  1. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) Except he's facing consequences... And, have we settled the legality of what he said? Is it really against the law to be hyperbolic? Is it against the law to make terrorist threats?
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) of course it is. have stringent weapon registration and no conceal weapons permits solves all crime problems. just ask the Democrat party. So TN solved the problem perfectly according to Democrat philosophy. Tennessee has licensing of weapon ownership? This is news to me.
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) don't worry. the GOP will increase the debt ceiling. they don't care about deficits, but they like to put on a show for their constituents. i'm sure a deal is already in the bag, the GOP just needs to wait to go along with it at the last minute so they can say 'look, we took it to the brink and tried our best'. The GOP is just a bunch of wimps who will cave-in on their supposed ideals at the drop of a hat. With this one they should cave. They can still have a fight over the budget in a couple months with a government shutdown on the clock, without threatening another 2008 style collapse as a result.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) Same. I know this is a bad practice, too...but I'd rather be over than under and owe...the goal is to not be TOO far over, though. When interest rates are this low, it's not really going to make a big difference.
  5. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) Looks like Santiago will be playing in the WBC I have no problem with that, good chance for him to get extra innings.
  6. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) The issue is publicly insulting our entire justice and legislative system on national TV, not the actual crime that Gregory committed. And I think going on youtube and threatening to kill people does the exact same thing.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 09:18 AM) Well are we talking about your preferred response or what's actually possible legally? Considering we're discussing the possibility of actually non-insane gun legislation being proposed and prosecutors unable (or unwilling) to take the kinds of actions that should be appropriate responses...I think this is a quality example to bring up of how things should change. We talk about David Gregory not being prosecuted...and I'll grant, there should have been something done against him and the network for violating local law...but compare the two situations. A guy goes on the Youtubes and says he's going to start killing people, versus a guy who shows off a high capacity magazine illegal in that city. The guy who went on the Youtubes and threatened the country if he doesn't get his way...can go off and buy a dozen of those magazines and thousands of rounds of ammunition, today if he wanted to, and he's not breaking the law until he loads the gun right before he carries out his threat.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) Advocating violence isn't illegal unless it's likely to cause imminent violence as in "go kill this man right now." I think that can be extended to saying what your own actions might be. I don't know what else you think should be done to him. I think threatening to start killing people fits under my list of "reasons why a person should lose their right to own guns".
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) Is what he said in any way illegal though? If, hypothetically, a person who engaged in a mass shooting had made a series of youtube videos declaring how he was going to start "killing people", while simultaneously having an arsenal of weapons available to him (this lunatic runs some sort of survival training academy), would people look back and say "Well, they took away his concealed carry permit, that's the appropriate response"?
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 08:50 AM) If you think the death panels hysteria was bad, I can only imagine what would happen if they tried to confiscate anything from anyone. Since it's kinda on subject of "law enforcement looking the other way"...we already have a lunatic in Tennessee going on Youtube and saying that if the government tries to pass any sort of gun control, he's going to have to start "Killing people". In response, the state of Tennessee came down hard on him...by temporarily taking away his concealed carry permit.
  11. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) Also people forget that for the first half of 05 Shingo was our closer. Shingo had lost the closer's position by May. Hermanson was the closer for the majority of the season, and he was incredible until his back went out.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) The entire pitching staff's ERA was 3.61. Since 1972, they have only matched that ERA twice. (3.47 in '81 & 3.61 in '90). That was also right during the steroid era, in a home run hittinig ballpark. Their team ERA+ was 125. For comparison, Mark Buehrle's career ERA+ is 119. Think about that. As a whole, the 2005 starting rotation pitched "Better than Mark Buehrle in a normal year". The best ERA+ in the league last year was Tampa, at 120. That's the best ERA+ in baseball since 2003. It's been 9 season since any team put together that good of a pitching campaign. The last team that was better? The 2003 Dodgers...with their part human, part testosterone injection closer. I'm finding it amazing looking at how good that pitching staff really was compared to the rest of the league for the last decade.
  13. That TD kept Houston in the game, they just need to be down 7 at the half now
  14. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 05:42 PM) I wrote as good if not better. They just will. That 2005 rotation was incredible. There is just no way these guys are going to pull that off.
  15. If Houston doesn't get 7 here this game might be about done.
  16. Houston needs to figure out how to move the ball now.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 05:19 PM) First of all, I have no problem enforcing the laws on David Gregory. If I was the Police Chief, I'd do it. Anyways, my point is not the sum of all his actions is greater than his illegal act (I like to think of this as the Michael Jackson Defense). My point is that the illegal act itself did more good than harm. Regardless, though I think David Gregory used discretion, I'm okay with prosecuting him anyway since not everyone knows better than the law. I'm also interested in what David did with those items -- I hope they were melted down. I think having them melted down would be destroying evidence
  18. The pitching will not be better than 05. They just won't.
  19. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) If the Falcons can't stop Wilson, how are they going to stop Kaep Wilson didn't really do a lot of damage with his legs, he moved the ball on 15-20 yard passes hitting the weakness in the cover-2.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) That was funny watching him deny calling TO but replay shows he did. What an ass I bet he said "I'm not calling time out".
  21. QUOTE (Brian26 @ Jan 13, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) I'm not disagreeing with you, but Glavine's career happened to coincide with an Atlanta Braves' run where they were the best team in baseball cumulatively over a 12-year period. If Glavine isn't pitching on the Braves for those years, he has many fewer wins and probably never would have reached 300. Was that Braves run because they had an offense carrying then or because they had a pitching staff carrying them?
  22. Atlanta really doesn't like playoff games, do they?
