  1. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) So punish the people that follow the law with more laws that do nothing to stop the problem. Got it. How do you know that a law will do nothing to stop the problem if it is untried?
  2. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) I never understand this argument. So if I'm being attacked by 10 men who intend to hurt me, it makes sense to take away the one hope I have because its doubtful I have the skill and expertise to take out all ten? What's the alternative? That I simply have no weapon and am overran and slaughtered immediately. I don't know. Seems like a weak attack point. Maybe I can't get them all and will die anyway but the alternative isn't much better. Of course, as usual...the thing that actually happened...surviving because you didn't pull a gun, rather than dying in a firefight...is not considered at all.
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) I would have done my best to make sure none of them got anywhere near me or my family. Just because it wasn't needed at that time doesn't mean it would never be needed. Balta asked if I could imagine a situation where I would need it. I didn't have to imagine it, I was almost in it. No, I did not ask if you could imagine it. I asked if you'd actually had to do so.
  4. QUOTE (MEANS @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) have we confirmed Lamar isn't greg? yes
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) My answer is that your question doesn't matter. Strawman. My 'need' doesn't figure into this. No, it figures into this directly. Because 99% of the mostly BS excuses for why people need guns have been as "Protection", neglecting the additional risk that having it puts the owner in completely. But if people can't envision a situation where having more than 10 shots available prior to reloading is necessary, even from the "pro gun side", then you've made the case expertly for why they're unnecessary.
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) Oh, but that's one in a million, an outlier, doesn't count, didn't happen, was a planted story by the NRA....... Oh, ok, so I should go find the list of 100 people per day who get gunned down in this country and you'll be emotionally moved by each one of their stories?
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) Who are You to judge what I NEED? Seriously, it is none of your business. YOU are not the arbiter of magazine size, or of what I need, or want. That's not what I asked at all. I asked for you to judge whether you had ever been in a situation where you needed to fire off more than 10 rounds consecutively. I offered no opinion. Based on your reaction, I think the answer is clear.
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) More like criminals don't follow the laws already, so why make more laws that only serve to f*** with the law abiding people even more and do nothing to actually help the situation that you are so SURE the government needs to fix to begin with. Gun magazine restrictions will do NOTHING to prevent crime or murders. All they will do is now make criminals out of otherwise law abiding people who don't want to give theirs up. My Glock came with a 17 round clip. That is not 'high capacity', that is standard capacity. Have you ever been in a situation where, for any reason, you've needed to fire off more than 10 bullets consecutively?
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) It doesn't take long for an honest sale to end up in the hands of criminals. The proposal out there to have gun shows and dealers start offering background checks as a service sounds entirely reasonable to me and would generate some additional revenue for those businesses while at it.
  10. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) Um...Moustakas and Hosmer would be in the top-3 best position players on the Sox right now. And we'd have a dozen threads reminding us how big of failures they were and trying to turn them into platoon players or replace them.
  11. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Per the Bulls text message service: Nate Robinson named Eastern Conference player of the week.
  12. If that's the case, then they needed to have him on Burke more often. The shots that dude was hitting were unbelievable.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) Option is harder to use as the field condenses. That being said, I think that the 49ers would have been better served trying a roll out with a run/pass option for Kap. I think it was on that same drive, but I definitely remember them trying a rollout late in the game and having Kaep throw the ball away because nothing was available.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) He's got some growing to do, which is fine. We knew that when we drafted him. Similar things were said about Jimmy Butler last year.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) They probably should have went with Alex Smith in the red zone or at least Bill Cowher thinks so. I was thinking about this a bit earlier...I don't think I'd have made that kind of switch, but I think we really got to see the downside of having a QB starting his 10th game in the Super Bowl there. Just those subtle rookie things. Joe Flacco couldn't make that kind of back shoulder throw even last year, they talked about that during the broadcasT. That's a tough throw for anyone to make...but the rookie QB situation made it even tougher. The Ravens showed blitz early on that play. I can't remember the playclock, but if it wasn't running down, a veteran QB would have seen that and adjusted either the protection or audibled to something with a hot read. If they were out of playclock...that's a consequence of having a rookie QB too. They blew 2 TO's in the 2nd half...in part on the rookie QB, including the one in the red zone. That's the downside of having a QB in his 10th game.
  16. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) I wish the Sox had (could get) Moustakas and/or Hosmer right now. Yeah, it'd be fun to have more people that we're tired of and talking about non-tendering.
  17. Nice long interview with the Cardinals GM about how the team uses advanced stats/"Sabermetrics".
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) I was just making a joke. Someone on here said the Packers wouldn't win the NFC North for three years. All kidding aside, I think things will be a lot more difficult for the 49ers next year. A much improved Seahawks team. I also think the Rams will be better and the 49ers already struggle with them. Also, the 49ers have had pretty much no injures now two years in a row. That probably won't continue. I still think they will be a playoff team next year. Yay, football talk! Perhaps what interests me the most about the 49ers this offseason is what they do about their backup QB Spot. It's obvious they're going to let Alex Smith go for money, but that leaves them with only Kaep as a QB...and he hasn't been put through the full season as a "Running QB". I could actually see the Seahawks taking a step back next year. They got big time performances out of some guys who had "Supplements", they definitely caught some teams by surprise with Wilson, they had the weakest schedule in that division, and they got some help from the replacement refs.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) Oh Balta, that joke flew right over your head, circled around and flew over it again We're still on that line of jokes? Is the target even coming around to read it? I was hoping we were back to actually discussing football.
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) I don't see the 49ers winning the NFC West for at least 3 years. Why's that? We can be impressed at what the Ravens did to slow down Kaepernick on the running game, but he's still a QB in his 10th start. A full offseason as the assumed starter could make him even more effective out of the passing game. Their defensive front is young and very talented, and I don't believe they're going to be losing many of those guys for cap reasons any time soon. Their skill positions aren't filled with elders. Moss and Gore are up there in years, but they have another RB on the roster already, and Moss isn't their main threat. Their O-line has 1 person over 30. And to top that off, they're loaded with draft picks this year.
  21. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:37 AM) I don't give a s*** if you trust my judgment or not. That's more jackassery on your part. And once again, you're too stupid to understand that this is exactly why millions of law abiding gun owners have no interest in negotiating with the pigs. Yeah, no idea why anyone would think that you have an anger problem.
  22. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:27 AM) Could you be any more pompous? Point to the piles of dead bodies caused by MY weapons. Can you do that? Point to the piles of bodies caused by 99% of gun owners firearms. Please do that. Or are you only capable of treating strangers like imbeciles? I practice firearms safety. I practice it rigidly. So does any serious gun owner. You can lecture me with your arrogant statistical bulls*** when I hurt someone I love with my firearms. But it won't happen. So get the f*** out of here with your hectoring crap. It's funny. You treat us like absolute idiots and then wonder why we don't wish to negotiate with you. Well, I don't negotiate with urban, elitist, liberal pigs. And that is exactly what you are. Seriously, you couldn't write a better joke. "You treat us like idiots" followed by "You're an urban elitist pig!".
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) It basically was a great move to call TO if SF were to score, not so great if they didn't score. If SF scored at the end and won the game, he would be getting hammered for not calling them. Like I said, I'm glad I'm not paid to make that call. I'll go climb into a volcano for free, but man...picking out what to do in that spot...that's a challenge.
  24. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) There's nothing wrong with his strategy. In fact, there are plenty of coaches who would have thought the same. You burn the timeout there and the 9ers either score before the 2 minute warning, or they're stopped before the 2 minute warning. Either way, you are pretty much guaranteed to at least have 1 2 minute drive to march down the field and do whatever it is you need to do. Of course, they didn't need that strategy because Frisco didn't convert the 2pt conversion. BTW, I'm glad Ray Lewis won on his way out. If nothing else, it makes most of Soxtalk mad. The remarkable thing though is how much that strategy would have backfired if they tried it. If the Ravens had taken a TO there before the 2 minute warning, and everything went the same way otherwise...they'd have handed S.F. the ball back with ~:35 on the clock, instead of :04. Could have literally cost them the game. Guess that's why you pay a coach good money. Glad I didn't have to make that call.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:04 AM) Quick question to all out there. I have a job right now with a 5 minute commute and tons of flexibility. I'm looking at a position that would pay about 50% more, but include a train ride to the city, then the bus. Worth it? This is totally, 100% a personal judgment call about how much the extra time on the commute is worth to you.
