers.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) I think the 49ers D bought into their own hype. They have been absent The Deer Antler Sprayers have, overall, done a pretty good job of containing Kaepernick so far.

Big throw for Deer Antler Spray!

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) Sale and ?? You're replying in a thread titled "Quintana vs. Santiago".
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 05:08 PM) I don't like the odds of the third worst farm system in baseball producing three starters. When that system already seemingly has produced 2 starters (in addition to a ton of releivers) in the last couple years...it's not that stunning...and probably is a big sign that the "Third worst farm system in baseball" moniker doesn't really have the meaning you're trying to bestow upon it.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 05:06 PM) Going forward, we got Quintana off the scrap-heap. It's certainly not unimaginable that we could do something similar again, for muuuuuch less than $12M/year There are already 4 or so of those options in our org, signed this year.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) The problem is unless all three of Danks, Quintana, and Santiago prove to be capable starters the Sox are going to need a pitcher in 2014. And if any of them don't...then Castro, Rienzo, and a couple of the iffier-guys like Axelrod and Leesman, plus the usual Cooper Fix-em option give us a number of candidates already in the org who could step up and take that position.
-
QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 03:15 AM) Quintana had a few starts last season where he went deep into the game. However, he also had a few starts where he was roughed up early. Given that, he looks like an adequate although sometime shakey #5 starter. One other thing worth remembering about Quintana was that the Sox pretty much got rid of his off-day throwing routines (ditto with Sale) in the 2nd half to try to protect his arm. It almost certainly gave him a chance to stay on the field longer, but one obvious possible side-effect of doing so could be that he would take longer to get his arm warmed up and into a game on gameday. Thus...late season slow starts...might have fit into that picture. It was certainly easy to predict that if Quintana got through the 2nd inning...that was the last scoring the opposition was going to do.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) I think I was so stunned by the whole situation that I didn't know what to do. I kind of wish I had made a bigger deal about it, but that's not my style. I'm an incredibly easy-going guy so I don't ever get worked up over stuff like this, but this was different. I'm the guy who still tips 20% at a restaurant even if I have a terrible server (usually I'm an over-tipper). I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. But this guy truly pissed me off. And yes, direct quote: "We really don't do returns." What an asinine statement. You should call or email up the chain through their website. You don't have to give the person's name if you don't want, but my impression of service at REI has been that they'd probably like to know about that experience.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 3, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) I agree there's too much emphasis on farm systems, however the Sox system is baron when compared to others in MLB. I agree. The White Sox's system is clearly a medieval nobleman.
