  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) How long is Noah out for? Without even checking, I think the odds are strong hell be called day to day/game time decision.
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 06:09 PM) I think Rios is going to have a good year that's why I think he may very well be worth Olt. As has been said, Olt is not a sure thing. Rios is in fact highly likely to outperform Olt this year. That of course is not the only thing which determines a player's trade vale.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) I thought the assumption was the only way the US would be in a "war" was if Iran actually attacked Israel. If that wasnt the case, my bad, but I thought since Jake's post, people were inferring war with Iran/Israel. An entire party spent their primary campaign demanding war and occupation of Iran immediately.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 05:59 PM) You must have missed the first part of the thread where people were saying that if the US got involved they would leave the US. Yeah, in a conflict in Syria. Which is...not Iran.
  5. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) It's not that crazy. I live in Atlanta and have been to the Dome a few times. I get good reception in there. My buddy has posted pictures to Facebook from the stadium. I understand that there were more journalists and whatnot at that particular game, so they'd be using Wifi but it's definitely possible that he could do it - especially since his pictures were posted when the stadium was essentially empty. The problem is, we've checked the IP Addresses he's logged in with recently and they track back to a Comcast connection out of Illinois. If he was logging in on their wifi, then we ought to log an IP Address from that location, or at least a cell phone, or a hotel, whatever.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) Well if Iran isnt going to do anything, then I see no reason why Israel would do anything. Im pretty sure the US and Israel are happy with the status quo where they are able to do whatever they want. But the entire premise was based on Iran threatening to get involved over Isarel striking Syria. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-575668...ver-air-strike/ Actually, the first thing about Iran that was brought up was by you. It wasn't discussed until you brought it up, without noting any statement from Iran or anything, and that's the first time you added a link. I think confusion is warranted about why you'd randomly say, while discussing Syria, that "even liberals would be ok with decimating Iran", without adding the qualifier of "Iran carrying out this threat".
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 05:45 PM) The entire premise of the argument is that Iran is going to do things to continue to escalate. I guess we could also talk about a different hypothetical where Israel attacks Iran unprovoked and without the US telling them to. But I was sticking with the, US is fully aware of Israel's operations and is giving them the okay. Thus if Iran does anything in response, the US would likely get involved. Escalate does not equal attack. Iran isn't stupid. They know beyond a shadow of a doubt that an actual military strike against Israel ends their regime. And hell, they flat out might not have any capacity to hit Israel if Israel's missile defense system is all its cracked up to be.
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) Rose is coming back from a torn ACL on a pretty normal schedule. 8-12 months, I think. Imagine if was playing already and averaging 28 points a game. Rose tore his ACL in late April. He's been out 9 months so far, probably ~9.5 will be close to his total missed. Peterson tore his ACL at Christmas. His first real game was September 9. He missed ~8.5. And just to note, only topped 100 yards once in his first 6 games.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 04:48 PM) Libya is a far more tricky issue than Iran attacking Israel and the US getting involved. That is a no brainer and I cant believe that people actually think it will be divisive. The US wont make the first move, its just going to keep pressing Iran until it does something. At what point did "Iran attacking Israel" become a part of this discussion? Particularly since most of the discussion, including this strike, involves Israel making the first move. If Iran were to actually strike an Israeli city, then yes of course, go ahead and decimate them, just remember that it'll cost us another $5 trillion to rebuild the country.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) yeah I'm not down with that, I wouldn't imagine that much of the liberal/left would be either. Intervention in cases like Libya, Mali or Syria are somewhat complex and you'll find a wide range of views on the left over the merits, but that's a bit different from direct war with Iran. Hell, my "stay the Hell out of another clusterf***" in Libya position is looking more accurate by the day.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 04:32 PM) Even liberals wont really mind decimating Iran. Really?
  12. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) If Jerry Angelo were the GM, this farce would be closer to a reality. I don't even get this either. When did Angelo do anything like this?
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) He wasn't waived right away after he was DFA'd the day of the trade. They still could have traded him. If the Sox really wanted him, they could have had him, but would have had to give Oakland something they would want other than the waiver money. The waiver period is only a couple of days. They have a week to put him on waivers once he's DFA'd if he hasn't been released or traded or returned to the 40 man. The A's had no rights to him. Their 40 man roster is at 40 counting Jaso. In order to complete that trade, they had to remove all of their rights to Kottaras.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) He was DFA'd which took him off the roster and gave Oakland 10 days to decide what to do with him. He was claimed 8 or 9 days after he was DFA'd, so he wasn't waived until about a week after the trade. That's not how it works. If he's put on waivers, all 30 teams have the right to claim him. The highest priority team to claim him wins the claim. The fact that it was nearly 10 days means most likely that they awarded the claim win to the highest priority team at the end of the waiting period.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) If they really wanted him, they might have been able to trade for him. I read defensively he was similar to the 45 year old Carlton Fisk. Normally, teams want a defensive guy as the back up. Maybe they just didn't want him. I do think back up catcher will be a bigger role than it's been for a while. Maybe one of these guys will surprise. More likely is the A's jumped at the Jaso deal and decided they weren't going to tell all 30 teams he was available before putting him on waivers. Otherwise, they'd have been holding up that 3-way deal, which could of course have endangered it.
  16. Thibs named eastern conference coach of the month for Jan. No, I didn't know that award existed either.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 03:33 PM) Feel better though, Obama ended his oh-so-successful jobs commission. They must have no longer needed it. After all, he proposed a major jobs bill 18 months ago and Congress decided it didn't need to happen, so they must all have agreed that the job market is fine.
  18. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 03:31 PM) Agreed. Could've had Kottaras, Olivo, Shoppach...but, nope, they signed with other teams. The White Sox could not have had Kottaras. He was claimed on waivers by a team with a worse record than the White Sox who therefore had priority. It was fully impossible for the White Sox to get him. For all we know, they may have put a claim in on him.
  19. Known schizophrenic described as "Obviously" mentally ill by the police bought guns at Walmart. Few weeks later, shot and killed his mother, dismembered her, killed a cat, wound up in an 11 hour standoff with police before giving up.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Huh. That's surprising. Agreed. Until I hear something else, I'll run with the old gift horse mouth looking quote.
  21. Scott Brown will not run for John Kerry's Senate Seat. Woo.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) It would be like an employee of a Miami franchise making comments to upset the Cuban population. Who would do such a thing?
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) There is an app? Also, I happened to notice, there is a longer (2 minute) preview on iTunes for that now. Did you see it already? I assume so, just checking. The App came out yesterday. The 2 minute trailer came out the day after the release of the Hobbit.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) At the end of the day, not every NFL player is going to be smart, and that guy just happened to be an idiot with a microphone shoved in his face. I kinda get that happening the first time, with a 24 year old football player, I can understand that. These dudes were in an anti-gay-bullying video and didn't even seem to know it/care. I probably complimented them on it. I complimented the Cubs when they did one of those. That's piling up on the idiocy.
