  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) Not sure if ND is lying. Even deadspin partially concludes that Te'o' may have been a victim: If that's the case, then multiple quotes that Deadspin produced from press reports involved Te'o lying to the press about their having met, for whatever reason.
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) It looks like they are going to try to say that some random girl told Teo she was kekua and dated him, and then faked her own death Then unless the person Te'o supposedly met is a dead-ringer for the person in those photos, wouldn't someone have figured out something when the evening news started showing photos of a different person than the one he purportedly met? Unless that person whose photos were being used...was lying to deadspin.
  3. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) http://notredame.247sports.com/Board/87/No...oversy-15894155 So basically, ND has confirmed that the person didn't actually exist.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 03:58 PM) Or you just draft a quality TE because there should be a bunch in this draft. In that case, it would seem sensible to do that and give Rod a shot as well, since the team already has his rights and there's room for more than 1 TE on a roster. Of course, also worth noting that the Bears #1 and possibly #2 picks may be spoken for on other positions (OL, LB) and IIRC they're missing a 3rd.
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) What is the poverty line at? I had heard that they made the amount you need to make to be over the line higher, but I can't find verification of that. Like it went from $10k to $12k or something like that. one person is $11,300, family of four is $22,133.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) Why not just get an actual TE that is good? Rodriguez might be able to be that...but the real answer is "Because you get to sign 2 out of '1 offensive lineman, Henry Melton, and a quality starting veteran TE'".
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) Well, how many of those did Hitler have? Even hitler didn't do something as dastardly as having kids.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) You were able to listen to all of that without losing massive amounts of blood through your ears? Closed captioning.
  9. "Nominate an ATF Director"? Why did that wait?
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) So after 22 years of having a gym membership I'm thinking of finally getting rid of it since I rarely have time to go. Started looking into some home exercise solutions as an alternative and have very limited space to work with. So far I'm thinking of getting a set of the bowflex all-in-one dumbell sets, an adjustable/portable bench, and a treadmill. Is there a pullup/dip combo bar available out there? What else am I missing? At this age, I just like to stay toned. Does that "Perfect pullup" thing do dips?
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 11:00 AM) Just yesterday Balta wanted someone who posted a youtube video arrested for terrorism. I could make an easy argument that free speech rights need to be curtailed and people arrested in order to prevent .0000001% of crime just like this gun restriction crap. And we should ignore "public desire" as a justification for changing constitutional rights. That's when we get dumb laws like the alien and sedition acts or prohibition. Edit: well, i dunno that that the alien and sedition acts were from public desire, but still. we get a lot of dumb laws or proposed laws based on public desire. Public desire is also what gave us constitutional amendments like women's suffrage, lowering the voting age to 18, etc.
  12. Broussard was on ESPN while I was at the Gym, said that Rose is still working on cutting, said the AS break is his guess still, added that he's also heard Rose has added 10 lbs of muscle that he hopes will help him take the pounding of the NBA better and that he spent a ton of time working on his jump shot since that was sort of all he could do basketball wise.
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) Trading Paulie now for a decent return would make a 2014 youth movement more palpable. There are a few teams that could use his bat and offer back something that could be significant down the road. Take a second and think about how limited the number of teams he fits with are. Konerko is under contract for 1 year, so the team trading for him needs to be ready to compete this year. Konerko is well paid, >$10 million, so the team needs to have money to spend. The team needs to have a hole at 1b, and it helps if the team also can move Konerko to DH for part of the time, as that helps keep him healthy. How many teams are left that this fits? Now throw in the fact that Konerko's a 10/5 player and thus has a full No Trade Clause if he wants to exercise it. Getting a significant offer for a guy usually means that you have multiple teams in the running for him who will drive the price up. I have trouble thinking of any teams that fit all of those.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) The most talented O-line coach in history couldn't make some of the players on the Bears better. Do we seriously know that? They literally haven't even tried putting those guys in a position to succeed. They kept saying they would and then put them in a position to fail. If you ask Derrick Rose to guard Dwight Howard for 30 games, you're going to come out of it thinking that the most talented coach in the world couldn't make Rose into an effective player. Well of course, you've put him in a position where he's guaranteed to fail!
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 07:38 AM) Is there any precedent for a CFL coach getting an NFL HC job? QUOTE (lord chas @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 07:52 AM) Bud Grant QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 07:53 AM) And Marv Levy. Nothing recent though QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) Has a head coach ever been hired from the CFL?
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:19 AM) Thats what I said in the followup post, TE and OL are much more pressing needs. Of course that WR group would be great, but Wallace is going to be an in-demand FA and I dont want the Bears jumping to the top of the bidding before they address other needs. There are some teams with serious room to use on a guy like that as well. IIRC, the Dolphins have something like $50 million to play with if they let everyone go.
  17. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) Yep. Guy has a great track record of developing OLinemen and putting points on the board. Not just for the record, but for the scheme. I've been saying this for years. When you watch the Saints play a game against a tough pass rusher, there is never a snap where a lineman is set up one on one against that rusher. Every pass play, a TE or a RB takes a chip at that rusher, or he gets double-teamed, or the play rolls away from him, etc. And then they use the running game, draws, and screens, around that guy to get him off balance. They identify threats on the D-Line and focus attention on them. It's literally the exact opposite of what the Bears did. Game 2 of the year, despite all their talk about how they were going to change systems and give the O-line more help, there you had J'Marcus Webb lined up one on one against Clay Matthews, once again, with no help. No screens, no rollouts, it was just assumed Webb would block him. Even if Webb did a good job with that, on 40-50 dropbacks, if Matthews got through 10% of the time, he'd have hit Cutler 5 times. That's making a serious impact if a couple of those are sacks.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) If Trestman lets Hester play a lot of WR, then he deserves to be fired immediately. (He could always be the guy who somehow gets through to him? Never guaranteed. But I'd still expect him to be cut).
  19. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:04 AM) Eh, other than OL and TE what other needs does this team have? The defense is pretty good across all levels, definitely NFL average or better. The RB's are solid, the QB is set. I'm really not opposed to going after a big name WR as long as there is a plan behind it to fix the OL. A Marshall-Wallace-Jeffery-Bennett WR group with a competent TE and Matt Forte could be really, really dangerous. They currently need help at DT since Melton isn't under contract, and they need help at LB since Urlacher isn't under contract. With supposedly under $20 million in cap space to play with, $5 million going to draft holds...signing a $10 million a year + WR leaves the Bears literally nothing other than the draft to fill those other spots and, as far as I can tell, guarantees Melton is gone.
  20. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) AdamSchefter: Former Saints interim head coach Aaron Kromer has accepted the Offensive coordinator and offensive line coaching job with the Chicago Bears. I adore this hire immediately.
  21. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 04:54 AM) This is horses***. "Somelike the VT shooter", and who the hell is that? You want the government investigating all Americans just to make sure they are OK to own a gun? f*** you and your police state. They do it every time you apply to drive. And probably...every time you send an email.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) He is, whether you like it or not. Hopefully he is dealt, but still, Bennett was just given new paper and you have Alshon lining up too. No need to go out and get a big FA WR over more pressing needs I think he's more likely to be outright cut. Saves a little bit against the cap at this point, IIRC.
  23. QUOTE (bhawk99 @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Doing nothing to improve the current roster does not give the impression that the Sox are serious about competing with Detroit. Unmotivated fans means less tickets sold which means no money for future moves. Give us a real reason to believe we can beat the Tigers and we will spend our money on this years team. I keep reading these posts and thinking about how they could have been written about the A's after they lost Giambi and Damon, or the Cardinals after they lost Pujols.
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 16, 2013 -> 12:16 AM) So, for some reason the Bobcats are trying to trade their pick. They've had discussion with the Bulls because they REALLY want their pick back. Biyombo has come up in trade talks. So... Bobcats Pick + 2013 Bulls Pick + Rip for 2013 Bobcats Pick + Biyombo 2013-2014 Rose/Hinrich/Teague McLemore/Hinrich Deng/Butler Boozer/Gibson Noah/Biyombo I'd be ecstatic with that. Doesn't work Salary-wise, the Bulls are sending out $5 million and taking back $3 million. That'd work if Charlotte had $2 million in cap space, which they don't. Need to attach another $500k+ coming back to the bulls to match.
  25. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 11:15 PM) This is a really strange week. I was pretty convinced that Wisconsin was going to lose to Illinois and Indiana. As an Indiana fan, I was confident in Indiana being ready to disappoint me, as most of my sports teams do . That 2nd half was the best defense I've seen Indiana play in a decade. Too bad they couldn't figure out how to put together a consistent offensive possession or control the mistakes at the end.
