QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) They have two really good cover corners and a lot of pieces capable of fitting into a 3-4 scheme. They are ditching all of that for a scheme/zone defense where you can draft corners in the 2nd and 3rd round (or later) who are capable of being studs which means that they traded up for Claiborne last year unnecessarily. What really needs to happen in Dallas is for Jerry Jones to relinquish his power. He just doesn't seem to know WTF he is doing anymore I'm not so sure that Jerry is the problem... Don't people, including people here, look at the Cowboys roster every year and think...that is a very talented team that can compete with the NFC East? I certainly do. I haven't felt like a lack of talent was their problem in a long time.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 01:13 PM) I've had DirecTv for over a decade and have never felt like they were trying to screw me over somehow. They're customer service is outstanding and they go out of their way to alleviate any issues you may have. I can't stand their automated call system. It's literally the worst one I've ever dealt with. It can't understand a word I say.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) Another huge win for California gun laws! Cant blame this one on Indiana being a next-door neighbor. California has also cut more than $800 million out of its mental health services budgets since the economic collapse, in no small part to avoid significant tax increases.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jan 11, 2013 -> 04:32 AM) It's ironic. Most of the time Uribe was with the Sox, it seemed like most of Soxtalk would rather castrate him than have him on the roster. Some of this is the change in the structure of the league since 2007. In 2007, a guy hitting in the low .200's with 20 HR and good defense was a major liability. Offense has stepped back so much since then that the same production has gone from being a serious weakness in the lineup to a tolerable guy.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) That's a great way to sum up Chairman Reinsdorf's tenure. He has been a Point A to Point B owner and has been richly rewarded for it. Buying the team for $20M, it's worth $600M conservatively. After 30 years, a change would be best for the franchise, imo. Watch, I can do the exact same thing. Change would not be best for the franchise. See, there, I made an argument as detailed and convincing as yours.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) I take it you are happy with ownership. I just did some quick math. Since Jerry Reinsdorf took over the franchise, an average franchise would have had 6 playoff appearances, based on the number of playoff spots available and the number of teams in the league. The White Sox have had 5 (and would have had 6 had JR not been a key player in the strike). That's assuming playoff appearances are randomly distributed. If you include the Yankees soaking up 20 of them by outspending every other team in the world, the Sox ownership would actually be ahead of the game. Basically, they've taken a franchise that had 2 playoff appearances in 60+ years and made them into an average franchise. Given their position and the fact that they have a 2nd team to compete with, making them a middle-market franchise...they've done a solid job. THe negatives you can count against them are...sabotaging 1994, the ballpark construction, and the sacrificing of fan development by going onto Cable in the 1980's (in addition to perhaps Hawk's time as GM). But the results on the field say that they've significantly improved the team's performance and taken them up to being an average franchise from a moribund state.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) Dodgers were bankrupt too, maybe that's the way to go. They have 6 playoff appearances in their last 20+ years and 0 world series appearances, let alone wins, during that era. You'd be making the same case if you were a dodger fan. And it's also worked great for turning the Cubs into a winner.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) That's all well and good, but it's not enough. It's weird how Sox fans seem conditioned to accept the current state of the franchise. After 30 years, have to wonder when Chairman Reinsdorf sells. Maybe when the Comcast deal ends (is it 2019?). Hopefully sooner. The Comcast deal ends in 2019. However, both the Cubs and Sox I believe, are part owners of the Comcast network, so the Sox ownership group does see some additional cash when the ratings improve.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) Rangers and Giants haven't had 30 years of sustained success. They have had as much success over the last 30 years as the White Sox. Giants have never had back to back post seasons. Rangers have never won a World Series, plus they didn't make a post season until 1996. And, oh yeah...the Rangers also were in bankruptcy 5 years ago. Do white sox fans deserve a franchise in bankruptcy?

QUOTE (PtownSoxfan @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) With the word being he only wants to play for a contender im not sure why HE would seriously consider us or the red sox right now. And i agree with pretty much everyone else on this one. No way to Javi. I dont care what he has left, he was one of THE most frustrating pitchers to watch in the last decade. All the talk and flashes of talent dont make up for 5 innings of dominant baseball, followed immediately by a complete breakdown n putting the team in a hole. Thats not an innings eater to me, its an innings waster. Good luck in DC there "big game". Um, the White Sox spent 2/3 of last season in first place. People here may not want to admit it, but they're a contender until they're out of the race.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 11:11 AM) Vazquez has had a few good seasons in the NL (one of them real good), Floyd's on-the-surface numbers haven't really looked good since 2008. But Javy's been out of baseball for a whole year, not to mention he's on the wrong side of 35. If they think Santiago, Axelrod, Castro, Rienzo, or anyone else from the group that should start at Charlotte this year will be ready to be contributors at some point during the year, trading Floyd for nothing saves a good chunk of money and Vazquez could cover a month or two, even with an ERA in the 6's, to give them a little more time and save some innings on pitcher X's arm. They've been in the boat of needing to get something useful back if they traded Floyd because of how their rotation stacks up. Signing a guy like Vazquez could be the insurance that lets them dump Floyd for nothing but cash.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 10:22 AM) I think it depends on how quickly the OFs reach Chicago. If they stagnate in their development, Dayan probably stays in LF with Dunn playing first. If they keep developing quickly enough, Viciedo moves to 1b in 2014 and one of the kids moves into the OF. From my impression, I think Mitchell falls in the same boat as Jordan Danks, at the least needing a serious swing and approach overhaul to become a major league regular. If I'm right in that...then it might be 2 years before anyone is pushing that position. I think Konerko gets a 1 year deal for 2014.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 11:39 PM) I say that pretty much daily at my job. Me too...today was just exceptional. Once in a couple years awful. All their fault too.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) Hamilton's portion of any rotation just looks horrendous. He needs to be bought out. Marco and Nasty Nate are both providing really nice pop. The offense just flows and is more confident when Marco is out there vs. Rip. I do not find it coincidence that the team is playing with a fire up their ass since Rose started practicing and traveling with them. They've been a blast to watch. Does last night mean he had a setback?

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 07:58 AM) Personally, and maybe it's more sentiment than smarts, I'd much prefer that Dunn have a good year so that they can deal him. I'd like to have Pauly around as long as he can still swing the bat as our dh and I think that he would be a great example for the younger players. We'd have to find left handed power somewhere but while I don't hate him, I'd rather have a better all around hitter than Dunn. Don't forget how costly it is to give up your number 1 draft pick in signing te hypothetical better than Dunn player.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) I think that's a reasonable look at what the plan going forward may be. The key is having Sale, Danks, Quintana, and Santiago show they can make 4/5th's of a reliable rotation. After that use Peavy, Rios, Floyd, and Crain in trade to fortify the rest of the team. 1/2 the people you want to trade to fortify the team will be free agents next offseason anyway.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) You can wish for it all you want. It doesn't mean it is realistic or the smartest move. Again, I am still waiting for some proof that the rebuild theory actually works. The Rangers sorta made it work. The Giants got a couple high picks after tetrahydrogestrinone retires that became Cain and Lincecum. The Marlins made it work well in 97 and got back over .500 with their 2003 rebuild.

2013 HOF ballot out, includes Sosa, Clemens, Bonds
Balta1701 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) These percentages tell me that Bonds and Clemens get in eventually. Personally, this is more of an indictment on Sammy Sosa. 12.5% for a guy who never test positive and never admitted to it? Won an MVP, multiple All-Star appearances, 600+ home runs, only guy to hit 60+ homers in 3 seasons. There are about 1 million red flags, and apparently the BBWAA has taken those quite seriously and they have essentially stated that, without steroids, Sosa is nowhere near a Hall of Famer. Sosa was reported to have tested positive in the 2003 testing round. -
Just to sum up my day, I'd like to say...f*** you Microsoft.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) Didn't Goodell punish them last year thus leaving them like $15M over the cap? I thought it was them and Dallas. That was because they tried to game the system by taking advantage of the uncapped year.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) he's really gone off the deep-end, hasn't he? No more than anyone else in the strongly-pro-gun side.
